Good luck mate, a finer thing you couldn't be doing! 👍🇳🇿
@johnatherton71 But the difference is that German cars sell in huge numbers and the companies that produce them are independent and profitable! Those German sheds as you call them actually have a much higher owner retention than anything JLR makes so apparently they must be satisfying their owners well enough for them to buy another one. Six of the top ten selling vehicles in the UK are German marques or designs.
@@williamegler8771 They used to be until the accoutants took over. Now the reliabilty is average at best with far too many plastic parts waiting to fail. No luxury cars are cheap to own, you just have to pick the right model and keep your fingers crossed.

@@matthewgodwin3050what are you huffing mate? Ford era jags are the worst ones by miles. For reliability it is the new ones that beats the rest, I know the modern looks aren't for the older gents tastes but are very stylish designed by Ian atleast. Loved my XF mark2 so far.

G'day from WA! As soon as I saw the title I thought 'hello, here we go'! I'm looking forward to the update - please do one. I'm sure it will be a beauty when its finished. Well done Matt! You're a gem!
When I heard you say the MOT had lapsed and it wouldn't actually start, "The Life of Brian - what have the Romans ever done for us?" came to mind. I just knew there was going to be a rather long list to come.
Definitely not lost your mind. This is a classic that will start to appreciate in value soon I feel. It's arguably one of the most handsome Jag shapes but is modern enough to daily drive. I think it looks best without the chrome trim in XJR spec but traditionalists will like the chrome. That's a classy special interior. Nothing modern this side of a Bentley has that feel.
Please do another video when its finished. As it has been well looked after by its previous owner and has a full history it is probably worth saving and someone will have the pleasure of driving it for many more miles. I just hope you don't have to sell it at a loss.

If I was home in the UK I'd be paying you a visit and saying; 'old out yer hand! She is going to be a beauty and well worth saving in my opinion. Nice one.
Crazy! When being around certain cars, it is easy to overpowered by a kind of insanity. If the pricetag will be around 5.000 it'll roll out of the shop pretty quick. For small money someone would get a "majestic" car to show off at car shows, as you mention. Promise to make a update video when it's finished.

Worth 500 just for the experience regardless. Thing is your saving a future classic, it costs you money but to a enthusiast that can do the work themselves then it's a different thing. Good work, glad it's getting the love it deserves, keep it.
Looks mint 👌
Polo Mint?
@@timbutton4990 yes
Well done for saving it, low mileage, good history, great back story. Of course it needed saving! Yeah it has cost a few quid but cheap Jags dont come cheap. Great save, well done Matt.
Your missus/future missuses will defo be expecting great things given your track record of overspending 😂
Wait he’s not fruity?
@@johnatherton71 Disappointed ?
@@eoinoconnell185 not particularly, just an observation
I think you’re on the money with this Matt, you’re final comment about someone to own and treasure, attending shows etc, would be great fun for a jag enthusiast, would make a great buy and genuine to boot! 👍
Jagggggg!
Hi Matt i always enjoy your Vids especially when they're about a Jaaag! As a Jag enthusiast (2003 XJ8 4.2 n/a) Thankyou for saving that old girl! I'd say keep it! But that said, young bloke like yourself, an X350 XJR in top nick! It doesn't matter what you've spent on her as long as you can afford it, do your best by the old girl and if you must sell her, get a good price and make sure she goes to a really good home, someone who will love and appreciate the Lady and Cherish her, like I do mine! Good luck mate, a finer thing you couldn't be doing! 👍🇳🇿
£500… surely this has to be a lemon
Jaguars can be if you buy a money pit.
I know from experience !
Whether it is £500 or £50,000 it is a Jaguar so of course it is a lemon.
@@williamegler8771almost as much as those German sheds
I had to rewatch this - the mandatory trip to Tameside Valeting is nowhere to be seen! Seriously, I would love to see this car when all the cosmetic stuff has been done. Congratulation Matt - you are preserving our national heritage!
Jaguar: “A nice place to sit waiting for a tow-truck!”
These were actually pretty good for reliability back in the day. They came quite close to the top in those customer satisfaction survey things. I've always liked the Ford era Jags. They seem to be the best ones to have.
@@MK-ly3gk I'm with you on the styling. But in regards to quality and reliability, I still think the Ford era cars were better.
You saved it Mat!, I wondered if you’d been successful. Can’t wait to see the old girl painted. I remember it when it was new. The engine has had a really easy life and any corrosion is from the years standing 👍👍👍
A £5k Classic Car for the price of an electric bike. Bargain.
I think its worth every penny, it a beautiful car and needs saving, and your the man to do it!
Be honest Matt I don't think you lost the plot 😊I really do understand I seen loads of classics on road at weekend it puts a smile on your face 😊
Hay Matt, that X308 XJ is absolutely stunning. My Mother had a similar XJ many years ago in light blue and to this day still says it is one of the nicest driving cars she has ever owned. Keep up the fantastic videos!
Something special about old Jags, my brother once came home with a Daimler Sovereign 4.2. He was only 20 at the time, we had a laugh driving round in it, a lovely car that sadly hadn't been looked after but will never forget the ride....like a magic carpet.
Matt, from the off, I somehow knew you would end up saying, "I've massively overspent on this one"
Howe et, this Jauguar does look good & the interior looks very luxurious. Well done for saving it from the scap yard. 👍👍
in a few years people will be pleased that car is still around. well done.
A magnificent looking car 😍 even when it's dirty and needs paint. Would look splendid outside a stately home and even better on your driveway ❤ Can you see yourself keeping it, Matt? Definitely worth the spend.
2 ways to make your money back, either use for a wedding car or get into the film industry to supply cars for filming. It's just a thought and, like you said, keeps a classic on the road. High Peak Wedding Cars!
It's good that you've saved it. It's clear that's important to you and hats off for it. I hate scrapping cars and this is one worth saving. Someone will appreciate it, once it's back to full strength. And if you make a little profit along the way it was worth it, ne c'est pas? Winner, winner, I'd say.
I really like this car. Once the paintwork is done and cleaned it will look better than new. They are much better cars than the original XJ cars
G'day from WA! As soon as I saw the title I thought 'hello, here we go'! But I agree, it's just too nice a car to let it go so well done for investing in it, although 14 months and not finished - didn't even clean the moss of it?! Must be a record!
Stick with it Matt, it will be worth the effort. There is definitely a lovely motor under there somewhere
That's a thing of real beauty. Cars like that deserve to be saved. Don't get rid of the stripe whatever you do.
Beautiful cars. I was so close to getting one in my youth and figured it would be too much to maintain. I just noticed that the control layout for the trip information is actually in the shape of a paw!
Mark sure you shows us it again once the paintwork is all done, style and class
Old school Jaaaags like this need saving, Sir William Lyons got that profile spot on. Have driven the XJ8 years ago ( my boss used to have me drop him off at York races, get the car for the day and pick him and his pals up in the evening, happy days ). Even the X type I owned was like a 3/4 size XJ. Classic fault with the headlining drop !!. Matt please get the paint done and show us all the result. Cheers.
