I was luckier lol I saw every home game he played for counties , I saw him come up thru rugby , Wesley college played pukekohe high school often , I was playing left wing in the same place same time as Jonah just only 21s club rugby, it was only $5 to entry into the counties stadium and you could stand just a few meters away from Jonah in action

im glad the players enjoyed the wellington sevens as much i did in the stands. Truely a weekend to remember especially the year Victor Vito burst onto the scene.
I work with Afaato Sooalo and some of the stories he has told me about going up against Lomu would make most men run away. Afaato Sooalo took Lomu on head on and Afaato wasn't big in height but he was strong and so solid and has a lions heart. Still today he is solid as and one of the nicest human beings on the planet. So humble and polite.
A friend of mine had a similar experience. He turned up for a social game of corporate league rugby in Johannesburg, only to find his opponent was Ray Mordt, just back from playing league. He says that Mordt at least had the grace to run around of him instead of just through him!
LOL most big guys do. I was once the last defender and a 6’5 110 kg forward was running full speed at me, then at the last minute he just ran around me instead of through me…
Awesome tale! I don't quite understand the title though - if given the opportunity to go up against the best - Don't be afraid, Be fearless Best chance you'll have to beat them.

I was lucky to see Jonah play For counties against Canterbury here in Christchurch and man what a site! I’ll never forget it

Wow Afato was a legend. Probably the smallest winger back then but omg the side step and speed he had was crazy
NZ Commentator Murray Mex: Jonah Lomu & Afato So’oalo the battle between David & Goliath
He was little speedy winger. Ran around his countryman, Brian Lima in the NPC.
Afaato was a real life Energizer battery
wonderful player for the Crusaders

South Africa loved the challenge of playing against him. Their defense went into overdrive and they never let him score a single try against them.
There was a interview where the old Springboks players was saying they put him off by squeezing his testical in rucks 😆
And yet Jonah Lomu still demolished the springboks like everyone else.

Its like playing a south african forward playing on the wing , if that was to have happend would be a totaly different yarn .
