This is maybe my favorite short story collection by King. I started reading it during the start of the pandemic and it fit like a glove. It became my " chicken noodle soup for the end times" , if ya will. "Premium Harmony" was one of my favorites, " UR" being the best in the book. Cheers 🍻
Made it to “the June” as y’all say. Good so far. Keep on doing what you do homie. Your content got me started and near 40 books in. Honestly it was the guide to the dark tower that got me. You rock.
The Little Green God of Agony was fantastic! It made me want more, but the fact that there wasn’t any more was ok - it pulls you in and it ratchets up the drama and then SLAM it’s over. Drunken Fireworks was also hilarious - one of the best examples of King humor I’ve read yet.
I would say that there are 8 or 9 really really strong stories here. Out of those, there are 3 that didn't make your top ten. Summer Thunder - a short story, but I loved the melancholy and it sticks with me; Afterlife - another slight story that I keep thinking about; Blockade Billy - a great story, even if you know nothing about baseball (like myself). Like you my favorite is probably Under the Weather (or That Bus is Another World) - both fantastic, skillful, story telling. There are some misses in the group, but I would say it pips Skeleton Crew as my favourite collection.
Yep, I agree the hit rate is really high in this one, but it gets really overlooked because it's a recent one. I would definitely say it's more consistent than Skeleton Crew, although my heart says the highs in SC are just about better than the best bits here. But, hey, they're *both* excellent!
I loved this. There were some misses in there for me but the good ones were so worth it! I haven't read it since it was released in hardback so I may go back and read it when I've finished Billy Summers 🥰 Also, I like what I can see of your interior design. The wallpaper is like someone took the Shining carpet and made it ✨fashion✨! It's so cool 🥰
Thank you - that excellent design choice was all my wife's doing. Sadly, we've recently moved house so new videos won't have that wallpaper...at least, not until we decorate ;-)
Muchas gracias! (This is, basically, the full extent of my Spanish other than saying 'mas aqua caliente por favor', which is not really relevant here 🙂)
@@DaveReadsKing jajajaja at least you know some spanish, Dave! First step to learn a pretty useful and beautiful language 💪🏽😉 By the way, i would be thankful if you could help me with a SK reading doubt: About Castle Rock, i heard the books about this town must be read in a certain order. Could you give some suggestions, please? Thanks in advace, and keep on vanguard!
@@1367-i5r Thanks! So, Castle Rock...it's best to read them in publication order, and then you won't have anything spoiled. That means The Dead Zone, Cujo, The Dark Half, The Sun Dog, then Needful Things. The Gwendy's trilogy and Elevation are also Castle Rock stories, and there are a few short stories set there too
@@DaveReadsKing thank you, Dave! I read about 15 books from SK, but never got into Castle Rock universe nor Dark Tower. And i'm in doubt what to read before each other. Anyway, i'll read Castle Rock novels in the order you suggested.
Didn't you like A DEATH? It is my favorite in this collection and one of my favorites of all 113 collected. It was also in BEST AMERICAN SHORT STORIES OF 2015 (or 2016?) I've read all 113 in the 6 collections. My top 5 in order: (all graded 10/10). - A Death - Bad Little Kid - Ur (I've always pronounced it like in ThURsday, not being a native speaker) - Drunken Fireworks - Summer Thunder I don't like Obits, Blockade Billy or the poems. ASIDE: The hardcover UK edition of Fairy Tale is playing hard to catch. Like with Billy Summers I like the UK edition cover so much better. At least on Amazon Spain that nice cover is only avaliable as paperback.
A Death just didn't do much for me. I can see it is a terrific story, but I have an irrational loathing of things set in the 1800s, so I struggled a bit with it
Summer thunder was my favorite. Loved that King end the collection with this one. Nice gut punch to end it all. 👌
Heck yes!
Bad little kid creeped me out the most.
I enjoyed that one!
Came for the tractor, stayed for the digger.
😂😂😂

I think my favorite so far is insomnia. Too comic and then some tears for desert. Yum.
Awesome, glad to hear it!
Next I will start reading more of kings short story collections 📚📖
They're such good fun to dip in and out of
Another great review. Brilliant book also. Drunken fireworks a personal favourite.
Thank you!

Nice! And, yes, Drunken Fireworks is the bee's knees
Yep the King digger drives pass in the search for four legged woof makers 🤣🤣.
Lol

Love Drunken Fireworks, its so playful. But IT doesn't top a FUCKING DIGGER!
😂😂
The Bone Church is as good as Paranoid: A Chant. King's two best poems.
In all fairness, that’s a pretty low bar 😂
You need merch that reads f@#king tractor 😅
Ha! Only thing is I’ve just moved house - no longer on a tractor route 😮
You pronounced Ur the wrong way. The U is like the I in Irving and the R is like the R in Earn. Ur is like Earn without the N
How do you know that?
