Great video. Nice to finally meet the great JP 👍🏻 I really enjoy watching like this.... If it's not you putting bits back together it's now JP making lathe work look so effortless. Top job, both of you.

Its been a long time since I have seen a Capstan Lathe, especially a Toolroom quality machine. A precision engineer at work.

The illusive & legendary JP is finally revealed! Some say he was cast from the finest Canadian steel, others say he was born in the machine shop. We only know him as the JP!

Mike. Finally we see 'John Player' and his special tools in the machine shop ? Delicate workmanship is glory to an eye of a past time slowly disappearing ! V.

Indeed, there are very few shops like this left - there are no sheet metal shops in town now

Great to see jp, a boss once told me to keep my mouth closed while using tools, so in the event of something hitting you in the mouth your teeth stand a better chance. I have a nice scar on my lip from that advice but no damage to my teeth.

    Excellent travail a vous deux!

go bigger on the casing then you can have a thicker wall on the bush and you can always make them the same. if the bore on the casing is bigger you will always be past the wear.

Your approach to fitting bushings is very similar to how a fine gun maker fits parts.
And a first rate machinist is part craftsman part artist. I had a next-door neighbor who is like that there wasn’t anything he couldn’t make with incredible precision

Nice to put a face to the name at last. I've seen his sketch! ;-D So you'd have to make it slightly over size to account for the cooling. Nice shop and great skills.

Mike spytaj się tokarza czy tuleji nie trzeba zastosować obróbki cieplnej .
Stal stopowa 4140 do ulepszania cieplnego i hartowania, niespawalna.

    Nice Turret lathe 👍
Regarding the intermediate shaft bore, it’s common to find centre between the input and output centres.
Given the small dia and amount of interference fit, easy to get caught out with thermal expansion if in a rush.
