jerry: "mammal"
george the marine biologist: "whatever"
the sea was angry that day my friends
I got about 50 feet out when suddenly, the great beast appeared before me.
I tell you he was 10 stories high if he was a foot!
I said eaaasyyy big fellow.
And then as i watched him struggling i realized something was obstructing his breathing
From where I was standing I could see directly into the eye of the great fish...
Jerry: Mammal.
Whatever.
Well...Well...What did you do next?
Well then, out of nowhere, a Huge tidal wave lifted me. Tossed me like a cork, and I found myself right on top of him, face to face with the blow-hole.
George's performance, from 1:00 onwards, deserved an Emmy.
very unfortunate how this man was nominated like 4 times didn't win a single one
Yeah, but he F'ed it all up when he pulled out the golf ball and almost laughed.
Him
..j8
+jean moreno I thought he kept a remarkably straight face at that point, considering how damn funny it was.
Fulahno He always lost to Michael Richards.
if you listen to the commentary tracks for this episode on the DVDs, Larry David talks about how the audience during this recording laughed so loudly and for so long, the sound guys actually had to edit down the duration of the laughter in order to make it suitable for broadcast.
Man i love that, I came here from people talking about laugh tracks, so its cool to find out that some times they gotta be cut down, lmao
Not only that, but George's monologue wasn't part of the original script. The episode basically ended with George saving the whale and that was it. They knew it was kind of a meh ending, so while they were filming the final scenes, Larry David sat down with a pen and pad and started writing "The sea was angry that day my friends...". this according to Jason Alexander anyways
@@mooseclamps yeah, apparently he banged that whole scene during the taping while the audience waited, it was their only take and JA had to learn a page of new material in about 10 mins.
Kramer’s expressions at the end are brilliant. A real actor
samderrida
What’s brilliant is that one woman shrieking into the as George pulls out the titleist.
Gold, Jerry...gold.
“A hole in one!”
He looks so sheepish😂🤣😂
He wasn’t even an actor. Was a stand up and sketch comedian. Never trained in acting. Which makes him even better
My favorite Seinfeld episode. An injustice that Jason Alexander was the only one of the four main actors who didn’t receive an Emmy.
It would be out of character for him to win something
How TF did julia Dreyfus win an Emmy? She's more boring than Seinfeld
@@alvarortega01 so are you. Only yur more like Julia Dreyfus, unfunny
@@ernestkhalimov7407 she's not awful, she adds an amazing glow to the whole show, but in comparison to Jason, it's so not correct that he doesn't get an award
Apparently they dropped this on him the day of shooting, no rehearsal.
*The sea was angry that day my friends...like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli* This may be the best Seinfeld line ever... here's to feeling good all the time.
But, but, but these pretzels are making me thirsty!!!!
Now I'm just imagining Morty Seinfeld or Frank Costanza, or even Uncle Leo, in that very position.
Who else thought that Kramers reaction at the end is priceless
This scene is pure genius. George storytelling, Elaine breaking character trying not to laugh, Kramer face after George shows the golfball and the “hole in one, hum?”.
This was the worst episode not funny at all I also hate the one where Jerry and Elaine have sex just awful. I love just about every ep. otherwise
And Jerry's persistence correcting George
Fun fact: Jason Alexander learned his whale speech right before preforming it in one take. Jason is apparently a pretty quick study with a professional drama background.
I'm not sure he did it in one take. Check Elaine's arm position in 1:33 and 1:34...
And this speech was written the night before by Jerry and Larry David. Jason got it on the first take, no rehearsal- Jerry said the look on his face was amazement at how well Jason was doing. (also in the extras on the dvd)
@@pbs2 you do reshoots for different angles. I see what you're saying. But the big deal here is the audience reaction for it being the first time they heard it. And by saying one take it also means he nailed it the first try. Doesn't mean he didn't do it again.
Watched Jason Alexander explain this episode and how the ending was never rehearsed... True great actor.
The first time i saw this , I couldn't stop laughing when Costanza pulled the golf ball out. The short pause and Kramer's reaction killed me.
One of the best TV moments ever. We are all George Costanza
When he throws his hat down I lose it every time😂
Jason read this monologue once, then performed it once for an audience and then for the taping, and this is the take, what a great actor I must say.
Kramer's body language in this skit is hilarious!
What a masterpiece in story telling. Alexander at his finest.
Is anyone here a Marine Biologist? LMAO
Edward Finley nah I decided to become an architect instead
I'm Art Vandelay.
Let's go blues
sadly missing from this clip, the best part
Fun fact - That was Larry David himself who said that line.
The humour in this scene is how far George is willing to go to support his lie.
Damn this is some peak comedy. Imagine having the creativity to think up these hilarious situations and having the perfect cast to pull them off. That's some talent.
George: "...like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli."
Elaine thinking "What?"
Jerry thinking "It's not like that at all."
Kramer having PTSD from his last soup encounter in a deli.
I could see into the eye of the great fish....
Mammal
... whatever!
This was the best moment in TV sitcom history.
"I could see directly into the eye of the great fish." "Mammal." "Whatever." LOL
Seinfeld said on some show that he thought that "The Marine Biologist" was the best episode of all.
Jason Alexander said that they first had the episode ending with him going ino the Water. They came up with the story at the set and Jason learn it all in about 10 minutes or so....
He read it once, they shot it once, and that was it.
Wow. And this story MADE that episode.
One of the biggest laughs of the series when George revealed the golf ball! 😂
1:30 julia is just ready to burst into laughter
yeah they clearly had to redo the scene, that's why she's in a different pose in the next shot.
@@TheBestCommenterEVER let me take one more look at 1:30
*I SAID EASY BIG FELLA*
George's most heroic moment, walking into the sea a liar.
Marine biologist or architect we love you Georgy! What a silliquoy lol very similar to Kramers bus story lol
That burst of laughter at 2:05 tho!! LMAO
That woman lol
that look on Kramer’s face at the end😂
My favorite clip from Seinfeld. Storytelling at its best!
That blank stare from Kramer once George pulls out the golf ball from his pocket LMAO
This is one of the greatest story telling scenes in the history of sitcom!
Hands down one of the best episodes of any show, ever
The ocean called, and it was angry that day my friends
The sea was angry my friends....like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli
This and Kramer's Bus Story...the best!
Just about every line is comedy gold.
They all knew how important it was to get this scene right the first time. Because of that they created the greatest moment in a sitcom ever.
A lady yelped when he pulled out the ball.
The way Elaine looks at him 1:11 is just so perfect as if saying, I forgot who I was listening to.
Hands down my favorite Seinfeld moment.
Kramer's reaction gets me every time. lol
All the while, people in the background keep minding their business and did.not.flinch.ONCE. I would have died when he said EASYYY, BIG FELLA 🤣
The best comedy scene ever! Written the night before!
"A ball of one in a golf course area" 😂
The old man and the sea is showing through
Only the great George Costanza could go into the ocean and save a whale.
In the thumbnail I thought George was Radar from MASH for a split second. With that hat on he's a spitting image.
God I loved this scene, pure gold
About the best scene ever in seinfeld. And there was a TON of phenomenal ones.
is there a marine biologist😂😂😂
He was 10 stories high if he was a foot!
Krypt Sanies what does this expression mean?
@@messi10nash13 It's like a fishing-story-exaggeration, as in: "I tell you: he was ENORMOUS, this fish!"
I think it is short for: "the fact that he was ten floors tall, is as true as if I told you he was a foot" (something you easily would believe)
*afoot
The word is afoot* he just means he was ten stories tall if he was upright.
I thought it meant the creature was ten stories high and he was a foot.
I can’t believe that they have managed to shoot this scene! I would have pissed myself out of laughter.
One of the funniest endings ever.
Quick is anyone a marine biologist 😂
"a hole in one"
unparalleled
always wonder if Kramer didnt know the gulf ball is coming out or not ... if he didnt know, that's great improvise LOL
Yes, Kramers bus story was also great!
I wonder where that came from! lol "A hole in one?" ;)
***** I know, it was sarcasm
SeinfeldJokes thanks for saying it because I didn't know what he meant by titleist
This video needs to be in museums. The world isn’t right until it is.
So great
Legendary
Very best episode.
Utterly hysterically funny
Iconic Seinfeld scene! 💯🐳
George :“So I reach in and felt around and pulled out the obstruction!” Kramers’ facial Guilt reaction!!!
Kramer: “Is that a Titleist?”........“A hole in one."
Not that there's anything wrong with that
most hilarious clip in all of tv history
Krame with the 1000 yard stare... remembering
My favorite bit: "And as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I- I don't know if it was divine intervention or the _kinship_ of all living things, but I _tell_ you, Jerry, at THAT moment, I _was_ a marine biologist!" BTW, when I was a kid finding used golf balls, I thought Titleist was a German company pronounced "tit-lighst"; took me a long time to realize it was "tigh-tul-ist". 😊
Great comedy!
It can’t be funnier than this.
Where do they come up with these stories funny as hell
the writers must play a lot of golf. they're well rehearsed in ball manufacturing company names.
If they are in the East coast New-York, who could the sun be setting over the Atlantic!?
I get Titleist spam emails lol
0:43 "At that moment, I was a marine biologist." Yet another job that George is utterly unqualified for...
There's an article that says this is Jerry's favorite part of the series.
2:11 Lol
Funny that there’s no clip on UA-cam where someone from the crowd asks; Is anyone here a marine biologist.
Even if it's by accident Kramer always seems to cause trouble
Kramer say hole in one :)
more like Blowhole In One
*ITS THE ORB OF TITLEIST*
Is anyone here a Marine Biologist?! 😂😂
Thumbnail pic George looks just like Radar from MASH
"Is anyone here a marine biologist?!"
No dislikes, let’s keep it that way people!
Because of your comment I was going to "dislike" it out of spite, but 10 people beat me to it. They probably all did it after looking at your lame comment.
@@not-so-smartaleck8987 get over yourself jackass
It is unfortunate that Emmy could not meet Jason Alexander. I hope the Emmy awards try to upgrade to the higher levels.
Had Jerry just told the "it" girl that George was an Architect none of this would have happened.
Classic!🤣🤣🤣
2nd biggest laugh of the series.
At that moment I was a marine biologist
Even though I always wanted to be an architect.
Kramer has the look of a dog who just got busted 2:11
at 1:17 someone in the audience burps really hard
not really
thats right
LOL, good catch.
Omg!
I heard a low-level weird sound, but it could've been anything--saying it was a loud burp is a stretch.
Richards was perfect.
Eeeeeeasy big fella!
