  • Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night read by Anthony Hopkins
This poem's meaning is life affirming. It urges us to live life to the fullest and to never surrender. "Rage, rage, rage against the dying of the light" -- push back and against blindness, illness, death, and whatever is forcing you back in life.
Dylan connects all men together--wise men, good men, wild men--by writing that they all will face death. When they do, he urges them to fight--"rage"--for more life, rather than gracefully slipping into darkness. No matter what these men have done with their life, good or bad, they shouldn't give up the struggle for more.
I edited this video together in the hope that it might provoke some deep thought and contemplation among those who enjoy it.
Be sure to check out ‘Invincible’ - the first instalment of this series of motivational videos too.

As I sat next to my father the day he passed away, his last words on this earth was "I love you son". He tried to fight but his body could take no more. No longer a son but a father I hope my last words too will be "I love you son". RIP Dad I miss you..

Caner Erten yup. My father was a profoundly good person. His watch stopped within 5 minutes of the time of death. When my grandfather died, clocks stopped in the house. They told me back then it was something that happens in the family. After my father died I looked it up and turns out it’s not uncommon. I have lots of stories like that, many people tell me I should write a book.

@Liam O’Neil I'm afraid this is the very issue with those who suffer like this. It isn't a conscious choice to entertain those thoughts nor is it an option to think any other way whether it be positive, assertive etc..
For most, there is an inherent knowledge that this is a sickness. They think and feel like any "normal" person except they are interrupted by invasive thoughts which hijack and otherwise healthy brain and a good day - things fall south quickly onward from there.
Getting over yourself is applicable in, say, moments of grief, trivia, conundrums. Here is an issue whereby the affected party aren't struggling to get over themselves, but struggling to understand how to think with clarity without being invaded by thoughts of the contrary. With that clarity, it's hoped, will come understanding and, in that, remedy.

I was vaguely aware of this poem in my teen years but I heard it shortly after my father died in Grade 12 and wept. A few years after a quadrupel bypass operation he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He worked every day until he literally couldn't any more, fighting to support his family and only when it was clear that there was no way to continue did he stop. He signed his DNR, he wrote a letter to each of us to be opened once he was gone and he went. I was sitting next to him when he breathed his last breath and this poem comprises everything I wish I could have thought to say then.

It was my uncles who I knew as the toughest men other than my own father, balling their eyes out along with their sons and daughters where I was the youngest out of all of them. I used to love this poem and many of his poems .. but now.. I see it so differently... Dylan was 'raging' alcoholic.. the 'dying of the light' in his life was caused by his drinking, the disintegration of his optimism and creativity by his disease. Maybe he needed his rage to keep going and not fall down .. but ..not everyone does.. and although I love his work with words.... I don't look to him as a source of wisdom or direction for a life of wholeness or instruction for a good death.. so this whole poem is just something that many people accept because it kinda sounds right to them without really deeply examining what is means.. 'raging' against death has become kinda pervasive. I'm an icu nurse and I have seen hundred + of people die during my career.. and the ragers are like a kid kicking an elephant...

This poet is a craftsman of words, an artist of language, a sculptor of profound meaning, who shows that life is, but a dimming flicker of light as quickly extinguished as it once was lit. Each sentence is like a concussive, yet alluring shell of pathos and mourning, that is sadly sobering, but life affirming.

I love this because it’s about fighting against the “dying light” which can be a symbol for just about anything in our lives. My grandmother passed away on September 1st, 2022; and exact week from my birth day. It destroyed me that I couldn’t spend one last birthday with her but I started thinking back on the whole experience. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer in October of ‘21 and was given 6-10 months to live. Looking back at she had lived longer than 10 months by technicality since it would’ve been 10 months on August 20th. Since she passed on September 1st she had lived longer than what she was told she would… in a sense raging against the dying of the light.

Couldn’t have found this at a better time. For several months I’ve been dealing so much guilt, shame and self-penance. For hurting the woman I was going to marry, and now gone. Self-forgiveness has not come easy- been living in a prison-like life. Although you’ll always have others tell you you’re a good person and that it’s ok to make mistakes, no matter how terrible, doesn’t make it any easier to cope with the process of getting better and move on. I’ll make sure I watch this more often, and to any of you out there, if you truly love someone, you do right by them!

    Best speech ever created.
    Lyrics:
Do not go gentle into that good night
Old age should burn and rave at close of day
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
Though wise men at their end know dark is right
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night
Good men, the last wave, by crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight
And learned too late, they grieved it on its way
Do not go gentle into that good night
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
And you, my father, there on the sad height
Curse, bless me now with yourt fierce tears I pray
Do not go gentle into that good night
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

We are born and brought screaming and crying into this world, and as such our parents, friends and family smile in blissful joy at our birth. When we shed our mortal coil with our dearest and loved one around us, they cry and mourn at our passing. It is then that we smile at them in bliss, knowing that we left a changing but positive and loving impact on their life. Do not fret over losing your family, friends and loved ones, nor should they do the same to you: We all will see each other again.

My grandmother was a very strong woman and she taught me how to be strong. She fought for so long but her body couldn’t take anymore. She didn’t want hospice. She wanted to live as long as she could even if that meant being in pain. I was always against hospice but now after seeing her suffer I do see a reason for it… I’m always the one to hold out hope but sometimes you have to be able to see when there is no more hope and to pass as peacefully as you can… I can’t remember the exact last words cause she was in and out of consciousness as the toxins flooded her body. But one I remember is she told me she was proud of me and hoped to see me again and asked if I was gonna be ok, and I said yes I would be ok… I think that eased her mind and helped her let go… I guess that’s why I avoid remembering or talking about it too much cause I’m not ok when I do. So I avoid it. But I don’t want to forget

My younger brothers father had a stroke the day after Christmas and after 9 days of being in hospital, with the worst aphasia, they’ve just confirmed they’ve found terminal lung cancer. My heart is so broken and shattered my two younger brothers who also went through losing our mother 5 years ago while they were 14 and 16. I am so unbelievably scared for them so I can’t begin to imagine how frightened they are. I don’t know what to say, but I know these videos are helping. I just wanna support them as much as I can from here on out. Life is so painful and tragic right now, but I am praying and I am hoping and I am going to work through this.

Due to some life challenges I missed the last few years of my fathers life. I made it home a week before he passed, holding his hand, myself raging against those that tainted his thoughts of me, keeping me from him. Never able to have a moment with him and my daughter. We were a large family and someone was always at his bedside. He was such a tough , gritty man , with the warmest heart and sweetest soul. Every day the nurse would say, this day would likely be his last, after a few days she said, I’m not saying that anymore. We finally left his room a few hours with no one there. And then he passed. Like protecting us as children, he didn’t want to leave us or didn’t want our last memory of seeing him go. I wasn’t able to attend his funeral and a part of me died that day. What a great man. I have some solace in that he now knows the truth of my last few agonizing years and y I wasn’t there. . I pray that someday my Ellie will be home and I can heal this bitter heart while sharing ur life. I wish I had ur strength. I love u Dad

That even in your deepest, darkest moemonets, you should claw and fight and struggle your way towards hope, even if it is just a small flickering thing. But, after my mom passed away, and seeing her spened her final days on this earth with her family and grandkids, I think I have a better understanding of it.

You can not make peace with things that are. If you have a will to change what is. You can't make peace with tomorrow until you've made peace with yourself. To have peace with you, and what you stand for. All others attempting to have you bow down and bend a knee. They say that is the peace. Surrendering your will to that of someone else's But you can have no peace as that, it creates inner termoil.
The only peace man can know. Is to make peace with their convictions. See it through. Or be destroyed. by another who has made peace with theirs.

Thank you and with due respect DS
I know two types of "Peace":
      1. A Peace that the world gives.
      2. "A Peace that the world cannot give!".
I also know that "God can do all things" and giving "Peace" even in the darkest hour by His own Power, He can let that "Peace" descend upon us, or fill us inwardly with it.
In fact, I believe that there us no limit to His "abilities" and power outputs!
In spite of the tears or age of the woman in the picture, if we understood the/our soul, we would understand the inner or even outer invisible Presence with the woman through the Lord etc., through the Power of God's Love, agreed?
Anyway I hope it enlightens you and God Bless and Love you eternally.
      Take care.
      Amen 😘

Here Is a Poem I wrote called...
    Love Reborn
It Is a night of sorrow,
    A song of dark desire,
    Wolves vent their loneliness,
    The beautiful one awakes.
Wisps of death shrouds her deathly form,
    a timeless fear
Her face Is paler than white,
    Dark circles surround her eyes,
Her eyes were sinister & lifeless,
Veiling her pain & silent cries,
Her raven black hair cascades over milk-white shoulders,
    She walks to approach me,
& her full rep lips slightly part to gently touch mine,
As we share a kiss under the dark, shining, moonlight sky,
    After a night of sharing,
    I remember her.
