Idaho Murders House Set to Be Demolished in 2 Weeks, Victims' Families Furious

- The University of Idaho announced the house where four students were murdered more than a year ago will be demolished on December 28. At least two of the families of the victims had opposed demolishing the house before the trial of Bryan Kohberger, 29. The Law&Crime Network's Angenette Levy talks with retired FBI agent and attorney Bobby Chacon about the plan to raze the house and what it could mean for the trial in this episode of Crime Fix - a daily show that delves into the biggest stories in the world of crime.

I truly feel like the house shouldn't be torn down until the trial is over with. It could really help with the trial. It's strange to me almost that they want it torn down before everything is over.
Feelings don't matter.
Who asked you?
Feelings are the reason for tearing it down @@RollinTrollin This decision is purely emotional. It is a crime scene and it should be up to the jury to decide whether they'd like to visit the place. Unheard of to tear it down before. Will taint the trial and cannot be fixed.
What are they hiding is what I'm asking. There may be a hidden tunnel after all is what I'm thinking. Highly suspicious behavior they display is what I'm feeling.
Thoughts, Feelings and the spacial aspects of the property matter to the prospective juror's. It's shocking if this gets ripped away from the trial and the juror's. Virtual tours does not help to a visual of certain things. It would be handy to stand in certain places to understand how sound travels and what the eyewitness saw
Demolition confirmed the police trying to destroy evidence all evidence and frame Kohberger. If an juror ever walked into the house with insane echo and paper thin wall. the case will get tossed the first day
It shouldn’t be demolished until there’s a verdict.
Agreed
Yes! The jury could be taken there
Thank you.
never heard of any case where the place of such a horrific crime wants to be destroyed/ deleted in such a hurry and particularly BEFORE the trial!
Christ Church mass shooting, they also demolished it weeks after the shooting. At least a couple other places of mass shootings have also been torn down very quickly. In those cases at least, it was assumed to have been to destroy evidence that they were false flag events.
Maybe not demolished, but crime scenes are very rarely preserved for trial
Happens all the time with school shootings especially where there's evidence the door wasn't locked and police stood in the hall for an hour....nothing to see here
Good comment
the univeristy is moving on and rebuilding for new students
I am surprised that a judge has not stopped this from happening.
Seems like tampering with evidence
ME, TOO
I mean it’s private property. I don’t think a judge could order what they do with it a year after the crime after investigators have had plenty of opportunity to investigate. Think of how many crimes happen in homes where people still live
@@Manatee4Scale Judges are supremely powerful and do have the power to prevent the destruction of that home regardless of whether or not it is private property.
If both the prosecution and defense say they are done with collecting evidence from the property and don't need to walk the jury through during trial, there's literally no reason for the judge to do that. Judges don't decide how either party will put on their case. That's the attorney's job.
Why destroy the home before the trial? Sometimes, allowing the jury to walk through the home helps explain how things went down. They should keep it standing until the trial is over and then tear it down. JMO
🎯🎯
A jury has never, ever walked through a murder scene. The crime scene has been processed, documented and any discoverable evidence forwarded to the defense. Please stop commenting about things you know nothing about. You are not a lawyer in the state of Idaho.
I personally think it’s a mistake, as you can’t replicate the feeling of actually standing in the house, and the nuances you’ll pick up on when being there in person. I do think they are justifying the demolition by having the 3d rendering available during the trial. I don’t think it’s a replacement for the real thing.
It sounds like the defense and prosecution have both signed off on it! I’m sure they’d know if they wanted jurors to be able to walk through.
@@Manatee4ScaleIf I were a juror, I absolutely would want to be able to walk through the house. The house absolutely does look extremely precarious and there were many additions made onto it over time, with different material which causes different sounds to travel in different ways. I just find this ludicrous. A trial date hasn't even been set!
Huge mistake to do this before the trial. Why do they need to rush it? It’s actually shocking.
$$$$$$$$ that comes from new students.
........and they the University wants it down while the students are on christmas hols.
Do you really believe it's a "mistake"?
They shouldn't be allowed to do this
Destroying evidence before trial, why?
Why the hurry? Why even give the house to the uni in the 1st place? Very suspicious imo
The University owns it
@@ellenhood1356 yes, it does now
$$$$$$ from new students. They can't afford the visual blemish. It may keep students from attending. Imo, all about the $$$$$$$$.
AGREED! It’s highly suspicious, as is pretty much everything about this case!
That is suspect... should stand till trial is over.
What is the rush??????
Demolition of the house tells me 2 things:
1) No trial anytime soon.
2) The state is confident that Bryan is the one who did it.
But that monster believes he is going to walk off free.
Lmfao Bryan is CLEARLY not guilty.
I´ve never seen such a calm not guilty person being acussed of murder. @@timthetoolpool
If the state is confident then why is there no trial date yet.
Im not sure how the justice system works although prosecution has prolonged this case due to not giving all evidence for defense to go through and examine. And if they had a strong case then they would have easily given their evidence as it would be concrete no matter what the defense team may throw against them.
When both defense and prosecution is ready then there should be a trial, no delays.
@@timthetoolpoolandddd you’re delusional
How could they test what the surviving roommates could have heard from their rooms if it's gone? As far as voices, screams, dogs, crying?
It might help people understand how screams or noises from overhead or down the hall might have sounded at least.
People think it is odd the surviving roommates didnt call 911, but maybe it was very muffled.
The sound issue won't show in a drawing or model.
I would want to test the acoustics and the sounds. How does it sound in what rooms when someone's screaming or tussling?
@@jamesw.6931 I think they did wake up but never suspected what they were hearing was their friends being killed. One said she thought Kaylee was playing with her dog in the room above her. Your question is why the house should stand. Why give the defense a chance to say they would have clearly heard the sounds of the crime? And somehow imply that the roomies were in on it?
On the other hand, it would be easier to see why they might have slept through something if it could be shown the sounds didn't carry.
@@jamesw.6931 I think he was sure he'd get away with it. Not only that, then he could teach classes in criminology as someone who had experience. He probably thought it would give him some real-world experience. It's also possible he had a psychotic episode.
@@jamesw.6931 ...also, he hadn't counted on leaving that knife sheath. He might have not known his car would be caught on cameras, and maybe he really thought that if he turned off his phone, there would be no evidence. Instead, turning off the phone seems like good evidence against him..
They could have tested that before. They CANT test it now considering everything has been removed and acoustics would be different.
Also FYI, it seems like there weren’t any screams to be heard! Hearing commotion/barking/crying is not automatically indicative of murder. They couldn’t have known what was happening
@@Manatee4Scale
@Manatee4Scale good point about the acoustics being different if they've removed everything. They could only recreate . Hopefully they did test all of it.
Correction: They THINK that they found all of the evidence.
Items that were thought to be completed unrelated to a victim/murder have solved many murder cases. I feel like it should be left intact, just my opinion.
It shouldn’t be torn down until the trial is over. The jury needs to walk thru the crime scene. I agreed it should be torn down but it should be after the trial.
Did he go to court already? Because that's evidence.
The trial date has not been set.
Yep evidence is being destroyed. Why. What is going on.
@@Sweetmotion23yeah something is def up🤔🤔
A house is not evidence. 😂
@@Carl_McMelvinand you're not an attorney or and investigator 🤷
As a true crime buff and experienced investigator, I happened to be driving through Moscow, ID, so I drove to that house in July this year, 7 months after the heinous crime. It was surreal and haunting to see it and imagine the unthinkable horrors that occurred inside those walls. All the windows were boarded up and there was an officer posted out front. I had learned earlier that day that it was set for demolition very soon. What's the rush and why chance it over the slim possibility that they may need more evidentiary value that they may have overlooked? Just wait until the trial is over to err on the side of prudence. If not for anything, at least to honor the families' wishes. And there is a HUGE difference between the jury seeing the house in person vs. a simulated walk through via a computer scan model while sitting in a courtroom. Prayers up for the loved ones suffering this tremendous loss..🙏
i agree something about this is suspicious
Agree, why the rush? @@sunshynethomas2960

Tampering with evidence.
Tampering
@@brittnaesimmons5170that's what she wrote.
@@autumn1734 He. But yes that's what I wrote.
In what world is getting rid of the house 'tampering with evidence?' I swear some of you live in an alternate reality. Jurors never go into crime scenes literally ever. Sure, just like with everything, there are exceptions but those exceptions are typically due to the prosecution and defense failing to come to an agreement... That is not the case here, they're on the same page, they're both completely fine with the demolition so you should be too. Bringing up 'tampering with evidence' is an insane thing to say.
I dont think they should take it down until after the trial. It would be good for the jurors to do a walk through.
The house should stay til the trial is over
Ugh - the jury needs to see it like they did in Mozel for Murdaugh. I hope it doesn't mess anything up.
“Emotional connection”!?... I’m sure the families of the victims don’t feel an “emotional connection”. They want Justice to be served and this is why they’re fighting for the house to stay up. Feels like a tone deaf statement from the school. Did the school even listen to why they wanted to wait on demolition? Certainly not because of an emotional connection! Jeeezzzz….
Spot on!
I agree. House should not be torn down till after the trial.
Shame on you university! 👎👎👎
There's something fishy about demolishing a crime scene before a guilty verdict is found. Someone is being paid off.
Why do this before the trial? Ugh. A mistake
Praying this doesn’t affect the outcome for sentencing, evidence etc! College is more worried about its reputation and that’s a shame, especially being them poor people attended and choose that college…. What a slap in the face!

Something might get revealed during trial that they had no idea about, a place with extra evidence that wasn't checked. Imagine if that comes up AFTER it's demolished, everyone saying it had no value will never live it down.
The families don’t have an “emotional connection” to the house. It is quite literally EVIDENCE and the trial hasn’t even happened!!!!!!
While I understand the reasons University of Idaho and the community want to tear it down, until this case goes to trial the house should stand, IMO. Demolishing the house might prolong the trial date, which is something the victims' families would not want.
no no no! Do you fools want him to get off. That is messed up.
I actually think he's innocent. But I too think it's messed up.
@itzhexen0 u agree. It's totally sus
NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS???!!!!!!
THE TRIAL HAS NOT EVEN STARTED.
WE NEED IT FOR EVIDENCE
THEY ARE GOING TO MESS UP THIS CASE, I JUST KNOW IT
They already have 😢
Doesn’t say much for the university and the feeling of the families! Pictures and videos are not the same as an in person walk through! Shame on the university!
They’re trying to cover something up.
Doesn't it seem odd to everyone that they're claiming to get back into the house to do measurements? ESPECIALLY the FBI claiming that when this home has been 3D scanned more than once. According to all the hype of all this 3D/4D scanners. It's said you can't get more accurate measurements and positioning. So it would seem to me that ALL parties already have very accurate measurements!
Also.... I completely disagree. I feel the house should be saved till after the trial. ONLY because it's better to be safe than sorry! I "Wished I Woulda's" TOTALLY SUCK! It's not hurting anything right now. I know it's a horrible reminder. But even worse would be needing it and not having it!!
Why are they demolishing this house against family wishes? Obviously they don’t care about the victims or their families. It’s all about $$$$
Only one family doesn't want it torn down. Both the defense and prosecution are ok with it being destroyed, along with the other 3 families. The house is full of asbestos and shouldn't have had students in it to begin with.
@@azalagoand you know all this bc? Also they said "at least 2 of the victims families DO NOT want it torn down" and specifically mentioned the Goncalves and the Kernoodles. So it's obviously not ok with the 3 other families.
@@CaseyMarie11-11they said it in this very interview 😆 listen .
@CaseyMarie11-11 If you had bothered to watch more than the first 5 minutes, you'd know both families initially opposed the building being demolished. When Brian waived his right to a speedy trial, the demolition was halted, and both the prosecution and defense returned to the house to collect measurements to construct and reconstruct evidence. Now that all that is finished, they want to demolish the house again. NOW one family is opposing it.
Even the expert they interview in this video says the house no longer has any evidence and isn't worth keeping around.
Can’t the judge make them wait? That seems odd, talk about destroying evidence! Wow
This was great information. Thank you
I'd be furious too,the jury needs to walk through
The time for the removal would be AFTER THE ACTUAL TRIAL!!!! This University is disgusting!!!
TO ME THIS IS A WIN FOR THE PERSON BEHIND BARS. THIS HOME SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN DOWN. THIS IS SO DISAPPOINTED
I feel like post-trial, destroying the house would feel like a cleansing and finalizing act.. pre-trial it is a source of anxiety and uncertainty.
I thought it was settled that they weren’t going to demolish the house until after trial 🙄 No one wants to live there, but that’s not the point.
Save the house until after the court is finish 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I just feel like that house shouldn’t be demolished until after the trial is over. Who knows if they are going to need to go back into that house and get any kind of info or evidence, I know they say they collected everything they needed but who knows?
This is like taking a piece of evidence that has been accepted by the court and destroying it!
If they do this and it results in a non conviction, I hope the families sue them.
Wait till the trail is over.
Don’t destroy it until after the trail.
WHY IS THE SCHOOL IN CHARGE??!!!!!
THIS IS NOT MAKING SENSE
TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WANTED TO BUY IT
THEY ARE DOING A COVERUP
The school owns it.
The owner donated it to the school
The school owns it. It’s their property. They want it torn down bc they don’t want this crime attached to the university. Which is fine. But it doesn’t look good on their part by destroying it bf the trial
I realize the school owns the house but the judge has the authority to stop the demo
The prosecution might not need the house! what about the DEFENSE???
The school only wants the house tore down because it reflects badly on them… they shouldn’t tear it down until the trial is completely over and justice is served.
Bryan must be pretty depressed about the news. This house has been his ultimate "trophy". He would die to walk in there one last time. Ironic. This is the beginning of the end for him.
AGREED
This is making me think that guy is innocent..
They should let the jury when trial starts walk through the house to truly understand the horror!
This is so beyond dodgy and fishy
Seriously, how is this any different than a person getting murdered in public? Those places aren't shut down and left alone until the trial is over. How is this any different?
They keep saying how contaminated it is. Lots of murder houses are sold and jurors have walked through what’s so different about this one? Although I personally wouldn’t want but just sayin
Computer animation, virtual tours, etc do not give knowledge on how the sound travels between rooms/spaces, which is key when considering BF & DM evidence and its validity.
Because the house is coming down its time to set a trial date and lifr the gag order. The truth needs to come out and the motivate. Justice for Kaylee Maddie Xana and Ethan and their families
Wow! i thought it was understood that the house cannot be touched till he goes to trial? Interesting.........
The fact that the want it done this way seems suspicious. What are they hiding
Everything. Biggest cover-up in decades. 🤫
It's rare that a crime scene would be preserved for a criminal case. They, prosecution and defense, had all the time they need to gather evidence and map out the house.
Defense should be able to preserve it and allow jury to walk through. If defense didn't want it then I suppose it's fine
@@HealcraftIt sounds like both parties signed off on it
I completely agree
I think it’s a huge mistake😕 that statement doesn’t even make sense how is the community going to start to heal when they haven’t even started a trial.
That house should NOT be destroyed until the trial is over. 😢😢
It is a STRANGE decision to try to demolish a scene of a crime before someone is convicted of murders within it. Sorry but I find it all very suspicious to expedite its destruction. Not too dissimilar from cremation of a victim prior to a trial too. There is no reason that house cannot remain unused until any successful conviction. I may be wrong but it seems off to me and disrespectful to victim's families. The house is too contaminated for use...yeah, okay then, methinks they're attempting to justify their actions a little TOO much.
Exactly! Very well stated!
When is the trial set for?
Why not wait for the trial to be over? That's a crime scene, they're supposed to preserved it while the case is ongoing!
Why is the university so bent on demolishing the house? What's the benefit or urgency??
What happens when he appeals and the house is gone?
I know the house is a bad memory. But really it’s a present situation that isn’t over yet . They should want to know without a shadow of a doubt what happened to these people’s children . This isn’t fair to the ones lost nor the people who lost them . Honestly if this isn’t negligence it plum darn shady !! What’s the rush …? I for one am praying God for justice . These poor families … my heart hurts for them .
Yes, and TRUE justice, not some perceived justice that ends up being more injustice!
Cover-up going on.
Of course the prosecution wants the house to go before trial! They know if the jury was to have access to the house, they’d find that a lot of what they’ve been told, isn’t exactly true! There are a lot of highly questionable and missing puzzle pieces to this case, and it says a lot that they are in such a hurry to get rid of the house before a trial date has even been set! One of many questionable acts done by the university, the prosecution, the FBI, and law enforcement!
there should be a law that prevents this.
There will be no healing without justice
They used the same chemicals at this crime scene that they do it every other crime scene. Crime scene where jurors have walked through afterward. In fact, crime scenes where families have moved back in afterward. So don't feed us that BS
Suspicious
The trial hasnt even finished or the killer been sentenced! This is a travesty
The University doesn't care... it's all about $$$. The house is a reminder and they need to take any negatives away to attract new students.
I wonder if C. Scott Green ordered this for more business? He is the President of University of Idaho. That was also his childhood home.
This is absolutely the wrong decision!! Let the jury decide when it is torn down!
The cops cant stop them from tearing it down?
They’re involved in this cover-up too unfortunately.
This is so sad. The house needs to remain as is until after the trial. I'm beginning to wonder if Ethan, Xana, Maddie and Kaylee will ever receive Justice. I pray for the families. It's obvious the University doesn't want Justice for these four beautiful souls. The University is only thinking about themselves.
Yep, and that’s all they’ve thought about since this horrendous crime occurred! They don’t care who they hurt in the process! It’s despicable!
EXACTLY!
The Uni wants to get rid of it bc it reminds potential new students of how the university and the school could be unsafe which could detract them from choosing that school. The aim is restoration of reputation and a feel of safety, whitewashing over what had happened, because money is the bottomline motivating factor.
Same goes for city officials probably pressuring the school for kind of the same reason, fewer students in the town means less money coming into the town.
Nonsense. Everyone knows what happened. The house isn't a reminder.
@@joeb5080 no way thay house cannot be a reminder. And, it is an eye-sore, so they likely want to get rid of it because of that. Out of respect for the wishes of the families of the victims though, they ought to keep it up until after the trial, imo.
WHATTTTTTT??
I think it's wrong to tear down before the trial. Yes students have a right to get back to their lives. But this house is about the victims who cannot get on with their life. Because of a horrible crime. The university should honor the ones who were murdered there.😢
I don't think it should be demolished. I think the jury should be able to walk the house. I get that the school wants it gone but I think with respect for the families it should remain until the trial is over . I mean it's been there since the murders and I don't mean that in a negative way im just saying why not wait a little bit longer.
I thought it would be normal to let it stand until the trail is over.
Maybe some missed or hidden evidence could be found.
Strange a judge would allow this. 🤔
There’s a reason for the rush. There is more evidence in that house about the fight! The jury is going to want to see the house like the Murdaugh jury did. It will cost the trial.
The prosecution should know better
They should Not raze that house until After the trial! It's a horrible idea!
Isn't is better to not tear it down until AFTER TRIAL? What if the jury wants to visit the house like how the jury Murdaugh's house? What is the rush to tear it down before trial?
This is incredibly ridiculous the house on King Road should NOT be torn down!!!!!!! If I were any one of the victims family members I would be hancuffing myself to something and not letting them tear down this house until after the trial was finished!!!!!!! This is a serious crime and justice needs to be served and the person who is responsible needs to be held accountable!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT DEMOLISH THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!
University Board mentality.
Its not good for our image, so lets remove it and don't care about the parents.
The University wants to "delete" the eyesore in that neighborhood as soon as possible, which is honestly quite sad.... 😞

This need to be stopped. Jury need to be able to go there themselves to be able to make a more informed decision. Being shown it on a video would not have the same effect. Tear it down after the trial. Is there security guarding it? If there is maybe its too expensive to have them there when trial still has not been given a date?
Think that should be don’t after the case is over. Otherwise the date could an more then likely is destroying evidence
They should wait till after the trial! Why? Justice is hard in America
I just don't see any long term harm of waiting till the trial. Maybe it effects the bottom dollar?
