Honestly, Crimson wood is pretty good for making Japanese styled roofs. I rarely make that style because of its complexity, but when I do, Crimson works the best. I do agree with you though that Crimson wood is very niche
I feel like it would also work nice in a... erm... fleshy build: not only do the logs obviously have veins, the purple-red reminds me of a bruise colour.
Surprisingly, Minecraft wood is one of the most controversial debate topics, outisde of Bedrock vs Java, 1.9 or 1.8 combat, or if Batman is a funny meme on this channel.
Mangrove is my favorite wood type visually as a builder, though you're totally right about the harvesting being absolute torture. The red hue is just so likable and it really spices up a build like no other wood can, even if it doesn't necessarily fit in all contexts (I would rather a woodtype be extremely good in few cases than decent in most cases)
Very recently I built a house out of Mangrove, Crimson, and Warped, which I personally think turned out incredible The idea of the house is that, not only is it a house, but it's also a Pokémon gym (Cobblemon server), specifically a fire type gym So it uses the most fiery reddish wood, along with the 2 woods most adapted for heat
Just use an enchanted hoe when mining the leaves and wart blocks of the big trees. It saves so much time and also quickly reveals the wood blocks you may have missed. A hoe with Fortune III would also prevent that sapling shortage problem you described because you can get more saplings from cutting leaves with that. I would also recommend surrounding the sapling with 4 flowers on each side to increase the changes of bee hives spawning with them.
You'll still have to pillar up for the higher leaves, which is still quite a hassle than just letting it decay (except for dark oak's and pale oak's leaves), which honestly makes the nether "trees" even more bad. Also about the hoe, do people actually carry fortune hoes? I can see silk touch hoes being used because of gathering leaves, but fortune hoes are so niche that you might as well destroy the entire forest for saplings (I guess it's not a problem in the late game when you have villagers).
Pale oak is such a gem. I've finally been able to finish a perfect scale model of my house bc a ton of the inside doors are white. It just looks so good.
The Pipeline: -Mention counting tree resources so Jungle can place higher -Uncover a deep-rooted trauma of back-breaking bee preservation in a desolate world
Mangrove being ranked so high on the first list is interesting. All the really vividly colored wood types are pretty hard for me to use. The most I do with mangrove is use it for roofs, because I don't like the way it looks as a primary wall or even floor material. I definitely like the softer tones of the cherry wood more, especially when contrasted with dark oak. (It reminds me of strawberry and chocolate) Also I kinda like the birch log texture. I think it frames a large wall of birch planks particularly well.
Also, I don't really like the spruce door very much. It's just a little too rustic for my building style. The spruce TRAPDOOR though, is probably my favorite, because it's absolutely perfect for building shelves, since there's not really any "depth" to it like there is with the dark oak trapdoor.
i like the acacia trapdoor because it can be used in desert builds as like, a psuedo window, with the grates proving outdoor ventilation, (i also thing the orange works better with sandstone blocks)
Im a sucker for cherry but i think it's because for me, i do enjoy actually having hyperspecific colours and blocks. Like yeah i wouldnt get a pretty pink house if i didn't have a specifically pretty pink tree. Surprisingly why J don't enjoy spruce that much. It feels too unniched to me to the point where I'd prefer to use dark oak because it stands out more to me
I prefer lighter woods personally so I always heavily favored birch and later also bamboo. For darker wood I slightly prefer dark oak, but I definitely like spruce as well. I thought the layout of the video was interesting. Nice job 👍❤
Spruce trapdoors are my favorite block in the game. They are just so incredibly versatile. There is not 1 build where they couldn't be implemented in some way and still look ok.
It's because it's like the only trapdoor with an understated, earthy tone that also isn't riddled with holes. Every other trapdoor it's like "oh this could look cool.... if it wasn't 50% see-through because of the holes in it".
Honestly i wish that saplings and the trees themselves were in seperate catagories as it really could have impacted ranking for trees like cherry and possibly even ones like pale oak and birch. The saplings could be placed completely seperate from trees and be so insanely different in ranks! I am glad birch did good in this tho, it gets so much hate but its such a versatile block!
My wood ranking! 12. Crimson - I agree, I have sadly never found a use for this wood in my build and it's also annoying to get 11. Warped - Same thing as crimson except a little bit more unique and could work well in a water theme 10. Bamboo - I'm very neutral on it just because I haven't used it very much 9. Pale Oak - Since it's not out yet I haven't used it at all but I'm really not a fan of modern builds but I'm excited to combine it with quartz 8. Acacia - I like it but it can be hard to use 7. Jungle - Same thing as acacia but for some reason I've always kind of liked the pink tone, it seems very tropical 6. Oak - Idk but for some reason I actually found oak hard to use sometimes since it's so very neutral, I like contrast which puts oak lower down for me 5. Birch - It genuinely pains me to put birch so low since I love it but the top 5 for me is just so strong, I love the contrast it creates with the darker wood types 4. Cherry - It's so pretty and this is very biased since the reason I use it so much is just I love that exact aesthetic that fits with cherry 3. Mangrove - I paid barely any attention to it when it came out but now I love it so much! It's stunning and just gives great color to any build 2 Dark Oak - It feels like every single roof I ever make is made out of dark oak and I use at least a bit of it for every build 1. Spruce - Basic but it just is perfection, especially the trap door best thing in minecraft.
I have a port town on Minecraft. It has stone brick sidewalks and cobblestone streets, with Victorian/Edwardian brick building's I use every wood for my town builds. I like the pink wood because I usually make it for my Queen anne Victorian house's, but I love all the Minecraft wood planks they're beautiful
fun fact for anyone who cant stand the roots of mangrove trees: you can use them on a composter! good source of bonemeal :p also i always mine out the mangrove from the top of the tree downwards. its tedious but it guarantees not missing anything.
You should make a stone (and brick) ranking next! The list would probably be based off of mostly looks, but I wouldn't be surprised if the accessibility of the stone could also make it higher or lower on the list. The list would include... Stone: (Cobblestone, Smooth stone, Stone bricks, Cracked Stone bricks, mossy Stone bricks, Mossy Cobblestone, Infested stone bricks, infested stone, and all its slab and stairs.) Andesite: (Unpolished, Polished, Slab, stair, wall) Granite: (Unpolished, Polished, Slab, stair, wall) Diorite: (Unpolished, Polished, Slab, stair, wall) Tuff: (Unpolished, Polished, Chiseled Tuff, Tuff Bricks, and all its slabs, walls and stairs) Deep slate: (Cobbled Deep slate, Deep slate bricks, polished Deep slate, Chiseled Deep slate, cracked deep slate bricks, and all its slabs, walls and stairs) Blackstone: (Blackstone bricks, cracked Blackstone bricks, Polished Blackstone, Chiseled Blackstone, Gilded black stone, and all its slabs, walls and stairs) Sandstone: (Sandstone, Cut Sandstone, Chiseled Sandstone, Smooth sandstone, and all its slabs, walls and stairs) Red Sandstone: (Red Sandstone, Cut Red Sandstone, Chiseled red Sandstone, Smooth red sandstone, and all its slabs, walls, and stairs) Netherrack: (Netherrack, Nether Bricks, Cracked Nether Bricks, Chiseled Nether Bricks, Red Nether Bricks, Nether Brick fence, and all its slabs, walls and stairs) End stone: (End stone, End Stone bricks, cracked end stone bricks, and all its slabs, walls and stairs) Purpur: (Purpur Bricks, Chiseled Purpur, and it's slab, wall, and stair) Quartz: (Quartz block, Smooth Quartz, Quartz Bricks, Chise Quartz, and all its slabs, walls and stairs) Brick: (Bricks and the slab, wall, and stair) Tell me if I forgot any variants!
I understand why the Crimsom and Warped woods ranked so low, but come on, they can make some goaded nether-themed builds. I love making my portal room out of these two wood typee, along with deepslate.
Valid. I think I like the colourful woods more than you do, but I totally agree that the more neutral tones are way more versatile. I'm excited to use the pale oak though!
Hey I like crimson! The purplish color looks mysterious like no other log! It also is a neat color-combo with warped wood (probably on purpose). This however might have something to do with my builds generally being of a fantastical aesthetic.
yeah. for me how i'd describe Crimson wood as "alluring". i feel like that really encompasses what i see when building with it. "alluring" is kind of a good word to describe mysterious, entrancing, and inviting (... and alluring) all in one go
I really love using Dark Oak and Birch together, I think they compliment each other really well. Also personally biased toward Warped Planks because teal is one of my favorite colors.
yeah mud and mangrove are from the same biome, so i think they might been intentionally designed to work great together a combination i used that i was quite happy with is Mangrove, Oxidised (and a bit of unoxidised) Copper, Mud, and Tuff! i was making a build inspired by the Trial Chambers (i used mangrove wood because my trial chamber had a mangrove tree), and it turned out to be such a cool combination. Oxidised Copper especially, really pops when there's a bit of Mangrove surrounding it. and they kind of create a bit of an industrial construction-y vibe block of bamboo + mangrove highlights (including the logs specifically!), and then some other blocks (including yellows, greens, and browns), is also really nice. it feels really safe, warm, and calming
9:41 I personally love the metal bits. It gives it personality without sacrificing syngergy with builds. It would be pretty boring without the metal parts in my opinion
I was miffed about colorful wood getting the flak in this, but honestly it makes sense that generalist, neutral, brown wood is popular among the average playerbase.
Spruce is definitely my absolute favorite wood to work with, but my favorite tree is undoubtedly Cherry! It’s just beautiful and the leaves falling gives it the perfect anime feel 🌸
spruce on top is so true!! like it works so well in a lot of buildings! especially i adore combos like spruce/stone bricks, spruce/ oak or birch or dark oak, also the cherry/spruce combo is so gorgeous honestly
4:32 fun fact, the stripped bamboo wood and bamboo planks don't have the same texture. There are actually random stray dots on each that does not match up... for some reason
The top wood type for me would be azalea wood... _...if it actually existed_ (seriously how has Mojang just kept the very obvious placeholder oak wood for azalea trees this whole time, like they have 2 saplings and 2 leaf types for it but the tree doesn't have a unique wood)
I’d place pale oak and dark oak saplings higher because when mining you can get so much so quickly. Mostly because on bedrock you can insta mine wood. Also I never find getting enough saplings an issue…
17:25 IDK man, I've used the beehive tree thing many times. Like every second survival world that i do, I get bees just by adding flowers to my regular tree farm. I'm gonna chop down hundreds of trees, who cares if I don't get it after 10 trees.
As a big Birch fan, it’s nice to see it actually get some love rather than being rated really low majority of the time. More than happy to see it get to stand pretty well on its own
I think that Mojang should I add a custom wood for Azalea trees, making a green wood variant. An autumn themed biome with a gold/orange colour would also be nice. Great video!
Dye tier list would be fire 🔥🔥🔥 He could rank the overall look, and then some that get unique textures, such as glazed terracota and carpets on llamas.
Birch door was absolutely ROBBED, it's PERFECT for modern builds, and I find the crimson trapdoor very useful due to it's useful shape and lack of handle, and all jungle wood is useful for wet wood for builds near water. Also nether wood logs look super cool due to it's vein-like animated texture :D

17:39 You can stop this by placing a block ~10 blocks above the sapling
This convinced me to play modern minecraft
19:22 Erm... actually, oak can be automatically farmed without player input because bonemealing moss has a chance to generate an azalea 🤓👆
For me, it's birch, bamboo and crimson.
#1 the morning wood, very pleasurable
What did I just read
i think i was fine without knowing.....
Maple trees, righ? MAPLE TREES
spooky wood is kinda cool tbf
(clueless)
I was miffed about colorful wood getting the flak in this, but honestly it makes sense that generalist, neutral, brown wood is popular among the average playerbase.
I’m sure he will do some sort of joke like
“Ok guys, STICK with me for this one”
And then put a meme right after
odyssey's really *sprucing* things up with this ranking
@@BlueMarioGamingYour *joak* wasn’t funny.
@@HungryWarden damn, no need to be a *birch* about it.
Making puns... You all have a *warped* sense of humor.
@@intensellylit4100 I have run out of puns. Might as well go out in a splash of *crimson.*
Spruce is definitely my absolute favorite wood to work with, but my favorite tree is undoubtedly Cherry! It’s just beautiful and the leaves falling gives it the perfect anime feel 🌸
can we agree that the dark oak door looks like a large chocolate bar? or is that just me?
yea, but with a bit of the gold wrapper still on
100% chocolate
My personal favorite is warped, but I understand the low placement for how niche the color can be. Besides that I agree with all you placements
17:14 you’re more likely to get a beehive from a tree if there are a lot of flowers nearby
When I saw the announcement on the Discord server I thought it was going to be a short video because there are only 12 types. Good job!
19:41 someone here has a nuclear take
spruce on top is so true!! like it works so well in a lot of buildings! especially i adore combos like spruce/stone bricks, spruce/ oak or birch or dark oak, also the cherry/spruce combo is so gorgeous honestly
4:32 fun fact, the stripped bamboo wood and bamboo planks don't have the same texture. There are actually random stray dots on each that does not match up... for some reason
The mangroove glaze is CRAZY
I don't know how to use mangrove without making my build look like a Mexican restaurant
What's the downside? Mexican food is great! 😂
19:12 "Bamboo is the only farmable wood without player input"
Azalea tree farm: "I am 4 parallel universes ahead of you"
Bamboo isn't the only wood type that you can farm automatically, you can auto-farm oak wood with azelea trees
Also crimson and warped.
Spruce is so good. It's easy to get, and you can make 2x2 trees super easy with them, giving you a ton of wood really fast.
The top wood type for me would be azalea wood...
_...if it actually existed_ (seriously how has Mojang just kept the very obvious placeholder oak wood for azalea trees this whole time, like they have 2 saplings and 2 leaf types for it but the tree doesn't have a unique wood)
Make it exactly one hex code lighter than Oak.
15:40 You don’t BUILD with wart blocks, you compost them back into bonemeal
19:13 no, you are wrong. The nether trees and acacia trees can also be automatically farmed without player input.
Why apesificaly acacia?
I’d place pale oak and dark oak saplings higher because when mining you can get so much so quickly. Mostly because on bedrock you can insta mine wood. Also I never find getting enough saplings an issue…
17:25 IDK man, I've used the beehive tree thing many times. Like every second survival world that i do, I get bees just by adding flowers to my regular tree farm. I'm gonna chop down hundreds of trees, who cares if I don't get it after 10 trees.
As a big Birch fan, it’s nice to see it actually get some love rather than being rated really low majority of the time.
More than happy to see it get to stand pretty well on its own
4:02 Why did Odyssey burn a bunch of birch trees down??
17:07 Ohhhh no I get it
Spruce and dark oak go really well together and I personally like the warped wood too especially for floors in an enchanting setup
I think that Mojang should I add a custom wood for Azalea trees, making a green wood variant. An autumn themed biome with a gold/orange colour would also be nice. Great video!
I've been begging for a green and autumn-based wood type ever since I started playing in 2016!
You know things will be fire when Odyssey says "some are bound to be worse than others"
Rank all Note Block sounds!
spruce brainworms spotted, two page essay on why i don't like spruce that much incoming
Carpet colour tier list when?
Dye tier list would be fire 🔥🔥🔥
He could rank the overall look, and then some that get unique textures, such as glazed terracota and carpets on llamas.
I... I... I... I prefer Dark Oak over Spruce! I said it, everybody! Dark Oak supremacy (please don't raise your tridents)
You’re not alone, it’s my favorite too!
i won't raise the trident i'll raise the mace nah jk you're good
Spruce dominating the contest just makes sense ever since it was added it was most of the communities favorite
Jungle's placing is criminal considering it pairs the best with greens and stones
Vid ideas for you: Workbenches/interactable blocks ranked, Stone types ranked, all glazed terracotta ranked
8:33 WAIT ITS NOT A WINDOW?! my life is a lie.
Up to your imagination, I personally think it’s a white stained glass type window
I always thiught it was like a screeen
Screen door type thingg
