2001 was pretty much boring
Yeah it was thought provoking but it's not as good as people make it out to be
For me Interstellar was the best movie of all time .. No other movie ever make me think so much ..
In English class I had to memorize this poem. A few days before I had to say this poem in front of my class my dad passed away. I had found such a deeper meaning to this poem, and I nearly cried when I had to present it.

The real name of the poem is "Do not go gentle into that good night." Dylan Thomas wrote it in 1952 as his father lay dying. Thomas himself would die a year later at 39.
The poem was written in 1947, but published in 1951.

I watched as my father lay raging against the dying the light. Ieven though he was almost 95 he wasn't ready to go. Only his frame failed him not even his body and certainly not his mind. He was himself the night before he died at sunrise the next morning even though he couldn't speak he spoke to me through his eyes. He raged, he raged against the dying of the light his last night before I left after sunset with the TV on in the background as it had been for four weeks. Without a just before I left, a live broadcast of the Canadian tenors came on. As I said by goodbyes as I had done every night for weeks before, each time unsure he would make it through the night, they saying I Am My Father's Son. What wee the odds? A gift it was. My Dad before that quietly inside himself unable to move or to speak he spoke with his eyes. Raging against what he didn't finish. Reging against all that he should have done and all that he didn't do and all the time he wasted and needless worry and angst that made no difference come tonight but he raged against the light. Until I sang along I am my Father's Son with The three tenors in the background and he relaxed and I left. Young male nurse called me at 7:30 the next tell me my father passed at Sunrise. And that he'd had a quiet peaceful night. Finally at the very end he stoppes raging against the dying of the light. When he realized he had done everything he needed to do. It's up to me to do the rest. I don't have a son but I can do my best.

It's not that I'm afraid of dying, you see. In the end, we all die. We all must return to the dust from which we are made. It's just that there's so much to do down here. So, so many things to experience and dive into with joyous wonder, grateful for the chance to be alive, if only for a little while. Death doesn't frighten me. Never having lived does. Because in the end, we're stardust, all of us. Little pockets of complexity, motes in an infinite sea of nothingness. We're stardust pretending to be something... else. I can think of no greater shame than to squander the tiny bit of time we have.

I think one of the hardest aspects of being alive is the loss of those we care about.
You live You love and You die.
And no words can ease the pain of loss.
In order to live you need to die. All the processes your body does to live are the ones that will slowly carry you to death.
in reality there is no loss, nothing is lost in this universe, only reconfigurated. And you have nothing, empty hands you come and empty hands you go, how you can loss something? People are free, they belong to no one and they are here not to stay, make peace with your sintax.

I can't stop listening this masterpiece.
My last grandparent is dying right now...and for some reason this helps...sitting next to him watching his breaths slowly going away hes always been strong even now in his last moments his body hangs on...hes a korean war viet only half a lung and 97 years old....i just want him to pass so his fight can end and he can rest...😢

What i love about this poem and poems in general is how they can apply to any situation depending on whoever reads it. For me it means: even when you know the end comes soon, keep fighting, go out fighting no matter what. Rage, fury, you will not be bested without a fight! I think this speaks to vigor and confidense. How did you guys read it?

Rage against the dying of light for me is the hardship of living in between 2 extreme emotional situations either feeling like the most emphatic creature in the world or feeling no empathy at all.
From someone that makes trailers for a living, you have a natural gift my friend .
I always find myself coming back to this video. Especially when i’m lost or worse, scared. I feel that it reminds me how big the world is and how little I know. I’ve read about 30 interpretations of this poem yet it barely even touches the atmosphere of which this poem signifies. I can’t even begin to explain how dumbfounded I am by this video. I’ve always been fearful of failure. And by that I certainly don’t mean “a bad grade”. I fear that I won’t live up to my life’s potential. I fear I will go gentle into that goodnight. Die a tedious death and leave without a mark or a legacy. I want people to know my name, even after death. As I always say, “you never truly die until your name is spoken for the last time”.

I would say Stephen Hawking has done enough for mankind to earn the right to "go gentle into the good night."

Dr Hawking did not go gentle. Every odd was against him but he recognized the gift of his mind and put it to use for the good of mankind.

There are no words adequate to the English language to describe the magnificent and stunning nature of this presentation. There are simply no words.
This is why i believe immortality would be the ultimate curse. Watching everything die. Your family, your children, their children and theirs. The world and all it’s beauty, the planets and the stars and the black holes of the universe, die. And then, as you wait patiently in the well of your own mind in a void of nothing for eternity, you would realise that none of it mattered. Nothing meant anything, ever.

Supreme Leader Nugget why it has to be in void? It can happen in reality and my choice would be to bring eternity for my close people and explore the universe, to understand God and by God I do not mean Gods of existing religions. It is a possibility to challenge universe itself.

I have asked my son too read this at my funeral. I cry every time I hear or read this. My English Professor introduced me to Dylan Thomas. We were crushing on each other but nothing came of it. I write but just for myself. It’s very cathartic.

What a masterpiece...The best poem I have heard. These wonderful masterminds viz. Mr. Dylan Thomas, Mr. Christopher Nolan etc. by their respective pieces of artwork have inspired and guided the lives of hundreds and millions of people in some or the other way. Can't thank them enough.

When everyone's around in is asleep it's hard to rage do you think you're nuts but they're asleep they think this is all a dress for yourself they're a plane is supposed to have a role in connect the end of the day what Remains of the Day Anthony revealed so pointiently

i got this tattooed on me after an attempt. i’m so glad i chanced upon this movie in this lifetime it was the best thing that happened to me
this poem went perfectly in to the movie plot, but it fits perfectly to the life in general. It helped me to take a different point of view about certains aspects of the life, the farewell of beloved ones, and the strength to keep going on

My uncle is on his deathbed! Hes suffering from ALS on ventilator. This reminds me of him. How he wills and urges to stay alive despite all the machinery tucked to his body. I'M CRYING SO MUCH OH MY GOD! RAGE RAGE AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT

This is possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed.
You know you are seeing something deeply inspirational when the hairs on your arms stand and the pulse quickens.., that my friends is the true power of the spoken word.. and the intense ability of a beautiful piece of music with which to accompany it.
I studied this poem in an English class as a perfect example of a vignette. Then I learned I share a birthday with Dylan Thomas (and Sylvia Plath). Since then it's been one of my favorites. Also, Dylan Thomas himself reading it is vast better than anyone else I've heard.
