Could be an ideal cheap runabout. But the thing is, a few years ago such cars were a lot less expensive than they are today.
Depends on the car tbh, I bought my mk4 ford focus for £5,000 and it’s now going for £3,000 with the same mileage and age

@@PulsewayMedia I mean a ten year old focus in 2019 was a lot cheaper than a ten year old focus (which was five in 2019) is today. To put it another way, depreciation has drastically slowed .

A little gem of a motor. Cheap set of reliable wheels for the next 2-3 years, so much to be said for buying cars on this budget. Good work!
Gets annoying replacing the car every 2-3 years though and having the air conditioning needing fixing all the time. And probably other niggling faults.

I love how the Wondergrip Van and the Lay By Bin are now just staples of any "I bought a cheap..." video.
Also, I saw it talked about on another channel, but hats off to Matt for making the Sponsor ad-read segment a part of the video. There are times I genuinely forget it is a sponsor segment because I'm usually keen to see what the report returns.
As for that Focus, got to say that is a really lovely colour, and the two-tone interior is nice as well.

You don't really have to replace a Focus door seals, I stuck mine back on with gorilla double sided tape.

Gorilla glue has held up mine for two years now.
Owned a 2013 Focus ST for 10 years. Apart from the obligatory weather strips needing to be glued back and the battery being replaced after 8 years, the car was faultless. Plus I got 50% of what I paid for it new when I sold it.
Great purchase.
Had a similar experience with my 2013 MK3 Focus ST in the US - quite a tough car actually. The automatic is useless though- avoid like the plague!

£20 annual tax but non ulez..is tax not for emmisions..yet my 2003 focus 1.6 petrol is ulez but £325 to tax...ulez is a con

Ive got a 63 plate Focus titanium navigator. Had it for the last 7 years, 45550 miles and even shoe it with premium tyres. When I sell it someone will get a great car. Everyone says I’m mad for looking after it so well.
Got a 10 plate 2.0 Focus had it 12 years and its done 102K miles rattles a bit at the rear but been a good car. If they do go wrong the parts are cheap and they are easy to fix.
Have a 2017 Titanium 1.5 tdci ( 120ps)... it is my third Focus....Reliable, refined, economical and looks good... what's not to like
You shouldn’t be so suspicious of why a car has been serviced and then sold it, particularly if it has full service history, shows the owner was capable of doing admin re servicing a car on time. People sell cars for all sorts of reasons.
Have had a Mondeo ST TDCI and now a Grand Cmax 1.6 diesel and common thing with ford in my experience is fuel injectors 🤯 crazy money
Indeed. My brother has just paid £1500 for four new injectors for his Ford Galaxy.

I got really excited when I saw this video, I have a 2015 facelift focus titanium x also in candy red and it is just absolutely fantastic. They are so good to drive, the chassis have pretty much no limits, it’s got good power, reliable and looks fantastic!! I still can’t believe it’s a 9 year old car! Not to mention build quality (except for the weather stripping on the doors) is right up there with the premium brands! The door edge protectors are amazing to have in tight car parks as well. Just fantastic cars!
Got two Mk3 focuses (2012 1.6 Ti-VCT and 2013 2.0 TDCi) and the door strips are shagged. Bought some replacements from eBay because Ford want silly money and I've tried re-sticking them but once they've been on and come off, they just don't hold any more even with decent tape, but can't find the enthusiasm to fit them, really need to though. The boggo headlights are also a weak point - wife's car had already had one replaced and I had to replace the other as they leak and someone had already tried gumming it up with silicone. Those Ford badges on the boot always go manky too. Lucky the parcel shelf is there, they are so flimsy they collapse and the plastic clips for the hinges bust off. Replacements are cheap, but the shelf is usually too mashed by that point to fit them reliably, and replacement shelves are hard to come by for obvious reasons. Not bad cars, if unexciting, other than that though

Evo stick contact works a treat with those door seals... i know as i had to do all 4 doors on my old focus ecoboom... before the engine went boom and then got shot of it once fixed after ford backed down and agreed to fix all 1.0 litre engines if they failed due to overheating... and overheating is what that did in 3 years of owning it the heater matrix leaked coolant, 2 degas hoses butst spraying coolant out under the bonnet, the coolant bottle burst and leaked coolant then the engine seized due to overheating... got all my money back that i paid out and some was done under warranty but wouldn't touch a ford with a barge pole ever again
Must of just had a dodgy one. I’ve only had great experiences with Ford cars and the company itself. The 1.0s are a bit problematic, if you were to go for a diesel, especially the 2.0 you’d have a lot less trouble as they are very good. I know someone with a galaxy with over 500,000 miles on it and had hardly any issues at all. Not to mention I know many people with the diesels including myself with high and low mileage that never put a foot wrong. Even high mileage ones I know that are driven hard and do trailer towing still do not have issues. Maybe worth another try one day!
@@emvlogzz5307 yeah the 1.0 ecoboost engine is a known nightmare of an engine between them overheating and the wet belt issue blocking the pickup pipe. i only do around 8000 miles a year and my work is 10 miles away so a diesel is out of the question for me as it would have endless egr and dpf blockages, drive a 2022 340i now that's been completely pain free so far with only a set of tyres needed. but yes the ford diesels seemed to be a lot better than those ecobooms
@@g.d2450 ahhh yeah a diesel wouldn’t be suited to you then, I do about 1,600 miles a month so I benefit from them more haha. yeah the diesels are really good. The 1.5/1.6 eco boosts are a lot better than the 1.0s I believe. It’s a shame that the 1.0s were so problematic because the older duratec/zetec engines were cracking engines. I bet the 340i is a lovely car!
@@emvlogzz5307 best car I've ever owned, decided to treat myself after getting made redundant from my last job a few years ago and got a very good severance package, luckily walked into another job closer to home the following month so thought why not, lifes too short not to enjoy it while we're here lol

There are 2 things that are certain in the motoring world; Most fords will be dangling a bit of weather strip and the headlining of a VW Golf will be unattached where the sunglasses storage is above your head. Awesome video as always.
I’ve got a 63 reg focus zetec 1.6tdci,fantastic car,I’ve owned it since nearly new,FSH 87k loves motorways and 80mpg a few times if driven like a vicar,I’m not in a hurry to change it.

1985, a maestro with a talking dash came in for lack of power. the old dear tells me it talks to her every time she starts it up. "she says good morning", nope, "low oil warning" , engine was knackered.... bless them...
The Mk1 and Mk2 are better, they put too many buttons on the Mk3, styling is a bit plain and not as well built. However Focus are great everyday hatchbacks.
Magnificence cannot be cheap, for what is cheap cannot be magnificent.

Got the 2.0L Sport unleaded of these, absolutely cracking car. Its a manual and I keep it showroom mint mechanically and aesthetically. It is seriously one of the best, and imo somewhat overlooked, daily's. The DCT auto's are absolute shit but if you can get a manual, what few there are, you're set. One of the best cars for the money.

HOW ARE CARS IN THE UK SO CHEAP!!!!!!! This Ford in it's initial state with a good clean only, would cost an average of 7 - 8000 EUR where i live and i am not even exaggerating.
I’ve owned one of these. Great car! The tax in the Netherlands is insane tho, 120 Euro’s per month. Also you need to check the injectors, Continental goes bad around 300k kms. Bosch is the one you want cause ‘they don’t fail’ (words from my former mechanic)

As a former owner of a 2014 Ford Focus Ecoboost, I recommend people NOT to buy a Ford as these cars require a lot of regular expensive repairs.
Best go for more reliable and durable Japanese cars like Lexus, Toyota, Honda.
I recommend people to get a Lexus NX - perfect size, perfect suitability, very comfy seats and top quality fuel efficient driving performance.
I had 2 company focus both did 130k. The first was a v reg 1.8lx petrol which i caned everywhere. Totally reliable and very comfortable. Handling superb. Then had a 54 plate 2.0ghia with cruise control heated front seats and windscreen. This too totally reliable and decently quick, superb handling and comfort more refined than 1.8. When coming back from London to midlands in early hours would cruise at 3 figure speeds.( pre speed cameras and over zealous laws). I think fords lost the plot after that. Also drove some of sierras and early mondeos in the fleet too and were superb cars. My daughter’s 1.0 fiesta bought new a pile of junk and Ford back up not there. Such a shame as Fords were my car of choice fiestas,escorts, cortina’s, sierras, focus and mondeo. Now am at a loss on what to own. Just wanting a cheap reliable car. Cant find anything I like enough to replace my beloved berlingo petrol but surprising purchase 8yrs ago. Also new fords dual mass flywheels so 800-1000 for a clutch. Waiting for the Rome trip Matt so excited
Another great "all the car you'll ever need" video. Excellent job on this Focus (although I think I'd have replaced the rear Ford badge). All set now to give its next owner a few more years, and many miles service. Not a bad buy at 3K.

Great review as ever, but what's wrong with GT radials - mid range, German tyre!! Normally with really good specs for the price.
But not having them both on the front axle seems a bit weird..

Always some interesting cars to be seen on Malta. Although most of the 80s European daily drivers seem to have been swapped for grey import 90s Japanese superminis.

I'm with you Matt. I always liked that filler cap style on that era of Focus hatchbacks. It's embarrassing quality for the door seals though. Can't think of another other car with the same issue. Well done for another profit. Massively underspent could be the next catchphrase for this excellent channel.
I got my 2011 mark 2, Focus 1.6 TDCi almost 2 years ago on a trade sale. From a dealer, Paid £1395 for it, its now on almost 189,000 miles, it was on 166,000 when I got it, its cheap to run and parts are cheap too, compared to the 2005 Mondeo which was a 2,0 petrol (which the focus replaced), that was a bit of a lemon as I spent a fortune keeping it on the road, the earliest mark 3 Focus I have seen came out on the 61 plate, shame the Mark 1's are getting rare and hard to find on a budget, I am after a mark 1 estate manual but finding one of them local is hard
Changes the numberplates to "freshen up" the look of the car, but omits to replace the obviously damaged rear FORD badge, mentions how clean the interior is, comments that he doesnt like the floor mats and will replace them but doesn't?
Lastly the car did require an MOT due on 23rd May 2024, which it failed due to headlights issues and nearside front anti-roll bar linkage damage. The car was retested and an MOT issued on 24th May.
Hi Matt, First of all love the Focus, love the newer European versions more, looks very Nice and wish it was imported here, anyway weather wise, can't say that the UK weather is the most wackiest I've ever experienced, you should try Melbourne Australia, weather changes in minutes, could be cold and miserable one minute, then the weather changes and it's the opposite, you may even have an entire season in a day. Learning a lot about the brand of tyres on your channel also some of which I've never heard in my life. Anyway get well soon, see you in the next one.
Why is nobody buying the 1.6 petrol version, they're capable of reaching 200,000 miles, quite practical if needs be, I have one still going.
Why paint panels just sell it cheaper “as is” it’s a cheap motor
The cheap Focuses you've done always seem "OK", not immaculate, but generally well looked after whereas the cheap VW Golfs have been abused and look like a farm yard inside.
So, the dent removal crew...... what (or possibly whom) do they wish to keep off camera...... is it a local miscreant or possibly a newly imported one...... the plot thickens 😮

I have a 2005 mg zt 2.5 v6, full mot no advisories for 2 years running with 61000 miles and it makes this look like a skip

I had to get rid of my much loved low mileage 2011 MK 3 diesel Focus. Fully serviced and belt done at ten year interval. Problems with DPF which couldn't be sorted by a good run to clear it. Hadn't got the time to go through all the diagnostics but cant stop wondering was it a simple fix.
A new Stockport County Council dustbin. You are spoiling us Matt, spoiling us I tell you !

Oh, that plastic creak from the buttons and the clang of the doors. Always tinny with the interior like a plastic egg box. Ford is miles behind in these regards. With that mileage £1200 seems way too much.
If I wanted to buy a porsche which is the best model for 15000 pound milage performance what should I be looking for..?
I had a ford focus TDCI 2011 kept going into limp mode found it was the module on the radiator fan ,which meant i had to have fan with the module,as they did not sell the module by its self .
Then I changed the fuel filter as told water in fuel filter is causing the running issue,
Then limp mode came back after 3 weeks so turn engine off then it was good to go but got worse through the weeks every time i came to a certain set of traffic lights slightly on a hill gradient it would go into limp mode on the way to work but happening two times a day, But garage could not find a issue,when on a diagnostic
I was told by another garage they can suffer from a build up of mold or fungus in the fuel tank if not kept 3/4 full due to condensation build up in the winter then that mixes with the fuel and gets into the fuel lines and causes all sorts of issues. I could of bought certain stuff that helps kills or suppose to stop the growth in the tank, but as the tank and fuel lines and filter and injectors would of been effected already effected if it was the issue ,it was not worth getting the work done,
I really liked the car, great size boot and cheap to run but had to scrap it in the end, I was also told by another garage he had known issues with water pump that can cause the running problem I described,
The first garage said they need it to break down and not stat back up be for they could find the issue, I told them its going into limp mode several times a day now and only drives about ten MPH,I just did not understand why when placed on the diagnostics they could not find the issue,
I also think cars with turbo prematurely damages engines as engines getting smaller they get hotter due to less fuel being used down to the turbo, to many cars are fitted with turbo to get more power on smaller engines like the Eco boost 1.0 ltr ford fiesta , your find many of them being sold, and high pressure side of the injectors failing when hitting over the 60 MPH then going into limp mode.
Modern cars are becoming useless way be for there time,
I would buy a older car with no turbo and a manual gear if only the sub frames were solid and all suspension joints were good and fitted with airbags,but very rare to find today,
Bring back a modern carburetor and remove unwanted electrical parts that warn us about other electrical parts failing, to many electrics to go wrong today and transmissions are not as solid,

Its a 13 year old vehicle. Thing is, if you had an accident, even if it was not your fault, the insurance write-off value for that car is around £1550 and that's all the insurance company would pay out on it.
Awesome value for money this Focus, please change the Ford badge as the icing on the cake🎉
