How to open Lincoln MKT 2010 liftgate manually, if electronic doesn’t work?

A nice idea for sure. Trouble is I have a hitch installed, and whenever I try to hitch something up and attach the safety chains, the liftgate tries to hit me in the head. It only got me the first time, but it is a bit annoying. Knowing specifically what to avoid may help, but I still have to hook up the safety chains.

I have 2016 MKX. I was disappointed when I found out it doesn't have power liftgate.
