my wife's father loved watching hummingbirds out of his big bay window most of his life.after his retirement thats about all he did, because of health reasons he couldnt get around much, but he loved his comfy chair, and his little hummingbirds, not very long after his retirement he passed away, and my wife was completely destroyed over it. a few weeks after his passing we were sitting in our home talking and out of the blue we had a single little hummingbird fly up to our big plate glass window and literally just hover. looking in at us. we had no feeders or have ever seen any hummingbirds at our home. we feel it was a sign to my wife that all was going to be alright. now we cant wait to put our feeders out.and enjoy these awesome little creatures.
that happened to my husband too. His father was an avid Eagle watcher. After he passed my husband saw an Eagle perched in a tree branch on his way home. He pulled over and walked right up under the tree and the Eagle stayed there for 20 minutes. It was an area that eagles do not frequent, so very eerie.
That's a beautiful story. I can't help but wonder if perhaps your little bird and 123janbartels eagle are both reincarnations...and I don't (didn't) believe in reincarnation. I guess anything is possible.
I can tell you, the hummingbirds remember them. They remember every flower they've ever visited. They're sure as heck to to remember eating out of a hand. Love it.
yup! They are SUPER ATTRACTED to RED COLOR ... (however using red food color harms their health! Careful!) I was blessed enough to take care of a blue-throated humming bird whose wing got injured ... now he sits on my finger, waits to be fed, super sweet and smart little guy with a strong will to live practicing flying here and there ... I cant wait to release him when his wing gets okay!
yeah, its been a week since I found him in the garage with one wing stretched unable to fold it ... now he is much better, flies here and there, but with difficulties and keeps falling down, so I run all over the place and keep catching him :-) I think he knows I am doing my best for him so he cooperates ... amazing species this is!!!! A blessing and a dream come trough for me to be so so so close to such fantastic species ... and I cant wait to release him soon so he can fly home and be free :-)
I bought a brand called Homestead that is red - is the red color in the 'brands' you buy bad for them too, or just standard home baking food coloring? I would never add the latter, but the Homestead is already red, and does seem to be the one they like the most (it has vitamins minerals and calcium to help them build their shells, (and to keep them from going near the risky ground to eat dirt etc. as they are known to do, to gain calcium in their diet) I sure wish I could get them to share better!
Robert, I dont know if that is not suitable to their health either, however, its super easy to make just water based nectar. I used information from the ornithologist - purified water (not tap water, may contain chemicals or bacterias - not good for them either) and WHITE sugar (not brown, no honey, no melasa - the problem here is when you dilute it with water it starts growing bacteria that is fatal for hummingbirds) thats it, purified water and white sugar. They also sell reddish feeders so they still are attracted. However, my little fella who is recovering got used to the taste not to the color, now he searches for transparent glass I was feeding him from, because he could not fly ... Well, now I am bringing more red flowers from the garden so he knows what to do when he is free again :-) And now I am off to catch a small fly for him as well because they need protein as well ... :-)
dana brejakova Dana I use tap water when I make the nectar for the hummingbirds, but, I boil the water and sugar, then let it cool. I then put it in a container and put it in the refrigerator. My little hummingbirds are crazy for this nectar!!
I'm glad you do not use the red nectar any longer! It is better to use the sugar & water boiled for 2 minutes then cooled. This was a beautiful video.💙
the second most beautiful bird in the world hummingbird I was standing for 10 minutes just to see one come by my hummingbird feeder today just to video record it was worth the 10 minutes when you have a bad day and you see one of these beautiful birds your whole day gets a whole lot better again.
If anyone still sees this video. Please do not use Red Dye in your hummingbird feeder. Its bad for the birds. Just use water and sugar; about 4 to one ratio. The red on the feeder's fake flowers is enough to attract them to the sugar and water. Cheers.
I love hummingbirds too. At first the cardinal was my top favorite, but now that I'm able to hand feed chickadees they're at the top of the list, but the hummingbird is second on the list. They are just absolutely STUNNING.

Christian Gainey Nice idea, but I have an aversion to the introduction of non-native species artificially. They tend to wreak havoc to the local ecosystem. Witness Grey squires in the UK (Decimated Red squirrels with squirrel pox) or the cane toad, camel and rabbit in Australia. Plus I doubt the would survive our winters given they are normally about 3 hours from starving to death.
I use plane white sugar, anything other than that can cause health issues.. I have three 24oz feeders and fill them every day. Clean out the container every refill including the flowers and inside the base. If mold and fungus grow in the feeder, the fungus can infect the hummingbird's tongue and make it swell up causing the condition known as Hummers Candidiasis.
Mr. Scott, this video is truly amazing. You along with your family members' love towards hummingbirds is adorable. I love hummingbirds. Your caring efforts really touched me.
I live in Tucson Arizona and I have hummingbird feeders and they come year around to feed themselves from the nectar I make every 3 days...I just LOVE to see them they are part of my happiness,I thank Jehovah God for that wonderful creation!!! Ricky Zen no, I don’t use dyes in the nectar that I make for the hummingbirds and there’s so many species that comes to my front yard to enjoy the nectar and it’s all year around!!!
Yes, Jehovah's creation is proof of his love for all life great and small. I am sure you don't use red dye. How many species of hummingbirds do you have visit your feeders?

mama hummingbird made a nest in a wind chime on my balcony this year and raised two chicks. I put a feeder up for them and watched them fledge. brilliant experience... the whole family continues to feed and we've planted hummingbird/butterfly friendly flowers too. it's like having wild pets 😃
OMG... Having one of these beauties feed out of my hand has been on my "Bucket List" for more years than I can count. Living in Southern California, we're blessed with these tiny visitors for a good portion of the year... and now that I know how simple it is to get them to hand-feed, I'm going outside right now to try it out! Thanks for a magnificent video and tutorial; it made my day.

lol XD I thought the same for a second. but remembered I have the same hummingbird feeder. BTW, they don't peck. Their long thing on their nose is used like a straw.
it is, you just have to be patient. I learned this when I was about 9, I was in our garden sitting by some flowers and watching the hummingbirds and I noticed they weren't scared, so I put my hand below the flowers they were drinking from and sat very very still and eventually, they started perching on my finger. It was soooo amazing. That was 50 years ago and I still love them.
I appreciate that many people have lots of opinions on whether the red dye hurts hummingbirds. Firstly, I don't know. Secondly, Snopes - a fact checking web site, Doesn't know either (www.snopes.com/fact-check/dye-cast/). I do know this: Since I originally created the video, we don't use it anymore because this is cheaper and works just fine: 4 parts water, 1 part sugar. I recommend you use it as well. :)
I like how the thumbnail looks really gruesome, it looks like the hummingbird bird had pecked a massive gash that its bleeding and the humming bird is drinking the blood.
Misaki Ayuzawa Not true. I love this, and I am a hunter. There is a difference between trophy hunters and those that have respect for nature and the balance of life.
My heart is soaring…thank you for this video. Makes me feel joyful and peaceful. So happy for these children to have such a lovely experience. Magical.
If a hummingbird doesn't eat about every 15 minutes it will die. He probably saved those birds' life from the other bird trying to murder his competition.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️........I live in Connecticut, USA and I am lucky to see two or three hummingbirds at my feeder’s. Although I don’t sit still very long I feel so blessed when I go out meditate and open my eyes and see them hovering there. And I pray every year that I get more
This is beautiful! But... Just for next time remember that you should never actually put red food dye in your necter, allways put it in a red container, because red food dye is poisonous to hummingbirds.
There are hand feeders that are closed containers. If you want to feed hummingbirds. .. use the ratio of 4 cops water to 1 cup of regular table sugar. If your tap water is not the greatest, boil it. Let it get to room temp before filling feeder. The sugar water is closest to flower nectar. The only red needed is the feeders and flowers or ornaments, etc. NOT the nectar. When feeding hummingbirds, please use only closed containers. They sell single cylinder feeders, they sell button feeders as well. Also, please don't use the red pre-made nectar or red food coloring. There's a Facebook page called Help Save Our Hummingbirds with information about red dyes. It's NOT good for hummingbirds. Too much red dye isn't healthy for humans!
I lived in Alaska for 23 years! Beautiful! But I has this same experience in Houston in my back yard. I had 6 feeders and so many humming birds. You could stand near the feeders and they would land on me and wait for their turn at the feeders. It was so awesome!
I find that amazing; those magnificently made creatures make a 2500 mile migration to/from Mexico and Alaska. That small bird. Incredible. Yeah I know butterflies do it too but this isn't about them. They're something else as well.
Michael Davis they need to redo the video using plain water and pure cane sugar at the ratio of water and sugar which is the closest constituent to flower nectar... 4 parts water to 1 part pure cane sugar. Dyes/food coloring is petroleum based and not even healthy for humans especially children and the elderly. The tiny hummingbirds cannot metabolize that crap they sell at the stores. That garbage and dyes cause kidney damage then kidney failure and a slow painful death. Also... hand feeding is a wonderful experience... As long as one uses a closed /covered container with a tiny hole and flower port. So many don't realize that If the sugar water gets on the feathers of the birds, it's too heavy and sticky. They cannot preen it off. Therefore it makes it hard for them to fly, in which they will succumb to hypothermia and eventually death.
Sir, if you wouldn't mind stepping over here for a minute, and following me... What's your name sir? Dragon Lord? We've received multiple complaints that you've been harassing members of the public...

Mixing audio with video is an art few seem to master.
Lmaoo. Oh, John. You are so cute.

It's annoying ; w ;
Beautiful and touching. Reminds me of trusting the Lord and feed on His hand.
Lovely ...
Not supposed to use that red bird nectar, make a mix of plain water and sugar.
Jennifer LaBove I had no idea! I’m so thankful I found this out before I buy myself a hummingbird feeder. I’ll be sure to remember this!
Tap water isn't good for ANY pet...
@@WadcaWymiaru i use my filtered figerator water or a water bottle
@@sugarrollz3524
Better to use limestone powder.
And I pray every year that I get more
賴先生的拍照昆蟲很好看ㄛ
這不是我拍的.這是從UA-cam分享的影片..

as an european, that is one thing i realy envy the americans, to be able to watch hummingbirds..... (well that and the gas prices :) )
this is precious
Birds are always beautiful...and hummingbirds and kingfisher are awesome...love them...
C.U.T.E thumbs up for you I love animals😀
This is beautiful! But... Just for next time remember that you should never actually put red food dye in your necter, allways put it in a red container, because red food dye is poisonous to hummingbirds.
I thought the red liquid was blood in the thumbnail.
EXACTLY, oh my days.
Good for you man.
Me too! I think we have a problem...
Can't believe it's been 10 years!!!
“The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder” 😭😭😭😭
I love how this is just one big commercial that's trying to brainwash you into thinking Alaska is the shit.
worked for me

I can't wait to move to Alaska. The lower 48 sucks
***** I'm moving to Alaska to be with my boyfriend
I've been to Alaska hundreds of times! It is paradise! 😎😎
I want to hand feed them! :D
your married to kristaffe
Leticia Guzman Kristoff. Yes. :)
+Hans Bjorgman wat I never knew that
+Hans Bjorgman wow
Wow..... very close 😍
I lived in Alaska for 23 years! Beautiful! But I has this same experience in Houston in my back yard. I had 6 feeders and so many humming birds. You could stand near the feeders and they would land on me and wait for their turn at the feeders. It was so awesome!
Beautiful birds. I'd trade these for those goddam grey squirrels that are terrorizing everything in my back yard anytime.
I thought maybe you’d forgot to put “with my Own Blood” in the title.
Please do NOT dye your food red like these goobers. It's very harmful to the birds.
Josh Garcia They did mention (disclaimer) that the use of red dye was no longer an acceptable practice.
+Amber George thank you for putting it so nicely
I find that amazing; those magnificently made creatures make a 2500 mile migration to/from Mexico and Alaska. That small bird. Incredible. Yeah I know butterflies do it too but this isn't about them. They're something else as well.
xD i thought that was blood i thought the person
was bleeding xD
So, why are there not more comments on the harm of red dye on this?
v warner Because the uploader wrote that they don't use it anymore. Why beat a dead horse?
The Narrator should shut up and let us hear the birds...
So cool. I love hummingbirds and have always wanted to visit alaska. It's hard to believe they migrate from Mexico.
Too bad they put red dye in the nectar, has some pretty bad side effects on the birds health.
Logafab DaModel what is the red dye exactly, isn't it some sort of caroten?
ghgjg hhxgh not sure, there are a bunch of ways you can dye it but none of its 100% safe
@Logafab DaModel ok
Why?
The only reason I clicked this video because I thought the bird was pecking a hand and making it bleed you know feeding hummingbirds hands…
LOL ME TOO
id get more hits titled "Blood sucking hummingbirds"
Yes, our blood is sweet so they CAN!
Many hot climate birds are licking big mamalians blood...
@@WadcaWymiaru i thought our blood was salty and tasted like metal....
WOW! That is so cool!
I never thought hummingbird would sit on our hands!
I looked at this video
i think that was a blood
It's for that new Vampire Hummingbird species :O
lol, scary.
Gang gang
me too Xd
helll noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo its nectar u idiot
Redo the video and edit out the talking
@@Bamabrat9171 you are awesome!☺
I'm disappointed, no blood eating hummingbird no good
Sir, if you wouldn't mind stepping over here for a minute, and following me... What's your name sir? Dragon Lord? We've received multiple complaints that you've been harassing members of the public...
