And that's why though I do love him, at the same time I can't stand him. We are entitled to a zealous defense. Sometimes people can't work together, it's lives were talking about, and if I think an attorney is demonstrating a less than desired attitude or grasp, it's my right to change, and it has jack all to do with me or this guy having a law degree. There's no need for Judge S to act like an ass. I like him, but he's out of line here.

@@griffisjm Come on, Judge Simpson is trying to do him a favor. The judge isn't acting like an ass, he's conveying to the defendant that he's being a dumbass which is trying to help him. Cuz he knows, like we all know damn well, even if they replace that PD either another one, the guy will bitch and complain about the new PD too. And I disagree, if you are indigent you're not entitled to a zealous defense, you're entitled to a competent defense. Yes the PD will encourage him to take a plea deal because it's probably in his interest. The defendant is pissed cuz the PD isn't saying we'll fight this to the bitter end, we'll take it to the supreme court. If that's the kind of lawyer he wants, he should go hire Saul Goodman.

Why actually give them 30 and whatever comes with that if you can accomplish the same goal by doing everything up to giving them the 30? It's the difference between a parent that knows when time out will make things worse and when making a kid think they'll get time out will accomplish the goal.

Can you imagine standing at the podium, in jail-house duds, handcuffed, and you still think you know more than the attorney standing next to you?! Love Judge Simpson! Everyone gets the same treatment.

You have the right to AN attorney, but you don’t have the right to an attorney of your choosing, unless you are paying them yourself.
As for the third guy (trying to represent himself while facing multiple felony charges), Judge Simpson is always really fair and considerate in trying to make sure people that are uneducated or confused about the legal matters before them do get proper representation and assistance. I can’t believe how dumb that guy is being in denying a free service that could save him months to potentially years in jail…some people just have no damn sense.

Yes, back in the day we referred to it as "Perry Mason Syndrome": he almost never lost a case in 275 episodes in court. But that's fiction, people. Even innocent people usually need a good defense to avoid going to trial, where it may be a roll of the dice with a jury.
