South America isn’t hosting a World Cup in 2031. The USA is. But World Rugby will never convince NFL fans to switch to rugby. They would get more value if they spent money on junior rugby in Canada and the US, creating new players and RWC spectators.

NFL is a highly specialised sport. Every player only needs to do a couple of things very well. But rugby 7s is totally different. Every player on the pitch must be quick, agile, jump high, tackle, have good ball handling skills, stamina and endurance. In a one on one test like straight line speed, the best NFL players win hands down. But straight line speed isn't good enough in rugby. You need to be agile, switch directions quickly, decelerate and accelerate instantaneously, and after that, make big tackles and lift up a teammate to catch high balls (or in lineouts in 15s), and run non-stop for the entire game. I would say that the 7s player would be a better all round athlete. It's just the nature of the sport. Both sports are just different.

The rugby players can do very well at combine tests but the huge problem is they don’t know the game. American kids grow up watching and learning the game, as they get older they specialise in positions and know the plays inside out because of years of repetition. By the time they finish college, they’ll have been playing for at least 10 years! Yes the rugby players can learn plays but what about when the play breaks down and they haven’t got the years of experience to fall back on. It would take a season just to catch up on the lingo lol Oh I’m British and love rugby but they wouldn’t stand a chance in the NFL.

Sound advice. Although in most rugby centric nations like South Africa and New Zealand we start playing from primary school, 6/7 years befre the RWC is still decent time for some college student talents to get into the game. After the RWC, world rugby should not let the momentum subside and should start promoting rugby to children similar to the NFL. Unfortunately, I think the draw for the NFL is greater due to finances but i still think the 2 sports can find a way to exist side by side

International rugby stars have been playing rugby all their lives and know the nuances of the game and the rules of the game. American football stars have been playing football all their lives and know the nuances and rules of the game. There may be a time when a football star can make the 1st 15 of a top rugby union, or league club. There may be a time when a rugby star can make a starting 11 on offense, or defense on a NFL club. Now, neither can. Rugby is the father of American football and the United States is still the two time defending Olympic gold medalists in full squad rugby. I believe American football wants to keep rugby down though, knowing it's a threat to their dominance in America. I rest my case.
