Tip on your guys slow reaction at launch... Don't leave when the tree hits green, "leave" when the tree hits the second yellow. By the time you react to this, it'll have already hit green. I learned this from my high school auto shop teacher, veteran drag racer who had 426 max wedge in a 1966 Plymouth he drag raced. I've never jumped the tree using this technique.
and even there they get beat up by Mustangs and f150s all day at the track. Mustang gt can run 11s and 12s stock and down into the 10s with just tires and suspension. Single cab short bed coyote f150s can run 12s and creep into the 11s with simple weight reductuin like hitch spare tire removal etc with just a e85 tune. Add boost and they can run 7s and 8s on stock bottom end and for vehicles and Mods cost you less than a hellcat ir trx . Hellcats and demons strughle to get 8s with completely built motors Gm turbo 400s and enough carbon fiber to buy a house. Basically looking at just the chassis being the only thing left from factory to get the dodge tank cars into 8s
@@carculturenation2166 Yeah I was thinking the same. Believe it or not I can beat the TRX in a race with my little 4.6 v8 Mustang GT with bolt ons and 4.10 racing gears, despite making less than half the horsepower.

@@pricedisland Density altitude affects HP. The higher the density altitude, the less power and engine can make. Temperature, humidity, altitude, all are factors.
Given the altitude and air temp affecting peak power and their less than perfect drag race driving, I think it is a pretty solid test. As at 5,800 feet both engines are down 16-17% of their peak horse power. So the Redeye is down by 135hp if I mathed right, by all means correct me if I am wrong. And personally I would prefer races done at a track with timing equipment. Because numbers are nice and safety is even better. But it would be nice to see the TRX out in the dirt, doing off road fun stuff.
Gotta be novice, learning, or just the sheer power. I ran a 12.3@116 1.8 60ft front at 35lbs rear at 25lbs in a 2019 Camaro 2SS stock on a hot day. Great video.
On the second race, Andre red-lighted and Nathan had the better reaction time. If you didn't know: "You want your RT to be at or as close to .500 as possible. . If you react faster than that, you've just red lighted." Good video guys! :D
Depends on the type of tree. Sometimes perfect is .000, which I believe is the case with this timing system they just both have really horrible lights.
Great race! Over the last two weeks, 3 times I've seen a white F350 towing a Hennessey Mammoth 1000 TRX. Heading north on I-25 towards CO. 1000HP/960TQ! You guys need to get a hold of one of these trucks!
the ram trx and the dogde durango are living proof that if dodge implemented all-wheel drive in the charger and challenger (at least as an option) they would be beasts of the circuit and 1/4 mile
Is there some limit to the amount of time you can hold on the launch control? Because you could just hold it after you line up until the tree hits green like any other custom drag car.
no...its one of the easiest systems out there and I have no idea why they didnt use something clearly better than either of them at launching. On my hellcat you tap the lauch control button, hold down the brake pedal and then stab the throttle wide open. As soon as you want to launch (at some point in the future) you just pull your foot off the brake pedal and you're gone.
Well at sea level Motortrend did 10.88 on street tires so the Redeye has plenty of traction on the dragstrip. The regular Hellcat is harder at 275 tires vs 305.
More horsepower, lower center of gravity, wider tires, less weight and more aerodynamic. The charger has a quite a bit of an advantage. If the TRX gets a car and a half the charger will still probably run it down.
Find it fascinating how much elevation has to do with drag racing! Trx hit 13.7 @100mph Buddies 2018 supercrew 10speed hit 14.4 @98mph out here in Ontario
Somethings off with this... summer night in my widebody 392(stock) street tires was a 12 flat with no burnout. That things pushing 300hp more and is on the strip running 13s?
Consider me skeptical. A V6 Mustang was doing a 13.7 1/4 in 2011. How do you even make a 700hp AWD vehicle that "slow"? Considering they couldn't get a 760hp GT500 to beat it....something don't add up.
Altitude. That track is over 5000 feet above sea level. Constant-Displacement-style superchargers don't really compensate much (if at all) for the thinner air in altitude unlike turbochargers (They often can keep spooling until the target PSI is reached at which point the blowoff valve will open to prevent overboost. Superchargers, being tied to engine RPM, can't do that). The GT500 couldn't win because their regular testing facility is a shorter straight than a drag strip (The truck excells at launches and short distance races but becomes aerodynamic and weight burdened beyond highway speeds as evident in the trap speeds even magazines get) and doesn't have a prepped surface for the Shelby to properly grip on. Finally, a bone stock 2011 V6 Mustang (stock ones only hit around 14.0) would probably hit high 14s at that altitude as it would lose 50hp.
@@jldude84 I'm aware of the IMI motorsports test video. As I explained in my reply, that straight used in the video is not a full 1/4 mile long, it is much shorter especially when factoring the runoff distance they need to give themselves for braking. The distance is more like a street light to street light city race. The asphalt at IMI is also not prepped with a traction compound like you would find at a proper drag strip. The short distance and unprepped surface give a big advantage to the TRX because it can launch hard with AWD. But, on a LONGER race, it slows down dramatically. Just look at the trap speeds on the time slips in this video. It's because of aero and weight. The elevation explanation I gave is to explain why the 1/4 mile times Nate got with the truck were so low compared to say, a bolt-on modded V6 mustang at sea level.
Sick video, but all the numbers are against the trx. I know its because the charger redeye is new so you guys had it, but if possible I would like to see this rerun with a standard hellcat charger.
