Great to see all those lovely new parts going in.. I remember my TC was a mess from the factory.. I had to replace every bearing, the counter shaft and adjust all the preloads.
Thanks! Love to have them on :) A shame you had issues right out of the factory. We had a leakproof stock transfer case for almost 120'000km until my husband crashed it offroad ;)
Engineered that way. You always have to top up so it’s continuously getting serviced so it should last longer. The LT230 extended sumo is a winner. Install a bigger gearbox oil cooler so that you increase the oil volume.
@@offtrackfamily beginning of lockdown, but only just gone back on the road. Handles the power of my engine conversion really well. Had the ATB fitted at the same time which makes for less clonking. Really pleased with it.
It made sense to replace the gearbox along with the transfer case. Ye have put a lot of hard kilometers on the defender, so there would be a strong likelihood of needing to repair or replace the gearbox in the future, which would be more expensive in the long run. Expense ye could probably have done without right now, but as ye are likely to be keeping the defender for a long time, it's an investment.
I'd suggest that all the vent pipes are checked both axles tbox and gear box they can block witch will cause presser in the box/axles and will alow oild to pass by the seals causing a leak also depending on how often you drive them that will contribute to leaks if they sit around stationery for more then 2 years your garented for it to leak
@offtrackfamily do you think the reason for this 2nd failure could have been as a result of fitting the LOF Output shaft? I remember reading somebody commenting on your video when fitting the LOF output shaft and he said that because it was solid one piece, it didn't allow for any flex and therefore you'll have issues down the line. Could this have been the case?
I don’t think so. Transfer case was leaking before that replacement. My husband decided to have it rebuilt by this French guy and at the same time upgrade some of its parts. The leaking came back after less than a month. After months of being very disappointed with his way of treating us, we went for a complete new set from Winchester Gears. When removing the old transfer case we were able to confirm it was his bad work that made it re-leak. Nothing to do with LOF clutches part imo. We have the new transfer case on for more than a year and no leaking issues.
Hello la Off-Track Family, Très belle leçon de mécanique 😉 et surtout superbe vidéo : images d'une grande qualité et musiques au top 😍 Merci pour ce partage... Bonne continuation et bonne semaine à vous ! Captainriver23 de France
We have the US Spec one because seemed the best for our always heavy Defender. Triple sleeve casing, brand new gear set with Ashcroft ATB, and 300m shaft
Previously all were uprated by Ashcroft right? I just installed refurbished transfer and auto box on my 2.4, all Ashcroft. So far the service was good, hope that it does not start leaking of knocking…
Yes, our previous transfer case was one from Ashcroft. It was leaking for a while. Last year, it was rebuild a second time also with Ashcroft parts but by another craftsman .
We've got the US Spec with triple sleeve casing, Ashcroft ATB, 300M shaft, and brand new stock ratio. The best is to contact Winchester Gears if you have some questions :)

It always amazes me how much money people spend on keeping Defenders alive. The love must be very deep indeed. Just get a proper Toyota Land Cruiser these things go on forever.

Always disappointing people blame the companies rebuilding.. if landrover them selves could not make them leak free how is your mechanic? Landrovers leak oil.. some can be improved but most are just a loosing battle
We bought our Land Rover brand new back in 2009 and more than half of its life it didn't leak. The stock LR transfer case never leaked. Too bad my husband trashed it during an intense offroad outing at about 117'000 km and it had to be replaced completely. And yes, I do blame the craftsman who rebuilt our leaking transfer case last year because he positionned himself as the best of the best with many "never-will-leak-again" transfer cases rebuilds going out of his wrokshop. When we notified him of the leak a month after his job to ask what to do, he blamed everyone else, treated me like sh!t, this story went on for a complete year...
@@offtrackfamily I’m sorry it’s worked out that way for you. I personally won’t warrant lt230’s against oil leaks. My puma case was leaking inside of 30,000km. I’ve hardly ever had a defender on the hoist that didn’t have a leaking transfer case. Again I’m sorry you experienced broken promises but hopefully the new case will do the job now. Keep up the good videos.
I agree, if the work cannot be 100% guarantied it shouldn't be done. The story behind all this is much more serious than it might look like. Unfortunately some market themselves as pros when they cannot handle a proper customer service and a real aftersale service. In any case, was best to do a complete U turn and work with a company we know will help us if a problem arise 👍

Yes, taking care of some flaws and regular maintenance is key for a long lasting 4x4 and it helps us avoid as much as possible breakdowns while out :)
Can't beat a bit of gold bling, not had any issues with mine since fitting.
