That much pepperoni looks awful in my opinion. I like pepperoni but if a pizza is covered with it I would just rather take a veggie pizza cause both would just taste the same in my mouth, horrible.

Having pepperoni on Detroit deep dish is better than having pepperoni on any other style of pizza tho imo. When it cups up on the Detroit deep dish it just hits different.

Makes sense that in the land of “more is better” the Detroit style pizza would simply add more of everything (more crust, cheese and roni) to the original Italian idea. Both are perfect depending on your mood or personal preference.

I lived in Detriot 2 years as an Atlanta native the bread game up there is on point, the pizzas are way better. The grass grows super vibrant green there so i can see how wheat grows well. Good beer making state too.

As someone who has been living in the metro-detroit area since i was i 8 (i am 34 now). Outside of it being deep dish and square, i've never seen a pizza place put that much pepperoni on pizza without having to pay for it. Lol!

This is really good pizza for a number of reasons, such as it's filling, it's hearty, it taste good, it's right off a train stop, it's inexpensive, it's simple, it replaced another pizza spot that was terrible, and it's near a movie theater, so you can sneak it in. So Lions & Tigers & Squares wins!!
It's filling because you're mostly eating bread, which is the cheapest part of the whole pizza.

@HeavyDutyTraining old fashion Sicilian pizza is way better than Detroit style pizza. Plus I almost always prefer a plain cheese slices over something covered in a bunch toppings. I want to taste the sauce and cheese more.
Both styles are good and for different settings. Chicago and Detroit deep dish pizza is more of a sit down and eat affair. NYC style is street food. Something you can while on the go.
Okay straight up, last night I was walking along 23rd Street on a super cold ass night with the wind whipping around buildings, it was 10° out. I happened to find this place randomly and was in big need of a hot snack. I had no idea business insider did a YT video on it but I tried a slice of mushroom and a classic slice, awesome job guys, kept me full on my subway ride home and warmed up. Thought the cheese tasted different from mozz and it looked different too in person, definitely need to go back here again.
They picked the sorriest slice of NY pizza to compare to Detroit Pizza. That's how you know you have little confidence in your product, when you don't put it up against quality from the opposition. FYI, I love detroit style, and I'm from NY. I'm just saying.

The pizza was cold and had like 3 pieces of pepperoni. That looked like one of those dollar slices from a corner joint you get at 4am because you're wasted, and it's the only thing open that late. Check other food channels that get real NY style pizza and you'll see what a real slice is supposed to look like. Now mind you, I'm still not claiming which is better, just saying that was a pathetic excuse for a New York slice.

I like how they think only being able to taste tomato sauce is smart to me I know exactly what to expect if I tried this pizza you would taste the pepperoni but then he would taste nothing but tomato sauce where is it's perfect just with two tomato sauce and the cheese over it because it over power set and then it just makes it taste like a liquid soup it would be no different than going to Pizza in when they put too much tomato sauce on and I never heard of this until recently when you sit down and think about it it's the first time I guess it just gained popularity which tells me it took a long time for a recent because it can't hold up to New York and I don't even live in New York and I would never go get that pizza cuz I know what town and too much tomato sauce taste like on a pizza

As a Californian, I take the happy middle ground. Pizza is a lot like fashion. It just depends on the weather and the vibe. I feel like new york style is perfect for summer, vs chicago style is better for winter. Because in the summer, having a thinner, lighter slice leaves you full but without feeling uncomfortable in the heat. It's nice because you can be out at the beach or in the city and get it by the slice as a quick lunch. Vs in the winter, a chicago style pizza is more filling and something you can either make at home or get delivered. When you make it at home, the baking process makes things seem cozier.

It's one of those things where they're different enough that it depends on what you're in the mood for. Sometimes I want a basic slice, sometimes I want that crispy pan crust with a shit ton of stuff on it.

Sukumaran Sulojana few things. The type of pizza the Detroit place was serving was probably meant to be mostly pepperoni. Secondly, many people prefer not to have a mouthful of pepperoni every time they take a bite. Thirdly Pepperoni is extremely cheap, so there really wouldn’t be an economic value to put more or less on. Next (similar to previous) the places with less pepperoni choose to put less on because that is the recepie, not because it saves them money. Lastly those “greedy pizzarias usually charge one to two dollars per slice to stop complaining about a lack of pepperoni, if they were greedy they would upcharge.
Pepperoni is not "extremely cheap". It is the most expensive ingredient by weight, generally about half again as much as cheese, the second most expensive ingredient. In any case, I agree with Sukumaran.

Because people always have the Chicago vs NY pizza debate. Chicago style is so sub-par. Detroit all the way for deep dish is a no-brainer, so the next logical question is does it dethrone NY style? For me, overall yes. even though it's close and depends on the NY or Detroit place. There's obviously some NY style that is great and better than some NY pies.

NY pizza ain't what it used to be. There are still some banging slices out there, but there are also so many subpar slices; so many more than there used to be. Like 2 Bros. That style of Pizza is what you're likely to find in any Italian household over here. Thin round pizzas are only available in restaurants with a wood oven, it would taste dry and crunchy in a regular oven. In a way it's more traditionally Italian than a NY style.
