This is a great collection. My favorites are Autopsy room four, the man in the black suit, riding the Bullet, and 1408, but I like them all. When I first bought this collection, when I moved I lost the book, and I could swear it only had 7 short stories. I could be wrong. I recently purchased the book again, this time hardback. The stories are so interesting. I can't stop reading!
I know the original audio books for this were shorter - there were two or three of them. Pretty sure the book has always been 14, as King tells the story in the intro about using a suit from a deck of cards (plus the joker) to decide on the running order
Ever since I watched your Gwendy's Final Task review, I've binge-watched your whole video catalogue and thoroughly enjoyed it! Can't wait for you to talk about the three last Dark Tower books and the Bill Hodges trilogy (that I am yet to read). Best of luck moving forward and I'll be watching!
story, when I was younger and living with my parents we had a nasty storm come through and knock out the power. My mother sent me to the local media store (Media Play) to get a couple of audio books and one of them I got was Blood and Smoke on CD (we had a portable cd boombox that went through batteries like I go through reese pieces.) I got one from my father's favorite as well Louis L'more. ANYWAYS, 1408 scared me so badly I couldn't sleep until the power came back on 3 days later... still haunts me.
great video & review, thank you!! decided to read this today, can’t wait to begin! once i get to a re-read i’ll be studying it for my own short story writing endeavors! ⭐️🖊️
Absolutely agree that this is an underappreciated one. So much goodness between the covers! That's a good top 10 list -- personally I'd put "The Man in the Black Suit" way at the top of my own. Though I don't think "Road Virus Heads North" would have made my top 10, and I'd have included "The Death of Jack Hamilton" somewhere in mine. Great video -- thanks!
I read it during a not so good time in life but what I remember the most is The Little Sisters of Eluria and the the title story Everything's Eventual. I love watching 1408 because John Cusack was the perfect choice.
@@troyjackson836 yeah, it's definitely a solid idea. Perhaps, as well as there being other worlds than these, there are other paintings than these?? ;-)
every single, i say every single time i hear anyone even mention all that you love will be carried away i go googly. it is poignant, sad, hopeful, depressing, a cornucopia of emotions and ive had my edge of the field moment before. great video, but im blanking on the 2nd story with Tower roots, Dinky and .......?
I mean, without dropping too many spoilers where people might not want to see them...yep, Dinky is the one you ant to watch out for as Roland gets closer to the Tower
I still need to read that one!!! I'm most excited for 1408, not sure why it just seems like it will really appeal to me, and I'm excited to see the film as well because John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson are both excellent actors. Also, I haven't read Cell, but I picked up the bluray for $5.98 at JB Hi Fi the other day because I was like 'ooh more Cusack and Jackson in another King movie, I'd may as well pick it up because I'm sure that will be decent!'. Then I decided to look up the opening scene because I want to read the book first, but I wanted a little taste to see whether the movie looked promising. To put it lightly I'll never get that $5.98 back....
@@DaveReadsKing Oh yeah, I'll have to be careful to make sure the streaming services have the best ending out of the three. And actually, I've ordered the book of Cell so we'll see how we go there... And now that I've thought it over, maybe the movie will be one of those 'so bad it's good' movies like The Happening. Maybe I'll get a kick out of it? I'm just keeping my hopes up.
@@DaveReadsKing UPDATE: I've now read Cell and I can safely say that I surprisingly loved it! It slowed down for a bit towards the 3/4 mark but it soon picked back up, and what's even more surprising is that I loved the ending! I thought it was well done. I also watched the movie, and lets say I just had a blast because of how bad it is. Watching John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson getting drunk with an almost underaged girl is something you'll never experience anywhere else. The ending of the movie though... holy shit I can't tell if it was genius or the worst thing in the world. It made my jaw drop and then I just burst into laughter hahah! The effects were so horrible and the way it is literally three endings thrown in and they're up to interpretation, like a 'choose your own adventure' story holy shit thats amazingly awful!! Also fun fact, Stephen King wrote the movie ending himself after so many people complained about the book ending, I think it was a little scheme to troll everyone that complained about the book ending. Also having the trolololo song in the movie gives my theory a bit of potential hahahaahah. Sorry for rambling but that book and movie, even if you don't like them, certainly have a lot to talk about

1408 is beyond incredible you must watch it!
It's on my list for sure!
The movie is superior IMO, and features a great twist that the story doesn't have.
100% agree with your top 2 out of this one! Probably 2 of my favorite of King's short stories.
Nice! This whole book is pretty great IMO

I agree. Incredible collection.
For sure! So underrated!
I'm re-reading this book right now! It really hits different than it did when it first came out. There's some really beautiful writing in here.
Totally - I think it's a pretty underrated and overlooked collection!
Honestly this short story collection is one of his best imo

Fair enough! Jack hamilton didn't do much for me, although it was cool to see him do a different style
I forgot about Riding the Bullet. Really hit some emotions.
Yes - that felt like a lot of trauma and guilt being processed

Does the painting have somn to do with Rose Madder I wonder?
Interesting idea! My guess would be not directly, but maybe they're cousins of some sort?

@@DaveReadsKing oh my, i feel so dumb now
@@McGrizzle75 ah, no need for that! There are so many short stories by King - difficult to keep track of them all!
Finished this in 2021, although I can't really remember anything standing out it was good, not great. I'm on Nightmares and Dreamscapes now, Cheers 🍻
Enjoy N&D - I think Everything's Eventual is far the stronger of the two, but that's just me :-) N&D has some fun stuff in it!
I have watched the movie adaptations of riding the bullet and 1408
Cool! I still need to see 1408

I think 1408 started life as a example of how to edit a story in Kings on writing, king said that the story seduced him so he continued it ,
You're absolutely right - he includes a draft of it in On Writing with all his annotations and editing notes, doesn't he?
The Road Virus was my least favorite. Too silly. I agree with all your other rankings.
