Lomu introduced Rugby to millions globally
He crushed me when he singlehandedly beat England... and I cried when he died.
@@DominicPannell competed against in u18 decathlon...he was quick and strong.... couldnt jump very high but god he was strong
@@danfloros4267 I have a horrible memory frpm 1995 when Jonah (long may he be remembered) destroyed Rory Underwood and then did the same to the rest of the England team. He was truly awesome and changed the nature of the game. A legend.
The chicken population breathed a massive sigh of relief when he died! What a legend Jonah was!!!
He couldn't do it with the Boks in 95...James Small brought him down! 15_12 🙆🙆🙆🙆🙆
I am Mexican and in my country the RUGBY is not known only soccer and American football. I watched this match live on cable and since then I became a RUGBY fan. So much so that I play it in amateur form with Argentines, Canadians, Americans, Japanese, Brazilians, Austrians, French and everything in my country. The RUGBY is definitely universal. THANK YOU for uploading this important video for me. LONG LIVE THE RUGBY
Keep it up bro
Start team Mexico!
I heard there are some really loyal enthusiastic teams in some of the bigger Cities there. Welcome mate

Orale guey!
Can’t believe he’s no more. May his soul rest in peace Lomu
What a video! No bullshit music and unnecessary personal commentary. Just the magical footage. I love you man
Totally agree keep posting
Justin marshall is annoying as a player n commentator
Lomu, the greatest rugby player of all time bar none. And the most exciting. I say that as an England supporter who watched in stunned disbelief as Lomu scored 4 tries against England in the semi final of the World Cup in 1995.
Never before or since Lomu retired have I seen a player with his power, pace, handling ability, who could side step beautifully off either foot and most impressively, his outstanding rugby intelligence. A man who always played for the team.
He will always be remembered fondly as long as this game is played.
Your right he should be remembered for being a team player ,
There have been many imitators. There is only one genuine article.
The mj of rugby
Nah. Richie McCaw player and Capt.
...no question Lomu was legendary and a great player, but far from the best player of all time. There have been some stunning all-round players that rate higher as overall best. That's not to take away from the big man but things need to be kept a bit real.
I love how right after the announcer says "Larkham with great hands" Larkham butterfingers the catch.
To see jonah lomu in full flight what an absolutely amazing player he was, taken far to early legend

No he wasn't taken early he did what god wanted him to do which was to take rugby globally and God took him back again

All these years later this is still the greatest game of rugby i've ever seen.
I’m an American, and I find this more entertaining than American football.
It's called NFL not football, football is a completely different thing
@@devoeditz1 The NFL is a league, not a sport. And yes, it's called American football outside of the US, as opposed to just football. You might wanna make sure you're right before correcting someone.
@@fernandoerbin6751 Oh no! Oops 😬, It looks like I don't care! Everyone outside of the US calls "soccer" football. Only Dumbericans call it soccer
I remember watching this game with my Whanau, live on TV.
What an awesome display of running rugby, this is how rugby is supposed to be played.
Both teams made this one of the greatest games in rugby history.
Jonah Lomu, Tana Umaga, Christian Cullen, George Gregan, Stephen Larkham, Stirling Mortlock...great names from a golden era.
Wow a lot of great Aussie greats in this team. A period of time when Aussie rugby were up there at the top and us Kiwis also held them in high regard.
That was a impressive Wallaby Team and that back line was quite spectacular and always gave the All Blacks problems. Stephen Larkham is a beast. I hated when he got the ball because he was so unpredictable. And when you have one of the strongest halfbacks in the game feeding you.
@@kenmckinley1526 I'll say mate, that Gregan/Larkham combination caused us some real problems.
I was in the crowd that night best night ever !
If they televised rugby games in the U.S. I would definitely be a rugby fan.

A really brilliant game. Well played by both sides. And with Lomu on your side, how to lose?! The joy he brought to fans worldwide! May his Soul RIP
Of course Lomu is known for his fearsome attacking runs, but that pass he got off was absolutely incredible! It doesn't get the credit it deserved!
At that time the Tri Nations was like watching the NBA or the BPL. The level was so high and Australia vs NZ was the the equivalent of Brazil-Argentina in football.
A GREAT game, possibly the greatest ever, I was fortunate enough to be there, I can still feel my heart sink with the last try by the great man lomu. But our hearts broke when Lomu passed away.
All teams were better because of the great winger Lomu.
I was there too, people actually started to leave 8 mins in when Australia were down 24-0, didn’t want to see them lose by 100. My dad was with me and he is kiwi(I’m Aussie). Probably the greatest sporting event of all time and I’ve been to all of them including superbowls and ringside at championship fights. Was no loser that day, rugby won
The Aussies we're notorious comeback kings an I had no doubt of them being back in the game. A lot of Rugby Greats in this game. RIP JONAH!

I remember touring the garden route of south africa as a young man....then waking up early to watch this game with my friends......we were in awe at the level of rugby in this game.......as south african supporters we were always supporting the team that was losing and it changed so many times in the match .....one of the greatest games ever for sure! a day that lives in my memory forever
Watching this thinking "wow, the game has changed so much and so quickly", then realised it was 20 years ago. Now I feel old...
No kidding... same here
It's like they're playing on fast forward setting!
Just think if we had todays laws then what would the score be I think game of penalties for high tackles off side and all, great match wish we could see this these days now it is all kick
It was better then.
The shirts are hilariously big... 😂
As a Springbok supporter, I must say Lomu scared us the most Especially when he flattened Michael Catt in the 95 RWC...RIP Jona, Joost, James Small you are giants in this beautiful game. New Zealand and all the other Nations, we love to hate you but with out there is no game.
Well.said man.
Go low go hard and take out the Legs they all go down - great player - keep your head out of the way and go in with your shoulder
All Catt need to do in that tackle is grab his legs and hold on
The standard in this match was next level. High octane stuff from start to finish between the best teams from that era. Probably Australia's greatest ever lineup or depth of talent. First 30 mins was just incredible stuff.
The level of rugby played in this match has never been surpassed. What a game!
How sad we have to go back 22 years to see a quality Wallaby’s side… Real men, fighters, typical Aussies of that era… Epic game, may Jonah Rest in Peace 🙏🏻
They have made two World Cup finals in the 22 years since this match?
Yes the 90s and early 2000s was Australias golden era
@@themoops811 How many Bledisloe’s they have won, would be a better yardstick
@@byza101 Exactly one team has won consecutive matches against NZ in a series since then. NZ are just better than everyone, unfortunately
And a great wallabies side it was, led by captain Jon Eels along with the likes of Gregan. The key difference was leadership. Both teams had great players, the all blacks at the time had a leadership crisis and didn't know how to address it, hence they picked an inspirational leader in his own rights, Todd Blackadder, but a fairly mediocre player who wasn't considered good enough to be an all black. Wind the clock forward and you'd have Ritchie MacCaw and co of the all blacks, or wind it back you'd have Sean Fitzpatrick (and Zinzan) leading the field. SInce then it seems the wallabies just don't have either the players or the leaders.
The days when the winning team didn't just kick it into touch when the clock had run down. Impressive stuff.
I dont undersantd why when wallabies kicked into touch at minute 41 of the the 2nd hald the match didnt end
I remember Lionel Beauxis "missing" his kick at the 82' minute during a France-England couple of years ago. I almost had a strock, but we ended up victorious.
@@mateozorraquin193 yeah it’s strange coz the commentator says at 42 mins that there is 3 mins to go! And the hooter goes at 45 mins!!

was there.. traffic caused us late arrival, remembering hearing the crowd go crazy as we climbed up thru the bowels to our seats.... wtf, 3 tries in 5 minutes... what an amazing game we saw...
Jealous!
Flew in from NZ the night before, landed, went to the pub, got to hotel at some ungodly hour, breakfast, then to the pub, Then the game, what a game it was, then to the pub, then to the hotel to get my bag for flight home. Didn't sleep in the hotel at all. Loved every minute of it, including the whopping hangover on the flight home.
For me, a life-long rugby fan, Jonah Lomu will go down in history as possibly the greatest rugby player ever. For a sports player like him to die of a heart attack at the age of 40 is completely insane!! RIP big man!!
Such an epic match!
From the venue. The ref. The players. The coaches. So many legends
I was lucky to be there on the night. Amazing atmosphere. And even though we lost, there was almost disbelief by both Aussie and Kiwi supporters alike at what we had just witnessed. The train back to the city from the stadium was an experience in itself, hakas, anthems, smiles galore, rugby!
We didnt lose tho (-:
I was at that game with my dad. I’m Aussie and he is Kiwi. It was the greatest thing we both had seen
I was there. Never seen a crowd so happy after a loss. We knew we had all seen something special :)
Never seen a such quality of game.

First time watching a rugby match! Wow!! So much power!!!
The best rugby match I have ever seen
Ever since my parents first showed me rugby I've been a rugby fan in Both league and union. ever since i've loved the sport rugby 🏉
It was most definitely a special one. In terms of greatest, for a roller coaster ride yes although the parameters are too varied and subjective to give it to one game. One of the greatest.
4:54 Can't stop watching that over and over again. What a beauty.
absolutely true!!... Bledisloe 2000 was just epic from this match to the third match where John Eales kicked the winning penalty
Larkham was a rugby genius.
Christian Cullen was the greatest AB of that era. One of the greatest of all time
This is the first time in my life ive seen a rugby match and loved it
Watch Canterbury v Auckland, match of the century
That scrumhalf from the Aussies was Intelligent. brilliant performance .
The Wallabies were a great team back then and whooped NZ's butts so many times for years. One of the very best teams in history. Nowadays they simply don't have the players that compare to the likes of Larkham, Gregan, Eales, Roff, Kefu, Latham, and Mortlock. Look at how they come back from 21 points down in the first five minutes - that shows the typical attitude of a group of Aussie fighters that didn't give up. Respect from a NZ fan.
But other countries have their eras too but NZ inevitably will always regain the upper hand eventually and dominate again.
Actually they didn't Whoop our butts many times. They would generally beat us once a year during the Tri nations, after they won the Bledisloe Cup they changed it to a 2 game format. Have to win both to win the cup. Sadly it was always 50/50 split.
However, it has been 17 years since Australia has last held it, at the end of 2020 it will be 18. The All Blacks and Australia have met 165 times. During that time Australia has won 44. There have been 7 draws, And New Zealand have won 114 Times. Australia hasn't beaten the All Blacks at Eden park in 33 years. At world cups Australia have beaten the All Blacks twice in Semis. The All Blacks have beaten the Australians twice too. Semi and Final. So be careful about who is whooping who.
The BEST match ever was there and mind blown! Aussie supporter as well
Please remember we never, repeat never seen Lomu at his full 100% heath. He was a freak! Bless him for his pure human ability
Tom Smyth so true
@incogneto the disease that plagued him held him at around 80% fitness throughout his prime. Its quite well documented.
Dont agree repeat dont agree. The onset of his specific disease in 90 pct of cases is mild with few side effects if any. Few side effects if any. Later years maybe worse. Later years maybe worse. I repeat...
Lomu was at his peak

I remember this game VERY Well.. hadn't long moved from NZ to Sydney Australia in 2000. A group of Kiwis & Ozzi's hanging out together at local Sydney Pub watching the game on Big Screen TV...

Rugby was the most amazing team sport when Lomu was playing on the field. Now Rugby is a boring sport.
@@lambertlambert7076 yes , I really see your point, its not the same flowing rugby as before. Its more bang, crash. start again, bang crash...etc. More league. but its still an amazing spectacle and the sheer guts of the players are still there. So I still love it.

This is regarded as the best ever Rugby Game and I would agree with it. The best ever World Cup final was the 2015 RWC final between the same teams, both teams played positive, open rugby.
Yes and NZ won both
Lomu a legend ,why ?
Because every Rugby fan around the world cried when he passed away :(
You don't see hands like that these days! The passing and interchange is unbelievable!
I think that's down to a massive improvement in defence over the last decade, rather than a lack of skill in attack. Looking back now I'm genuinely shocked by some of the shambolic defending in this match, and these were the two best teams in the world at the time!
Points result ok NZ. Real result: Heroic battle. As a kiwi - all good. But what is truly more important is the TITANIC STRUGGLE. Thank you so much to the players. Even after all these years (2021) the physical commitment remains awe inspiring.

George Gregan was a machine for Australia. Probably my favourite Aussie player of those times.
Back in the era when Australia versus New Zealand was magnificent Rugby. Australia lost that greatness when the players started spending more time at the hairdresser than on the training paddock.

Don't be fooled by the intense rivalry. Australia and New Zealand are closer than any other two nations on Earth. ANZAC brothers and sisters who will do anything for each other. On a population basis, New Zealand is by far the most successful sporting nation on Earth.

For years Lomu was sick even in this game he wasn't 100% felt sorry for the dude but then again he didn't speak out in his early career days about signs of his health this could have been treated and we would of still had a legend living. NZRU should had a statue of him outside Eden park 🥇. Will never see another rugby player in top level international, steam rolling 2 or more players then out pace the rest. Miss you Jonah!
Big Jonah.
It happened I met him in 2011.
Great champ.
That Larkham pass at 4:55 is one of the best passes you will ever see. Doesn’t seem like much but to break free and at full speed throw a dime like that on point with larkham hitting without slowing down is amazing. Larkham one of the most under rated players of all time. When Australia could compete and even beat the all blacks year after year rugby was at its best. Australian rugby has gone down big time past 12 years and rugby suffers for it
