The way Kramer replies to Elaine "not every day" mouth filled up is absolutely genius. Writers were so talented
That came spontaneous from him. It wasn’t in the script
Yeah, well, it's ok 😮
I love that line 🤣
i guarantee that was an innovation by richards. writers lol
@@grawakendream8980 I have the collector coffee table edition DVD set, not a single mention about this in the commentaries.
Well you know, I barely don't care.
Btw Larry and Jerry wrote mostly all the material, so I guess your "lol" is about them. You sound like a character from the show : Mike.
They handled this topic so maturely and sensitively , yet still made it hilarious. Brilliant writing.
it's 40 percent writing and 60 percent acting.
@@PretentiousStuff I'd say it's more 50/50.

Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Cosmo Kramer, and Elaine Benes organize the first annual No Nut November (circa 1992)
The actual name of the episode is Vie for self denial but most remember it as The contest
Funny thing is this episode actually aired in November 1992. Look it up
Year and Month I was born.
Baeagon I don’t mind private bets, but don’t make the whole NNN mandatory to the public
And fail miserably 😂
The way Jason Alexander impersonates George's mother is hilarious!!!!
His mom is great to impersonate. RIP Estelle Harris.
“Why George, why?”
“Because it’s there.”
😂
Milfeulle100 lol
George Mallory
I used to think that by "it", he meant the Glamour magazine, but now I'm thinking it's something else! lol
Such an oddly philosophical answer.
@@i.hold.vertigo2329 right?
Elaine: "I shave my legs"
Kramer: "...Not everyday."
Tru.
The way Kramer says it too always gets me
That was the most clever thing Kramer could've said at that moment. LOL!
😂😂😂😂
2:37
who jerks off every day lol its crazy
I've seen this so many times, but I still laugh when Jerry says to Kramer "you'll be out before we get the check!" 😂😂😂
Elaine's laugh while George is talking about his mother always gets me😂
SHE’S IN TRACTION
I'm pretty sure Jason's "It's not FUNNY, Elaine" was unscripted.
@@tkinsey3 Exactly! You know it took them like 10 takes to patch this thing together with all her laughing.
"You ? You'll be out before we get the check !"
They were right.

George Roy lol
ScaF They? Don't you mean he?
Maybe best written scene in all of TV history. Along with, “the seas were angry that day my friends.”
Safe Sailing
When he is telling the story about the "big fish"...
"_ Mammal."
"_ Whatever."
A hole in one
Like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli
Summer of George is up there too.
What’s so great about the writing in this scene? Just cause they never use the word masturbation?
Funny story. The day after this episode aired, my wife and I were at a Sizzlers on Wilshire Blvd. There at 4 in the afternoon was Jason Alexander at the salad bar. The show at that time was still on Wednesday and it's ratings were in the 30s. So he could still marginally engage in normal activity.
We gushed about how much we loved the show and how amazed we were that they let the episode air. He was very nice and said that they too were shocked that they got away with it.
They said it without saying it
Jason seems like a lovely human being,
Jason Alexander went to a Sizzlers???
Glamour???
what sizzler is there on wilshre? get the fuck out of here.
@ZeldafanNr2 I thought it was an interesting story. So I shared. I note that lots of people do that on UA-cam videos. Sorry that you do not approve. I can't help but ponder what your life story is that you would pist such a comment, but I can speculate that it involves a basement, poverty and lots of fantasies.
Good luck.
Another reason why George Costanza is one of the greatest sitcom characters of all time.
He definitely is. He was always my fav.
Jason Alexander was brilliant and I think somewhat underrated as a comedic actor.
Seriously miss when TV was bold enough to have a show thrive on a brilliant script. Some of the best Seinfeld moments were nothing more than a long conversation.
RedYellow Blue
This one is one of the most brilliant script of the show.
Was all about masturbating, making fun of the subject, but letting clear that is a natural activity for men and women.
But the magic touch is that there's any mention of the word "masturbation" or anything sexual, but they use a lot of expressions not related at all to sex to say something sexual, and you get it, and it's fun.
Genius.
I think Golden Girls was the same. Despite most of the trio's conversations revolving around sexual relations, they _never_ used the trigger words and danced through the topics with such grace that we knew _exactly_ what they were talking about, without them saying a straight word.
The sheer beauty of subtle scriptwriting.
@@DIZAZZO they only danced around it because they couldn't mention outright on TV.
Check out succession
Couldn’t have said it better I don’t get why people don’t get the massive genius of Seinfeld, it’s like every moment was the same but different at the same time all based on dialogue, that’s life
The second time Jerry says “Glamour”???? Is to me the best part of a truly classic scene
1:36 🤣
Kramer’s “not every day” was delivered perfectly
Probably the best episode of the series. I don't think you can argue it. Its just too famous.
1:18 "It's not funny, Elaine" was not in the script... LOL
That laugh was way too genuine. Julia was breaking.
Yep she was.
You can also tell by the smile from Jerry
Jason was too funny! Julia is always the one laughing in the bloopers
memoryhero
And that is what makes the scene even funnier.
Elaine's acting is on another level. She's the master of acting IMO
She was not acting.
So fuckin annoying
"I go out forah quart of milk and I come back to my son treating his body like an amusement pahk"
"Ma!"
He always did a great impression of his mom.
@@jeffreese5977
Estelle: Don't give me "Ma". It's a good thing I didn't hit the table. I could of cracked my head open.
George: Ma, people can hear you.
Estelle: (Heavy in sarcasm) Too bad you can't do that for a living. You'd be very successful at it. You could sell out Madison Square Garden. Thousands of people could watch you! You could be a big star!
George: (Getting up) Alright, Ma, that's enough!
Estelle: I want you to go see a psychiatrist.
George: No! I am not going to see a psychiatrist!
Estelle: Why? Why not?! Why won't you go?
George: (Like a kid) Because I don't want to.
Estelle: I want you to go see somebody.
George: Well, I am not going.
Estelle: It's a good thing your father's in Chicago.
Larry David recently said this was his favorite episode of all time. He said if NBC refused to air it he was ready to pack the whole show up.
One of the best scenes in the show, shows the brotherhood between them in raw. Love it
One of my fawourite moments on the show is when kramer comes in and hits the 100 dollar bill on the table
Amplitude Maximum ...and yells “I’M OUT!!”
I like how Kramer says “not everyday“
I watched this episode with my parents, and boy was it awkward.
LMAO!
reminds me of a true story and just as awkward. I took a trip to visit my parents and my Father went to the video store to rent a dvd and didn't know what to get so asked the person working there for a suggestion. The clerk asked my Father how old I was and at the time I was 40 so recommended the 40 Year Old Virgin comedy. Very awkward viewing....
Goodness! How old are you? lol
@@sappygirl1955 60 and it was still awkward. Lol. It's a joke...he could be in his 20's and it still be awkward.
Lmao 😂
One of the most brilliant scenes in tv history
seems to me that during George explanation the other three were smiling and laughing for real and not acting..looked very genuine as George delivered some of his best lines during the whole show in this scene..
It seems like maybe it was improvised. Perhaps. And thats why they were laughing like that.
@Naveen KV u:
I doubt any of it was improvised but it does show how Jason Alexander is the best actor in the group. He really is acting like his mother caught him and he feels humiliated. He's not laughing at all.
Julia was actually laughing so George improv'd "it's not funny Elaine"
1:38 Elaine's chuckle is heart melting
Still the series’ greatest ep. They came close but never topped the writing and acting in this one.
Elaine's laughs are just gold
The brilliant thing about this episode is that they never once use the word "masturbation" or even any of the common euphamisms for it. All of the dialogue is always two steps removed from any direct mention of masturbation while still making it perfectly obvious to the audience what they're talking about. So good.
"WELL I COULDN'T RUN OVER THERE THE WAY I WAS!!!" 🤣
This right here ladies and gentlemen is Elite Comedy writing.
"We have to do it. It's part of our lifestyle!" LOL
This is one of the Best Seinfeld Episodes of all Time.
Larry David, the writer of the show, said this is his favorite episode
@@Jhaokeh "Not Everyday"
which one is it?
It’s funny watching these now bc I was just a little kid when this show was on. And we had tv night after homework and my dad has to watch Seinfeld. I was only 9 I think when this episode came on and I remember asking my parents what they were talking about and my dad blurted out “pooping!!” And my mom was like “yeah honey”. In my head I was like “how the hell are they going manage doing that?!”.
@@lissaC.W. I know right?🤣
"Glamour?!?" -- LMAO!
Elaine has the best laugh and laughing face 🤣
*The four of them were in a contest... to see who could go the longest... WITHOUT GRATIFYING THEMSELVES!*
Props to Larry David who wrote this brilliant episode. (And won the real-life contest!)
Kiko Jones uu
The Funny thing is that Larry David not only participated in a contest like this, he won.
Is there a video on this? Where da source at?
small d1ck probably. Nothing to stroke xD
Hes old. Old peple have ED.
J J JR not all of them. I know a few who are sexually active at 70. As for Larry David... I have no idea what his explanation is. I was just trolling :)
Don't you guys realise Larry David might have participated in bet in his younger days. I remember reading it somewhere.
6 minutes later, Kramer's out.

Of course, the girl across the way didn't help. Lol
“You better be careful buddy or she’ll get you next”😂😂😂😂
2:12 Kramer's body language is so good here, haha. It always sticks in my mind.
Hard to believe this episode was in season 4. Not many people were watching Seinfeld including me until this episode first aired. After this aired, it gradually became the most talked about show every week and the greatest tv comedy ever.
This episode showed how Seinfeld was on a different level than any other comedy on TV.
Agreed. Think it still is. Certainly better than any crap on British tv!
Jason Alexander is an incredible actor.
"Its part of our lifestyle.".. Always loved that line
He’s not wrong.
Kramer was really enjoying that milkshake😂
Foreshadowing!
Arguably the best episode on Seinfeld
Changed Television.
"It's not funny, Elaine" as he's about to laugh 😏
When you realize that this episode aired in November
The episode that made this show a phenomenon.
Never watched Seinfeld until this episode happened to be on when flipping channels. Greatest episode in the series that made it a phenomenon and changed tv history. Can’t believe this originally aired in 1992
I wish they would’ve done a visual flashback with George’s mother wide-eyed and horrified. Then slow-mow her trying to clutch the wall and fainting. 😂
Funfact: This episode first aired in November making it the first No Nut November.
I love Curb at least as much as I love Seinfeld, but I think I'm glad that the Seinfeld writers had to work under broadcast-network restrictions, as it forced them to become creative in ways that brought us scenes like this one.
Yeah, network censorship rules usually make comedy more bland, but sometimes they actually force the writers to come up with creative workarounds that make the jokes even better. What makes "The Contest" so genius is that they wrote an entire episode about masturbation without once ever directly mentioning masturbation. The humor comes from the gang constantly dancing around the topic and letting the audience fill in the blanks. If they'd written this episode for like HBO with no language restrictions and just explicitly talked about masturbation the whole time, it wouldn't have been nearly as funny.
I love how you can see everyone crack when Jason Alexander talks
This comedy series is greatly missed worldwide, the best
This right here, should be put up somewhere, framed up in some Hall of Fame of the Best Television moments ever.
“Glamour” magazine beats Sears catalogue.
This was arguably the single best episode of Seinfeld. The writing is superb, and the acting by all of them is awesome. Each of the four main stars shine throughout this episode.
The two very best parts of that episode are this clip of George telling the story when his mother caught him masturbating alone while reading a glamour magazine and when Kramer slams down the dollar claiming "I'm out!
Dylan Watson Yes!
What about when George visits his mother in the hospital and right next to them there was a hot nurse giving a bath to a patient. George reaction was hillarious
What about when Elaine is out? "The queen is dead"
This is the scene that got me into Seinfeld.
But are you still master of your domain?
I’m lord of the manor!
I’m king of the county!
The writing on this episode as brilliant. Every viewer knew what the cast was talking about yet the word masturbation was never in the script.
I always lose it when George says "my mother had a Glamour magazine"
And thus, No Nut November was born.
See this is why their will never be another show like this, they could approach literally any topic and make you laugh😂
Kramer is laughing. We don’t see that often.
Praise Larry David for writing this episode. I don't know how or where he got the idea from, but thank goodness.
one of his best
This show is just about everyday life, lots of friend groups have had no masturbation competitions.
@@Calikid331 I've had one with a girl when i was younger, like 16 or so, tough one. I won btw
Supposedly, the contest was a page from Larry David's real life.
2:37 brilliantly delivered
The peak comedy. Gonna say that this is the best comedy episode in tv show of all time
This episode single handily put Seinfeld on everyone TV
'Police interrogation' from a family member, I'll enjoy that during the summer weeks 😄
Jeff Toobin would last a tenth of a heart beat. LMAO!
that honor system didnt work too well because George confessed later that he lied and he didnt win the contest. you would think that when they had no honesty or loyalty to anyone else in the world, they'd at least have it with each other.
Real laughs at 0:47, I think
best episode in tv history
Me and my friends talking bout No Nut November:
As many have noted below, one of the best parts is watching Jason Alexander trying hard not to burst out laughing after saying "It's not funny, Elaine!" Here he is, playing a character over the age of 30 who was caught "self-gratifying" by his own mother in her house. Of course it was funny!
1:19 you can see Jason Alexander trying not to laugh
"because it's there" is the famous answer given by climber George Mallory when asked why did he try to climb these huge mountains
One of the best episodes ever
The pinky promise…so good
If you look closely George was about to laugh when he said it’s not funny Eline
My no. 1 favorite episode 😂
Glamour Magazine???
The true beginning of No Nut November
Every second of this scene is pure perfection
"Well, I'm out."
This has to be one of the best scenes ever.
Georges miserable life is so relatable
Even after a week, the cracks start to form. After three weeks, it’s too excruciating to keep it up any longer. To anyone that can last a month, I admire your willpower.
Glamour Magazine? Epic line 😂😂😂
This three minutes is the best sitcom routine ever. It seems so natural.
Absolutely groundbreaking episode. The best of the best.
Care to make it interesting?
And thus beings one of the greatest moments in sit com history
thanks to this, if I ever make a bet with someone, I want to phrase it as "care to make it interesting?"
In real life, I'm sure all four of them would've died laughing from hearing that embarrassing story .
They were almost there 🤣
extremely weird comment
Doing a bet that you can't verify with george... yeah really smart... of course it turned out that he cheated...
The last time I saw that episode where the plane went down was the first time hearing George say he cheated. I was laughing for the rest of the day.
The last time I saw this clip, I remember Elaine looking a lot more like a bird
