  • Our documentary shows a mother Allen's Hummingbird "Emerald" who hatched two tiny baby birds we named "Ruby" and "Sapphire" and fed them until they left the hummingbird nest after 27 days. The hummingbird babies being fed well so they grew fast. The baby hummingbirds outgrew their nest rapidly and this video will show you their growth from the time they hatched until they fledged the nest.
    🧾 Frequently Asked Questions
❓What camera are you using for this live stream?
Here is the link to our camera: amzn.to/3alaoh8
❓What species of hummingbird is this?
This is an Allen's Hummingbird which normally breeds on the West coast of the United States and Mexico, although the bird has been spotted in other areas of the southern United States.
❓Does this mother hummingbird have a name?
Yes! Our community named this mother hummingbird "Emerald."
❓When was the first and the second hatch?
The first egg hatched at 1:29pm on February 7.
The second egg hatched at 10:40am on February on February 8.
Did you miss the hatching of Emerald's babies? Don't worry, here's the video: • Mother Allen's Humming...
❓When do baby hummingbirds open their eyes?
It usually takes more than a week for a baby’s eyes to open. On average, a newborn’s eyes are open 9 days after he has hatched.
❓What day was the first hummingbird egg laid?
The first egg was laid on January 19 and the second on January 21.
❓How long will it take the baby hummingbirds to leave the nest?
The juvenile hummingbirds will fledge between 18 to 28 days after they hatched.
❓What is the nest made from?
The nest is made from grasses and small twigs filled in with soft and fluffy fiber that the mother hummingbird finds on fuzzy plants like seed pods, dandelion down, cottonwood and the like. The nest is held together with spider silk and is soft and spongy to accommodate the rapidly increasing size of the baby birds. To camouflage the nest she put paint chips on the outside to try to blend in with the house.
❓How can I help with the hummingbird nest building?
You can supply soft material for the mother hummingbird to use in her nest. You can buy nesting material for your hummingbird here: amzn.to/3qMImAM
❓Will the nest be used again?
This same location has been used for a few years. Hummingbirds often have two or three clutches per year, so when these babies fly away we might not be finished for the season!

I can't tell you how much I LOVE that I found your channel. I sit and watch hummingbirds all day on the covered front porch. Funny... I also have a few strings of tiny Christmas lites all around the porch. I've always loved hummingbirds!! My great uncle years ago was a saddle maker. I had waited my entire growing years to finally have one made. Only request I had was I wanted hummingbirds tooled on it. In the near 65 yrs of making saddles, this was his first hummingbirds request. I actually drew a picture of one in flight. That's what he put on my saddle. There are 15 (I think) on it. I'm so proud of him for doing this for me. Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe!! ♡♡♡

thank you for the videos they were amazing I had hummingbirds at my place up in Colorado several of them I was fortunate enough to live up at the top of the mountains where we had lots of berry bushes and in the spring the had lots of beautiful white flowers and we had lots of hummingbirds and I would watch the babies come up to the feeders with their parents I just love hummingbirds one time one flu inside my house and was trapped and then when I went over there to help it it was exhausted from trying to fly back through the window it just landed in my hand and laid still and I walked outside and stuck my hand up in the air and it just sat there for a few more seconds and flew off

Emerald’s nest building materials seem very similar to the hummingbird nests built in my yard in Panorama City, Calif. I had many in our garden over the years… made from soft spider webs with white paint chips reinforcing the outside. Our hummers remodeled & added on over the years so the nests became long & full. I loved them so very much & miss that whole delightful part of my life.

We have hosted hummers for the last 30 years. They must nest in our mature trees. My husband logs their return every year. In 2020, we saw the first one on April 24th. Our grandkids were also avid watchers. As they watched them chasing each other off of our feeder, they observed, “They aren’t very good at sharing are they?”😂
We have hosted many gatherings on our covered deck with hummers flying in and out in their evening feeding frenzies. They occasionally get stuck in our skylights. We gently pull them down and out with a small bamboo rake. They are almost like free range pets now. We love them.

yes its so funny how they wont eat at the same time usually , they are very territorial and the Only ones I have found that are more easy going here is Calliope especially the female, she will just sit there a while and other birds get tired of waiting there turn and come sit and drink also.
