    Alcoholism is a cruel master.

    • @timbirch4999
      @timbirch4999 2 місяці тому

Alcoholism is a disease. People who aren't alcoholics think that it's just weakness, or a moral failing, when it is actually a physical condition. Alcohol is a poison, and some people's bodies overreact to it such that it unbalanced their body the other way, so that they need to put more in to return to normal. Once they consume enough of it over time, the overreaction gets so serious that complete withdrawal of alcohol can cause seizures or even kill them.
I don't know what the DTs feel like, but I've had a couple of medications over time that caused problems with my nerves when I stopped taking them once I was better. It felt like all my nerves in my whole body had been dipped in vinegar. My whole body felt "sour" - to the point of it causing discomfort. It wasn't quite to the point of painful, but it still "hurt", constantly. And from what I understand, the DTs feel much worse than that.

It is not a popular thing to say ,but alcoholism is a psychological and physical addiction . To break any addiction one must find something to take its place . That is why Rehab or jail time doesn't have a higher success rate ; when people get out they have nothing with which to replace their addiction . AA is effective because it give those addict to alcohol an effective program to replace the thinking that cause them to drink .

It was against my parents religion to drink or smoke and I thank them every single day. If you've got kids, consider something like that. Our family was free from the terrible ills to which these vices lead. (Side note: my dad's brother wasn't so lucky. He was a heavy smoker and drinker. He died at age 50 of cirrhosis of the liver. Last time I saw him he looked pregnant with twins, his stomach was so distended. His son met a similar fate.)

this is a pristine image of addiction.
he knows it's maladaptive. he knows he's rationalizing. but he's too ashamed to reach out to his support system.
he knows it destroyed his marriage. he knows it's why he can't see his sons. but they're already gone, and he has to cope with that emotionally.
he knows it pickles your liver, dries you out, makes you sick. he knows he's putting himself and the world in danger getting this drunk all the time. he knows he's killing himself. but he is addicted to alcohol.
more specifically, his brain is dependent on alcohol. his brain will tell him whatever it needs to in order to get more alcohol.
"this is just to make your hands stop shaking. it's not like you're having fun. it doesn't count if you're being pragmatic. if you're being pragmatic, then any amount that you drink is just to handle the physical symptoms. this is all a part of the process."
he's not willingly lying here. he's being as sincere as he can be, this far into active addiction. it's just that if the only alcohol left on earth was at the bottom of the sea, his brain would convince him he could breathe underwater.
    he's sick.

Judge, you seem like a very wise and compassionate man. it does my heart good to see someone of your calibre representing our legal system, given all the nonsense that’s been going on in the legal system. Much respect to you, your honour.

One of my favorite Chris Stapleton songs is “whiskey and you” a line that fits this is where he said “I drink because I’m lonesome, and I’m lonesome cause I drink.” Him saying he doesn’t have a support system other than AA automatically made that pop in my head.

I'm so thankful that I'm past the part in my life that the defendant is currently going through, I was drinking at least a fifth a day every day, those first few months of sobriety were not fun,
I hope the defendant makes it

Cannot start and stop medications like that (I take Paxil, which is similar to Zoloft and Prozac)). A doctor would most certainly approve, if contacted. SSRIs are not nearly as bad as the older neurological medications.

Getting his primary care doctor to do a refill after treatment is very easy with his discharge paperwork. A doctor wouldn’t think twice about refilling it with a visit. It is not a controlled substance

Zoloft doesn't work until you get and maintain levels of the mediine in your blood stream.

But the gap was rehab expected the entry to the IOP program which might adjust doses etc. But he didn't go that route, so in his slip back to drinking he let taking Zoloft lapse, but ready for court he got new script and took one dose. We see him choosing the hidden path each time.

Zoloft is a non-narcotic. It can be given during an inpatient stay if depression is present. Weird that it would be prescribed after leaving as they begin treatment during inpatient.

      From what I understood:
he had been on the meds before rehab,
for whatever reason wasn't taking them in rehab (maybe it was some kind of "cleanse" or completely drug free rehab?),
then started back on them after rehab

@@benparker3224 That would be a huge mistake. Most suicides while being on prescribed medications occur when the person stops them suddenly. You have to taper off of SSRI’s or it sends them into a tailspin. Many folks stop them when they “feel better”.

I wish my daughter had a judge like this and wouldn't be on the streets still in her addiction. Thank God she doesn't drive. Honestly he's an awesome judge and good man all together to see what's really in front of him and how this man's life is worth saving. This was a very good call on the judge's perspective. God bless Judge Simpson.
