    Hello! I just wanted to thank you for your great yt channel! I have a full enclosure set up for a Panther! I should be getting one in the next month or so. You and all your Chams have been the biggest and best source of knowledge. There is a video for almost everything about them from you. I’m so exited to see more videos from you and keep learning.
    As a questions, what climbing/ trailing or long “vine-like” plants do you recommend? How steep can they climb?
    Kind regards-
    Evie

      You are very welcome! Thank you for the kind words :) Good luck with your new chameleon once they arrive. A pothos plant is my personal favorite vine plant for a chameleon enclosure. Chameleons can climb very steep, even straight up and down.

      Update! We got him today. Around 4 months old, he is surprisingly friendly. He climbed on my head and arm all by himself. It was so hot today in England, the ambient was 27c but he seemed ok. Only thing is he won’t stop climbing on the screen and ceiling, he keeps falling and doing it again. I caught him lots and he is still in good shape (luckily).

    Excellent video!! But speaking of enclosures, would you consider making a video on how to thoroughly clean their enclosures? I’ve had my veiled for about half a week and I’m sure I’ll have to wash things soon

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  4 роки тому +1

      Glad you liked it! I have a video on how to spot clean an enclosure: ua-cam.com/video/fpARlO7wqIA/v-deo.html This is what most keepers do to maintain their enclosures. Frequent deep cleans are not usually recommended since it usually involves moving the chameleon and rearranging their enclosures which can cause them stress. You'd definitely want to do a deep clean, if you bought a used enclosure, are using it for a different chameleon, or your chameleon gets certain kinds of parasites.

      Thank you for the kind words. Sorry to hear about your chameleon :( I do have a video about how to sex a veiled chameleon (will be making a panther one eventually) to help people correctly know the sex of their chameleons. I also made sure to mention egg laying in females and pointed to some good resources. I hope that video can help save some chameleon lives. But if someone takes the word of someone else and doesn’t double check they know what they’re talking about, then you end up with incorrectly sexed chameleons :/

    I brought my chameleon home yesterday! I named him Comet (cause his cuteness is a planet killer hehe) and got my golden pothos in my enclosure and completely spaced and didn't sanitize the leaves! And of course THAT'S the plant he's hiding in now 🤦‍♀️ So I'm torn. Get out the pothos and scare him or leave it??? I don't know what to do!!!

    No stores around me had the correct linear lighting I wanted so I have to order them online. They also didn’t have a bigger enclosure than the ones that comes with the infamous “chameleon kit” so as of now I’m using those compact lights but I do absolutely plan on getting a 2x2x4 enclosure and getting linear lights to go with those. but my chameleon is staying extremely close to the light on the screen. I think it’s a combination on all these reasons since she is new, but how long would you say i could use these compact lights before it would begin to cause issues? The 2x2x4 cage I want is on sale for 100$ for I wanted to grab that first before the price goes up again then get the linear lights once I have the right sized cage ( the linear lights will be way to big for my current enclosure) I know the compact uvb will be better than nothing in the meantime but I just don’t want to give her inadequate lighting for too long

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  4 роки тому

      Hmmmm lots of factors go into that. For heat, it depends on the temps you're able to produce. This video should help with that: ua-cam.com/video/7govEIUlM24/v-deo.html. As far as UVB goes, as long as you're using a T5 5.0/6% in a single bulb fixture, then you should not have any issues burning your chameleon and would be fine to put the fixture directly on the cage. Here is my video about UVB, ua-cam.com/video/5RVjgaLsWn8/v-deo.html and here are two other great resources one of which, goes into the different distance placements of UVB: chameleonacademy.com/uvb/ & chameleonacademy.com/basics-uvb-for-chameleons/

      @@NeptunetheChameleon she doesn’t currently but today I have purchased everything I need to set it up. The other concern I have is she’s now sleeping during the day. I know sleeping during the day is a sign of sickness or possible death. A few days ago she fell off of her pothos in my shower. I tried to catch her but wasn’t fast enough. I took her to our reptile vet and she had no broken bones but a bruise on her side. Ever since she’s been acting strange. I’m just freaking out because I don’t want to lose her.

      Definitely normal as they explore their new home. Just make sure you provide lots of hiding places and branches for them to climb.

    hi!! i love your videos it has helped me so much to make sure my chameleon has a healthy, long life! but i have a question! for example, we have a hurricane and we lose power and cant have the lights on? what should we do then?

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  2 роки тому

      I’d have a generator to help run the lights but if it’s only a couple days without power your chameleons should be fine as long as it doesn’t get too cold. If the weather is decent you can take them outside for natural UVB.

  • @jgutie1552

    I took your advice and replaced my uvb light with a linear one but it has not stopped my chameleon from hanging upside down, although he does it a little less often now. It has lost 4 nails which is a bummer so we always take it out and let it crawl around on the couch when we see it up there. Now my problem is that he is not eating for 4 days now. He acts normal and his colors are normal but does not even look at his food. Any advice?

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  4 роки тому

      Hmm does he have branches that are close enough for him to get the correct UVB? Enough hiding places? Horizontal branches?
      How long have you had him? Make sure the bugs are moving around.

      @@NeptunetheChameleon I want to say yes to all of the above. He has a branch about 4 inches below the light and I have added 3 more vines around the cage for him to move around (small cage). We bought him in March and he was between 4 and 6 months at that time. I have tried having him sit above a container of crickets, roaches and wax worms. I have tried feeding him from my hand and with tongs. I will say that I stopped using the basking light when it got warm, it gets 75 degrees without it during the day and he is a rainbow Jackson's so I was told he doesnt need it as warm. Maybe there is a problem there?..

      @@NeptunetheChameleon Ok thank you! Good news, he finally ate again on day 5! I had stopped feeding him crickets for about the last month because I was sick of half of them dying on me. Out of desperation I went ahead and bought somemore medium crickets and let a few go in his cage. He gobbled them up.

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  4 роки тому +2

      Ah yes. Classic picky chameleon. If you do decide to try and get him off of crickets, you'll have to hold out much longer than 5 days. Neptune got hooked on superworms a while back so I stopped offering them to him. He went 2 weeks before finally eating his dubia roaches. As long as they are offered an alternative food source, a chameleon won't starve themselves.

      What reading are you getting at 7 inches? What kind of meter are you using to measure?
      Females will lay infertile eggs without any male contact, similarly to chickens. It is not necessary to buy a male chameleon.
