This is the most informative video on a soft top removal I've seen. Didn't know you could unhook the rails from the track in the rear. Would like to see a walk around of the jeep in each stage of the removal process next time. Specially the safari style look with just the windows out.
The way the sides mate with the jeep body is very similar as the old tops that went on the CJ's over the front window. Good use of a system that always worked just fine
Thanks guys! I actually came here to see if you were going to take the soft top ALL the way off (unbolt and remove it) but I still learned something. I had never seen those latches that drop the bars down when it's in the fully open position.
I'm relieved I found this video. I cannot take the top up/down on my JK without the running boards, since I'm so short. I was stressing about the JL rubicon I just purchased. It has rock rails so no sidesteps so it looks like with the new soft top I don't need the running boards. Awesome! Jeep really made this sunrider top WAY better on the JL than the JK.
I have a JL soft top... the side locks don't really stop any bouncing of the top but they do lock the top back, somehwat. If you disconnect those side bars there is nothing to clip them onto and then you just have two free floating metal bars banging into the plastic, right? I believe those disconnects are if you're going to remove the soft top... unless I'm missing a step?
I made the mistake of releasing the frame like explained and it scratched up the side panels. I agree that you will only want to disconnect the frame if you are going to remove it completely.
What is the max speed can drive with top folded back half way? I thought there is straps to tie down? Most of the time I would only fold back half way and leave on panels. If the vehicle is garaged majority of the time, what is the life expectancy of the softop? My biggest concern is security. Thieves damaging to get into the vehicle. Your thoughts please.

Nayely Gonzalez it is, there is a few bolts that you take out. There is instructions in the manual how to remove. It's not hard but was interested to see.

So...4:29 is as far down as the top goes? Fail. Jeep TJ (and even the JK) went down all the way. Ditching the zippers is good, but did they really have to throw away the baby with the bath water?
Anyone know if those little white pieces shaped like bullets that help the window thread onto the track can be replaced? My friend forced one of my soft top windows on a little too hard and the piece is cracked and sitting crooked in the little tube that holds it
I just bought a soft top, and was wondering: is it possible to remove the rear window without damaging it if the tailgate is closed and locked? Just curious about possible theft of opportunity of rear window and other panels. I accept the fact that at any time someone could cut their way in, but just wondering about theft of softop parts themselves, and how easy it is. Thanks.

There are also some Velcro straps that secure the arms. Oh, great camera angles. Easy to see

No more velcro straps for the JL sunrider.
I have velcro straps that came with my JL to secure the top when in sunrider mode. They go around the bracket with folded back. Hope this helps!! 🙂

My convertible is easier, I just push one button and the roof folds and stows in the boot, job done.
Does it hurt the top of you don’t unlock it before letting it down? I just did it to mine and I’m scared I messed it up!!

Can't hide the top itself though, unlike previous generations that you could tuck into the rear storage area. I wouldn't call this "innovation."
