I grew up in Dublin. Went to same school as Phil and actually lived on the same street as drummer Brian Downey ( was in same class a few years ). Yes this is an excellent version on Whiskey in the Jar .
Happy Birthday Eric Bell born on September 3, 1947. He is a Northern Irish rock and blues musician, best known as a founding member and the original guitarist of the rock group Thin Lizzy from 1969 to 1973. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Bell#
this was in the days on TOPTP When you had to sing live, yet were allowed to use a backing track, as the boys are here.I loved Gary Moore & Scotty Gorram.Yet Eric Bells Guitar has its own signature that I kinda missed later on.
It's not so much that you were "allowed" to use taped instrumentation; the show wasn't really set up for live music. They barely squeaked by recording live vocals, which was a concession they made to musicians of the 1960s who refused to lipsynch.
I know it was common then, but I hate them using recorded music. At least Phil got to actually sing. That is why I love Beat Club/Music Laden and The Old Grey Whistle Test so much more.....actually played live.
now we have realised what is going on...how many stars have been murdered - and its all been covered up - we didnt know any better back then....we know now ..RIP TALENT
Absolutely! (I'm using my partners sign in) I lived for Friday or Saturday nights at the disco's or night clubs because the dance floor was full of such beauties who KNEW how to look and be feminine and dance so sexily that I and my mates couldn't resist dancing with them. Happy, wonderful times with music like this and so many others. All these years alter, without doubt the 70's were my best time. And yes, that girl and her friend make my heart race still!
mind the fuckin' way out and buy me a pint of porter and stand shit-faced 3 yards away from him and 'Sha ray dumma die' along with him, and nearly cry with his words- 'In my Molly 's chamber...'
I just can't stop listening to Phil. He was such a genius. Wonderful stuff, always.
Best rock band ever, Phil Lynott was a genius
You said right .I love this band and Philip's voice .
Saw these guys open for Queen in '77............and simply blew Queen away.
Wow, you're a lucky bastard!

The charisma of Phil Lynott..
A lively bit of music for when the night wears on and the tempo is ready to get serious
Nice line.
Amazing masterpiece of the beginning my life. I was 14 years in 1973 and will love this song end of my life.
Me, too. Born 1959.....
So much luck, to grow up with super music, not only TL.
Wow the genius of this band and Phil is as good as any Mozart or Van Gogh.
I just want to go back in time,71 Camaro six pack of beer hanging out down at the sand pits ,we were so cool

Thin Lizzy The Best .Always God Bless.
It sounds great, but it's missing the verse about shooting Capt. Farrell with both barrels.
could watch those two women dance all day.
I can still remember Brian Downeys drum solo it blew us all away!!
Esta musica es magica me transporta. Me olvido de todo
i think this version is best
great tune!
A great song and a great band. I remember vividly this song.
This is fucking awesome

anyone who says the metallica version is better than the original has problems
I think both versions are different and good in their own ways. This song has evolved soooo much since the 1600's ha.
but this is the one covered by metallica
Ed Med Rah and that version is the best.
👍 !
Yup, mental isues
AWESOMEiii!!!
Thank youu
Excellent.
rip phil
The woman dancing starting around 2:32 was awesome.

Ireland's best
just 12 years before phil died
When people used to dance to rock and roll! Now it seems you have to listen to crappy electronic stuff in order to dance.
Who is your favorite actress of the previous century? Hint: someone stole my stapler.
Aniston ?!
Did the karaoke of this song in August 2019.
Jon English had a similar voice to Phil lynott
What a shame drugs have Fxxxxd up so much talent too early.
