Since all the scary factors are kids, kids being creepy, crying and finally killing you; I have a feeling that the main character is a child abuser that went to purgatory or hell. So I'm not rooting for us in this case.

Honestly the original version seems like a vent made by someone who went through those abuses and then it just got taken by gross edgelords who wanted to make it into a gorefest for shock value.
Like I could see the game being made by Obscure, but I just feel like even though it does have ARG elements that it has *so* much symbolism that it feels less like an ARG and more a commentary about these things that happened and then maybe Obscure just wanted to get it out as an interesting thought experiment thing.
Actually, the picture shown at about 18:57 in the video is not a representation of Satan, it was a drawing of Eliphas Levi, a french 19th Century esotericist, and it was never meant to represent Satan or Lucifer or any demons. It was a symbolic and synthetic representation of the "great work", Alchemy, as the union of the opposites. The creature shown is all about opposites: the goat head/hoofs and the angel wings, the female breasts and the Cauduceus that represents the male sexual organs, one hand up ("solve") and one down ("coagula"), or the deconstruction and reconstruction of matter for the Work. This didn't stop many satanists (and AFAIK the Church of Satan in the US) from using this image to represent Satan... But this is not what Levi intended with his drawing.

So nowadays when you use the Baphomet image people "see Satan" and that meaning entered in the "semantic field" of the image, you coud say, by popular demand! "BBC failed" most probably refers to the British Broadcasting Corporation (the main licensed TV channel here in the UK) who aired Saville and Harris and are widely known to have turned a blind eye to what they were up to.
I came here to say the same. the BBC gave them TV shows where they were surrounded by kids. I just remembered that Harris covered 'Stairway to Heaven' in the early 90s. don't know if it's relevant or not
Johnny Rotten was banned from the BBC for many years after that interview he gave accusing Jimmy Savile of being a ped0. They knew what was going on most definitely. Savile was a monster and everyone just ignored it.
Sad Satan resembles something a victim of child abuse would create as a way to vent out trauma and it happened to be leaked out whether intentionally or not. The slow and reversed music reminds me a lot of the animator Birdie's vent animations. For me, I think the original game was a vent art piece. It's edgy, yeah, but these sorts of walking simulators are often used as "Art" pieces. I think saying it's "Not a real game" is ignoring just how many of these types of games are made. No, it was clearly never made to be sold on steam, or distributed widely, but just walking and having no other controls isn't uncommon in the indie space. The numerous british references makes me think the person was british. While they do mention American things also, I don't think they are American. No offense to you guys, but you often don't know things about popular culture outside your own country. A british person could conceivably reference American events, but there is no way I would believe an American would reference things like Jimmy Saville or the BBC. Its not that Americans haven't heard of these things, just that they wouldn't reference them. The "clean" version of the game seems to condemn child abuse, the images, while shocking, are all condemnation, and the sad children scattered around the game, as well as the child at the end attacking the player, could be some sort of expression of the complex feelings that come with being a victim. It's possible the maker of the game, then, was a victim, and is disgusted by how normalised this abuse is in their country of residence. While the game has a lot of markers of a ARG, it also has a lot of markers of an angsty cryptic walking simulator. For people who know indie games, most know that these are VERY COMMON. Also common is the ability to add still images to a game. Here is what I think conceivably happened: The OG creator, a british person, creates a little indie walking simulator horror game to express their feelings about CSA. Whether because they're venting/exploring it, or because they wanted to pick the edgiest, most controversial topic possible. Then a viewer of that horror channel stumbles across the game, probably on some random forum or blog somewhere. The internet being completely centralized is a very new thing, remember? If some guy just posted this somewhere, it's possible nobody would ever find out about it. Especially with so many old web pages going down, I'm unsurprised nobody has ever found a site like this. This viewer recommends the game to the horror channel. The horror channel plays the game, starts getting publicity. Rumors start to spread, and people start looking for the game. Because the horror channel said it was on the dark web (I think this part is probably just a lie to make the game seem scarier than it actually was) everyone was looking on the dark web for it. The horror channel wouldn't want to post the actual link to the game since his only views at the time were coming from that game, no point letting people just see the ending for themselves. The excuse the channel maker gave, that there was CP and violence in the game that he'd cut out, inspired our next guy: the creator of the clone version. I think the guy who posted the clone version either had played the game before and recognized it, or managed to find the game, either way, he had a copy of the game, and when everything blew up, he added shock images and a virus, and posted it online to get attention on 4chan for being the "real" maker of the game. I know it sounds convoluted. But I don't believe the original creator of the videos and ZK are the same people, nor the makers of the game, and yet they both clearly had access to the game. Remaking the game perfectly from scratch would be way too much work to add only a few images. The simplest explanation, then, is that the game was available somewhere random online. I also don't believe ZK is the creator of the game, because why would a pedo make art that is directly giving an anti-child abuse message? If you take out the edgy images that are clearly not present in the horror channel's copy, the entire thing is anti-CSA, to the point of heavy-handedness.

First bit of content i remember Mutahar getting sick from dealing with it. Wasn't sure if he was just playing it up like Pewdiepie would on some games. Turned out that no, he really did get sick from the CP he saw in the clone version he was given.
I actually used to own a clone similar to what Muta played. It was so sick and disgusting that I had to delete it after two playthroughs. For me the most disturbing parts weren’t even the images, but the audio. The audio made me feel sick to my stomach hearing genuine terror from a poor child.

What's always bothered me about some theories, is that they don't take into account the fact that obscure horror corner was an active channel before sad satan I've found the channel in the wild when researching some obscure horror games myself. It was a genuine channel. I doubt he made the messed-up version, but no theories I've heard feel right. I don't see why he would fake it, but it makes the most sense. He had a seemingly dedicated fanbase and a nice niche. I wish Jamie would come back, even just to give a "hey this is what happened lol" video. Sad satan has bothered me for so long, especially since I was invested in it during the main investigation.
I feel like the original felt very much anti-pedo (I've even seen people mention that the original feels like a vent game made by a CSA survivor / someone who's close to a CSA survivor), so the fact that it ended up being co-opted by an actual pedophile to spread CSEM, especially if the idea for the og was came from a personal place, it makes sense why Jamie would no longer want to be associated with it in any capacity.
He most likely faked it. Before this was the "Toy Maker" videos and while the DOS game's creator was found and all, OHC was putting in his own modifications to the DOS game and all for his videos and basically making shit up with that. It would not be a shock that he made Sad Satan himself considering the evidence from his channel, which im sad wasnt brought up at all in this video since it's relevant. As for his return, i dont think that is happening. He uploaded a 2-3 minute video called "Now." which was just a picture of a tree in a sunset and that was it (a small few who saw it thought that was someone being hanged from the tree, but that wasnt the case). It was up for a few days before being deleted and was posted some time after the whole situation occurred. He also uploaded a strange politically charged video before "Now." which was also quickly removed. At best, this was a ditch effort of "ending" things or saying some bullshit to gain more attention but he kept backing out and now has just abandoning the channel for the foreseeable future.
Thoughts and prayers for Satan. I hope he's able to find the right counseling and medication regimen to clear up that sadness. Depression is serious, even for the dark lord of hell.
when we were around 11, my friends and i somehow stumbled onto the gameplay videos of this game on youtube. it terrified us and i remember having them walk me home and hearing the reversed tiananmen song in my dreams for WEEKS afterwards since i was so scared. recently we got together and actually brought this topic up and wondered if it was real after all, i guess we got our answer! thank you for this video hannah! ❤️

As someone who was trafficked and later groomed and exploited online, I believe the third theory a lot more. There's a strange set of predators and pedophiles who get off on showing CSEM to people who don't want to see it. This Graves guy likely just saw it as an opportunity to do that.

I was always so morbidly intrigued by this game in my younger years. Not just because I was horrified something like the Sad Satan clone could have such illegal content, but also because I wanted to know where it came from. The original video had always intrigued me because the clone looked nothing like it. I wanted to know where that version came from more so than the clone. When I tell you I did so much research to find out where the original came from.... I was a very lonely child.

I have a hard time guessing what the original "game" was meant to say, if anything. to me the way they included pictures and videos of people like jimmy saville (who portrayed themselves as good people that care about kids but actually were abusers themselves), that makes it seem more to me like its a criticism of those people. if i were trying to be deep I would say the game was meant to make the player feel so uncomfortable, confused, scared, and trapped much like an abused child would feel.
The Japanese serial killer/cannibal/pedophile who showed up was involved in a very prolific case in Japan and was called the otaku killer. He kidnapped 4-7 year old girls to make cp, and then murdered them. I think you're right about what the first version is depicting. It makes sense the creator disappeared, this game was coopted by a pedophile who inserted CP into it, the very thing the first game was against.
I like to imagine it as the person we are playing as is the child abuser in hell, suffering for his actions. We see children crying, chasing us, trying to kill us, and their screams and cries and images of morbid things, and the audio, I am guessing is to reference what he has said and the actions he has done. And him feeling trapped and confused just like his victims

also if that does say 'bbc failed' then it's possibly referring to the bbc probably knowing that savile was doing what he was doing and failing to protect children, especially as in the eighties he was doing this programme that meant he was coming into contact with a LOT of children, and failing to effectively investigate any alleged abuse.

I feel like the story of the original Sad Satan was supposed to be about you (the main character) going through a personal Hell… The main character is dead, and I feel like all the children are implied (to me) to be children that the main character sexually abused and/or murdered while he was alive. Now the children are taking their vengeance by torturing him forever… I also feel like all the imagery used of notorious murderers and child abusers are to imply that the main character is like them.

I was gonna say that. Lots of distorted screams that turned out to be stock sounds, pitch shifted slowed down songs and reversed songs with "subliminal messages", and all kinds of pictures about people who did horrible things that are well known cases. Feels like whoever made it opened Wikipedia and browsed through certain sections to get all these "references" and use it in this game.
Well, either that or a vent art piece. in the UA-cam version (yk without all the gore and cheese pizza) the pictures and references were a lot of people who presented themselves as good but in the end were terrible, and also there were a lot of distorted children. As an artist, I've seen similar things, of people who wanted to convey a message or just outlet their feelings and used horror as a way to pour all that agony (of which i'm assuming, getting SAd) out. I've seen something similar before, a picture named "morning visitor"
It's very refreshing to see you cover a horror game! There's a massive wealth of amazing horror games out there, some of even which break the molds of the gaming genre they're expected to fall under (like the horror RPG). Many of them are much more interesting and less disgusting than this one, too. I hope to see you look into the medium more! Horror RPGs and point-and-click adventure games especially are much friendlier to people who don't consider themselves "gamers" like yourself!

For the BBC failed line it is fairly simple to explain. The BBC (The government run British Broadcasting Corporation) covered up a lot what Jimmy did because he was an important figure to them I want to say because Jimmy gave the BBC a lot of money or he did something like help with the stations programing/production as a producer. Heck I want to say there are still statues/sculptures at various BBC station locations that Jimmy either paid for or commissioned that are still there to this day and have not been removed even after the scandal. Some one can correct me in the comments if I am wrong about what I have stated

Long time KMFDM fan here. I just wanted to say that KMFDM has had so much backlash due to the Columbine shooters being associated with them, and whenever this topic comes up I rarely see anyone mention that the band actively takes stances against gun violence, or that the band had broken up before the shooting. Not ragging on you, because you can't possibly get every single important detail in there! But to anyone reading this, KMFDM is an amazing band, please don't associate them with Columbine!

I still remember being around 14-15 and watching a classmate play this on his laptop during recess. There was a group gathered around him as he played and one by one they started leaving because they couldnt handle it, i was one of the first to leave because it was so sick. I have no idea how this was allowed at all.
That DNA kit would be awesome, my family is shrouded in a lot of mystery for me - my father's parents passed away before I was born and he seemingly has no family left. My mother was adopted, and we have minimal knowledge about that side of the family due to that. It would be amazing to get both sides and share with my parents, who I'm sure would love to learn about their families.
Not 100% sure it’s the same but my friend told me there are copies of a “cursed tape” (out of production vhs tapes that are now considered to have a curse on them due to their content) of Rolf Harris doing a stranger danger tape they used to play in primary (our term for elementary) schools around Australia. not to be a the nitpicking Satanist, but the figure you call satan at 19:00 is actually Baphomet, some consider it to be a form of deity, but most recognise them as a symbol of balance. Baphomet is depicted as human and animal, male and female, benevolent and malevolent. it’s a symbol of duality and balance amongst all things.

Ironic too that Thatcher is in that image considering so many people hated her guts for her lack of compassion towards children and especially children who couldn't afford lunches.
I mean, Thatcher destroyed a generation of the working class by damaging their parents’ livelihoods by closing mines, her economic plan damaged the schools a great deal and left the schools closed while teachers were forced to strike on masse for their livelihoods. My parents were part of that generation and are very outspoken about her flaws as a premier.

And while the economy ultimately grew, it plunged miners across the country into poverty, because their livelihoods were taken from them. Teachers had much the same; there wasn’t enough money for them to really survive, under the Conservative government’s budget cutbacks, leading them to also start striking. In short, the rich got richer and the poor got poorer under Thatcher’s rule and it robbed young people of the 80s of education and livelihoods, hence why left wing and libertarian sentiment rose exponentially in those times.

I feel like it could be sending a message of anti-child abuse, the disturbing imagery and audio serving to shock the user, and move them towards a position of hatred for such things, or to invoke a feeling of dread about it.. forcing the player into confronting it mentally, aside from just being creepy. I think the audio, dark atmosphere and etc make it fairly obvious that it isnt promoting, as it's being presented as something evil, and grotesque. That being said, versions with worse stuff included wouldn't really fall into that category.
At first I thought the title said "Sad Satan's Sister Legacy" like there was another similar game like it! I always thought it was just a walking simulator where bad photos pop up with no rhyme or reason, which it is, but you made it more interesting! So thanks for being so in-depth with this! irt theories about the (clean/original) game’s plot, i definitely think it’s more of an art piece instead of just a bunch of random edge, because it all correlates to each other too much to seem like it has no relevance. i lean towards your theory 3 about the creation of the game, i think it was originally meant to be an ARG or an ongoing project that was shut down because of the negative attention reddit ZK brought to it. i think obscure horror might’ve just jumped on the bandwagon at the time, which was dark web shit and PT-esque walking simulator games. anyways, assuming the origins of the game didn’t actually contain that illegal content, i think this was a game acting as commentary on the satanic panic. there’s a lot of cult-related imagery that could relate to murderous and/or satanic cults. the popular songs sounding creepy while being played backwards made some more extremist christians believe that these bands were actually satanists or trying to brainwash their children through backwards subliminal messages. i think all of the references to real life pedophiles with an emphasis on jimmy saville can be taken in a few different ways. theory one is that the creator could be saying that the real pedophiles aren’t satanic cults abducting children from daycares, but otherwise upstanding members of society and even people you watch on TV, who are poisoning the media. the second theory could be that the creator is saying something illuminati-esque is happening where the rich and powerful are preying on children, poisoning media, and protecting each other. it could also be a combination of both, so maybe this could be taken as the creator saying that the media is being controlled by one powerful satantic cult, or that people are too busy worrying about satantic cults preying on children when the real predators are right in front of us. the theme of poisoning media is important, both with the backwards songs and also some of the other references in the game. the serial killer miyazaki’s killings caused a panic that horror movies motivated him to kill. a lot of people also theorized that the columbine shooters were inspired or driven to violence by “darker” media, with music being one example. this all makes me believe that the game is more aligned with the illuminati-esque theory because the broader organization/cult could be influencing and brainwashing people to be satanists and killers through media (don’t believe this irl, just looking at it through the eyes of a writer/artist lmao). as for the gameplay, i think that you’re meant to be playing either from the POV of an abuser, or an investigator. i think it’s more of the former since the children hide from you blair witch style and attack you at the end. the room with the eyes on the wall seems to allude to many people watching what’s happening to the children. with miyazaki’s eyes being “cut” out in that one image, maybe that’s implying that he was one of the people watching the cult’s actions, therefore inspiring him to go and kill. as for the message at 28:31, i think this is in reference to the theory that the BBC and even the royal family knew about jimmy savile’s crimes and either didn’t care enough to act or actively condoned it. rolf harris to my knowledge was also arrested during the huge post-mortem investigation into jimmy savile. but this all points to the theory that the creator of the game is trying to say that the powerful are covering up the crimes of horrible people, or actively in on it. that got out of hand but great video!! this game fascinated me when it went viral but i forgot about it until now lol.

i would LOVE to do a dna kit because i really am not sure where my family is from. i live in western Poland now, but both sides of my family lived in what is now modern day Ukraine before the war and were displaced when the soviets stormed in from the east. recently my grandmother (born 1930) passed away and we've been doing research on the place she was from - she suffered from dementia but would always tell us stories about the manor her family lived in in the Ukrainian countryside. turns out the town she lived in was a shtetl (a town with a majority Jewish community) and her surname (which we previously thought was an old Polish noble name) did not appear on official records. we also know our grandma and her parents helped hide a Jewish family during the war. another thing is that she had striking brown eyes, black curls and a very characteristic nose. when we went to the Jewish museum in Kraków (Galicja), we saw a picture of a woman who looked like my grandmother could easily be her twin. we already have a huge family tree on myheritage - nearing 200 entries - but the side of the family that my grandmother was a part of is much less researched. we would love the opportunity to see whether or not we have Jewish ancestry (our working theory is that our great great grandparents might have gotten christened to avoid persecution which was rampant at the time, and took a Polish noble name without actual links to the nobility) and reach more potential family members than we previously could just with paper records. my instagram handle is @biernatowna and i even have pictures of my grandma in her youth on my page :) my entire family and i would be so grateful for this. it's not easy to save up for such a test, especially given the costs of living in Poland shooting up lately, so winning the giveaway would be amazing.

From what I remember from when this was current, people strongly believed that different people made the Bad and Original versions due to a bunch of minor differences. I think the truth is somewhere between 'his story was true' and 'he made the Original version' its impossible to know for sure. Its entirely possible the subscriber story was true and was trying to start an ARG, and maybe Obscure Horror was in on it, but then it spiraled hard out of control when a game jacker showed up (vk) But I can't see why anyone would make the Bad version of it with so many eyes on them to begin with. Actually, the picture shown at about 18:57 in the video is not a representation of Satan, it was a drawing of Eliphas Levi, a french 19th Century esotericist, and it was never meant to represent Satan or Lucifer or any demons. It was a symbolic and synthetic representation of the "great work", Alchemy, as the union of the opposites. The creature shown is all about opposites: the goat head/hoofs and the angel wings, the female breasts and the Cauduceus that represents the male sexual organs, one hand up ("solve") and one down ("coagula"), or the deconstruction and reconstruction of matter for the Work. This didn't stop many satanists (and AFAIK the Church of Satan in the US) from using this image to represent Satan... But this is not what Levi intended with his drawing.

For me, I think the original game was a vent art piece. It's edgy, yeah, but these sorts of walking simulators are often used as "Art" pieces. I think saying it's "Not a real game" is ignoring just how many of these types of games are made. No, it was clearly never made to be sold on steam, or distributed widely, but just walking and having no other controls isn't uncommon in the indie space.
The numerous british references makes me think the person was british. While they do mention American things also, I don't think they are American. No offense to you guys, but you often don't know things about popular culture outside your own country. A british person could conceivably reference American events, but there is no way I would believe an American would reference things like Jimmy Saville or the BBC. Its not that Americans haven't heard of these things, just that they wouldn't reference them.
The "clean" version of the game seems to condemn child abuse, the images, while shocking, are all condemnation, and the sad children scattered around the game, as well as the child at the end attacking the player, could be some sort of expression of the complex feelings that come with being a victim. It's possible the maker of the game, then, was a victim, and is disgusted by how normalised this abuse is in their country of residence.
While the game has a lot of markers of a ARG, it also has a lot of markers of an angsty cryptic walking simulator. For people who know indie games, most know that these are VERY COMMON.
Also common is the ability to add still images to a game.
Here is what I think conceivably happened:
The OG creator, a british person, creates a little indie walking simulator horror game to express their feelings about CSA. Whether because they're venting/exploring it, or because they wanted to pick the edgiest, most controversial topic possible.
Then a viewer of that horror channel stumbles across the game, probably on some random forum or blog somewhere. The internet being completely centralized is a very new thing, remember? If some guy just posted this somewhere, it's possible nobody would ever find out about it. Especially with so many old web pages going down, I'm unsurprised nobody has ever found a site like this.
This viewer recommends the game to the horror channel.
The horror channel plays the game, starts getting publicity. Rumors start to spread, and people start looking for the game. Because the horror channel said it was on the dark web (I think this part is probably just a lie to make the game seem scarier than it actually was) everyone was looking on the dark web for it. The horror channel wouldn't want to post the actual link to the game since his only views at the time were coming from that game, no point letting people just see the ending for themselves. The excuse the channel maker gave, that there was CP and violence in the game that he'd cut out, inspired our next guy: the creator of the clone version.
I think the guy who posted the clone version either had played the game before and recognized it, or managed to find the game, either way, he had a copy of the game, and when everything blew up, he added shock images and a virus, and posted it online to get attention on 4chan for being the "real" maker of the game.
I know it sounds convoluted. But I don't believe the original creator of the videos and ZK are the same people, nor the makers of the game, and yet they both clearly had access to the game. Remaking the game perfectly from scratch would be way too much work to add only a few images. The simplest explanation, then, is that the game was available somewhere random online. I also don't believe ZK is the creator of the game, because why would a pedo make art that is directly giving an anti-child abuse message? If you take out the edgy images that are clearly not present in the horror channel's copy, the entire thing is anti-CSA, to the point of heavy-handedness.

I actually used to own a clone similar to what Muta played. It was so sick and disgusting that I had to delete it after two playthroughs. For me the most disturbing parts weren’t even the images, but the audio. The audio made me feel sick to my stomach hearing genuine terror from a poor child.

What's always bothered me about some theories, is that they don't take into account the fact that obscure horror corner was an active channel before sad satan I've found the channel in the wild when researching some obscure horror games myself. It was a genuine channel. I doubt he made the messed-up version, but no theories I've heard feel right. I don't see why he would fake it, but it makes the most sense. He had a seemingly dedicated fanbase and a nice niche. I wish Jamie would come back, even just to give a "hey this is what happened lol" video. Sad satan has bothered me for so long, especially since I was invested in it during the main investigation.
I feel like the original felt very much anti-pedo (I've even seen people mention that the original feels like a vent game made by a CSA survivor / someone who's close to a CSA survivor), so the fact that it ended up being co-opted by an actual pedophile to spread CSEM, especially if the idea for the og was came from a personal place, it makes sense why Jamie would no longer want to be associated with it in any capacity.
Can you elaborate a little with how you were involved in the investigation of the game?
He most likely faked it. Before this was the "Toy Maker" videos and while the DOS game's creator was found and all, OHC was putting in his own modifications to the DOS game and all for his videos and basically making shit up with that. It would not be a shock that he made Sad Satan himself considering the evidence from his channel, which im sad wasnt brought up at all in this video since it's relevant.
As for his return, i dont think that is happening. He uploaded a 2-3 minute video called "Now." which was just a picture of a tree in a sunset and that was it (a small few who saw it thought that was someone being hanged from the tree, but that wasnt the case). It was up for a few days before being deleted and was posted some time after the whole situation occurred. He also uploaded a strange politically charged video before "Now." which was also quickly removed. At best, this was a ditch effort of "ending" things or saying some bullshit to gain more attention but he kept backing out and now has just abandoning the channel for the foreseeable future.
Thoughts and prayers for Satan. I hope he's able to find the right counseling and medication regimen to clear up that sadness. Depression is serious, even for the dark lord of hell.

also if that does say 'bbc failed' then it's possibly referring to the bbc probably knowing that savile was doing what he was doing and failing to protect children, especially as in the eighties he was doing this programme that meant he was coming into contact with a LOT of children, and failing to effectively investigate any alleged abuse.

I feel like the story of the original Sad Satan was supposed to be about you (the main character) going through a personal Hell… The main character is dead, and I feel like all the children are implied (to me) to be children that the main character sexually abused and/or murdered while he was alive. Now the children are taking their vengeance by torturing him forever… I also feel like all the imagery used of notorious murderers and child abusers are to imply that the main character is like them.

I was gonna say that. Lots of distorted screams that turned out to be stock sounds, pitch shifted slowed down songs and reversed songs with "subliminal messages", and all kinds of pictures about people who did horrible things that are well known cases. Feels like whoever made it opened Wikipedia and browsed through certain sections to get all these "references" and use it in this game.
well it was during the peak of fake videos from the deep web era of UA-cam.
Well, either that or a vent art piece. in the UA-cam version (yk without all the gore and cheese pizza) the pictures and references were a lot of people who presented themselves as good but in the end were terrible, and also there were a lot of distorted children. As an artist, I've seen similar things, of people who wanted to convey a message or just outlet their feelings and used horror as a way to pour all that agony (of which i'm assuming, getting SAd) out. I've seen something similar before, a picture named "morning visitor"
It's very refreshing to see you cover a horror game! There's a massive wealth of amazing horror games out there, some of even which break the molds of the gaming genre they're expected to fall under (like the horror RPG). Many of them are much more interesting and less disgusting than this one, too. I hope to see you look into the medium more! Horror RPGs and point-and-click adventure games especially are much friendlier to people who don't consider themselves "gamers" like yourself!
I was really groggy all day at work and since I usually have downtime, I browsed UA-cam, I came across this video and put it on, I didn't realized I'd kind of knocked out but the scream at 19:47 nearly gave me heart attack and jolted me awake lmao. Great video!

For the BBC failed line it is fairly simple to explain. The BBC (The government run British Broadcasting Corporation) covered up a lot what Jimmy did because he was an important figure to them I want to say because Jimmy gave the BBC a lot of money or he did something like help with the stations programing/production as a producer. Heck I want to say there are still statues/sculptures at various BBC station locations that Jimmy either paid for or commissioned that are still there to this day and have not been removed even after the scandal. Some one can correct me in the comments if I am wrong about what I have stated

Long time KMFDM fan here. I just wanted to say that KMFDM has had so much backlash due to the Columbine shooters being associated with them, and whenever this topic comes up I rarely see anyone mention that the band actively takes stances against gun violence, or that the band had broken up before the shooting. Not ragging on you, because you can't possibly get every single important detail in there! But to anyone reading this, KMFDM is an amazing band, please don't associate them with Columbine!

I still remember being around 14-15 and watching a classmate play this on his laptop during recess. There was a group gathered around him as he played and one by one they started leaving because they couldnt handle it, i was one of the first to leave because it was so sick. That DNA kit would be awesome, my family is shrouded in a lot of mystery for me - my father's parents passed away before I was born and he seemingly has no family left. My mother was adopted, and we have minimal knowledge about that side of the family due to that. It would be amazing to get both sides and share with my parents, who I'm sure would love to learn about their families.
Not 100% sure it’s the same but my friend told me there are copies of a “cursed tape” (out of production vhs tapes that are now considered to have a curse on them due to their content) of Rolf Harris doing a stranger danger tape they used to play in primary (our term for elementary) schools around Australia. not to be a the nitpicking Satanist, but the figure you call satan at 19:00 is actually Baphomet, some consider it to be a form of deity, but most recognise them as a symbol of balance. Baphomet is depicted as human and animal, male and female, benevolent and malevolent. it’s a symbol of duality and balance amongst all things.

I feel like it could be sending a message of anti-child abuse, the disturbing imagery and audio serving to shock the user, and move them towards a position of hatred for such things, or to invoke a feeling of dread about it.. forcing the player into confronting it mentally, aside from just being creepy. I think the audio, dark atmosphere and etc make it fairly obvious that it isnt promoting, as it's being presented as something evil, and grotesque. That being said, versions with worse stuff included wouldn't really fall into that category.
At first I thought the title said "Sad Satan's Sister Legacy" like there was another similar game like it!

the clip of the interview where he says "didn't do anything illegal" replaying over and over again definitely speaks to a deep anger and frustration at what he did, at least to me. that and the repeated images of margaret thatcher, one of the most hated politicians of all time. i like the theory someone else had that it was a vent for someone who had experienced those things, that the person on reddit got their hands on and inserted horrible images just for shock value. the KMFDM song would be a contradiction, with the prevailing reddit theory that it was included because the columbine shooters were fans of the band, but like......KMFDM is a pretty successful, well known band. maybe the person who made the game just happened to like KMFDM

irt theories about the (clean/original) game’s plot, i definitely think it’s more of an art piece instead of just a bunch of random edge, because it all correlates to each other too much to seem like it has no relevance. i lean towards your theory 3 about the creation of the game, i think it was originally meant to be an ARG or an ongoing project that was shut down because of the negative attention reddit ZK brought to it. i think obscure horror might’ve just jumped on the bandwagon at the time, which was dark web shit and PT-esque walking simulator games.
anyways, assuming the origins of the game didn’t actually contain that illegal content, i think this was a game acting as commentary on the satanic panic. there’s a lot of cult-related imagery that could relate to murderous and/or satanic cults. the popular songs sounding creepy while being played backwards made some more extremist christians believe that these bands were actually satanists or trying to brainwash their children through backwards subliminal messages.
i think all of the references to real life pedophiles with an emphasis on jimmy saville can be taken in a few different ways. theory one is that the creator could be saying that the real pedophiles aren’t satanic cults abducting children from daycares, but otherwise upstanding members of society and even people you watch on TV, who are poisoning the media. the second theory could be that the creator is saying something illuminati-esque is happening where the rich and powerful are preying on children, poisoning media, and protecting each other. it could also be a combination of both, so maybe this could be taken as the creator saying that the media is being controlled by one powerful satantic cult, or that people are too busy worrying about satantic cults preying on children when the real predators are right in front of us.
the theme of poisoning media is important, both with the backwards songs and also some of the other references in the game. the serial killer miyazaki’s killings caused a panic that horror movies motivated him to kill. a lot of people also theorized that the columbine shooters were inspired or driven to violence by “darker” media, with music being one example. this all makes me believe that the game is more aligned with the illuminati-esque theory because the broader organization/cult could be influencing and brainwashing people to be satanists and killers through media (don’t believe this irl, just looking at it through the eyes of a writer/artist lmao).
as for the gameplay, i think that you’re meant to be playing either from the POV of an abuser, or an investigator. i think it’s more of the former since the children hide from you blair witch style and attack you at the end. the room with the eyes on the wall seems to allude to many people watching what’s happening to the children. with miyazaki’s eyes being “cut” out in that one image, maybe that’s implying that he was one of the people watching the cult’s actions, therefore inspiring him to go and kill.
as for the message at 28:31, i think this is in reference to the theory that the BBC and even the royal family knew about jimmy savile’s crimes and either didn’t care enough to act or actively condoned it. rolf harris to my knowledge was also arrested during the huge post-mortem investigation into jimmy savile. but this all points to the theory that the creator of the game is trying to say that the powerful are covering up the crimes of horrible people, or actively in on it.

i came to the comments as soon as I heard that to try to find someone who mentioned it.
i would LOVE to do a dna kit because i really am not sure where my family is from. i live in western Poland now, but both sides of my family lived in what is now modern day Ukraine before the war and were displaced when the soviets stormed in from the east. recently my grandmother (born 1930) passed away and we've been doing research on the place she was from - she suffered from dementia but would always tell us stories about the manor her family lived in in the Ukrainian countryside. turns out the town she lived in was a shtetl (a town with a majority Jewish community) and her surname (which we previously thought was an old Polish noble name) did not appear on official records. we also know our grandma and her parents helped hide a Jewish family during the war. another thing is that she had striking brown eyes, black curls and a very characteristic nose. when we went to the Jewish museum in Kraków (Galicja), we saw a picture of a woman who looked like my grandmother could easily be her twin.
we already have a huge family tree on myheritage - nearing 200 entries - but the side of the family that my grandmother was a part of is much less researched. we would love the opportunity to see whether or not we have Jewish ancestry (our working theory is that our great great grandparents might have gotten christened to avoid persecution which was rampant at the time, and took a Polish noble name without actual links to the nobility) and reach more potential family members than we previously could just with paper records.

From what I remember from when this was current, people strongly believed that different people made the Bad and Original versions due to a bunch of minor differences. I think the truth is somewhere between 'his story was true' and 'he made the Original version' its impossible to know for sure.
Its entirely possible the subscriber story was true and was trying to start an ARG, and maybe Obscure Horror was in on it, but then it spiraled hard out of control when a game jacker showed up (vk)
But I can't see why anyone would make the Bad version of it with so many eyes on them to begin with. Someone else hopping on the bandwagon, I believe a lot more.
