What do you guys think about the new door checks that hold the doors in the open position? Is the trouble of removing an extra bolt when removing your doors worth the added benefits?
That was definitely an area of concern for us when we were filming this. The covers for the rear doors pulled off very easily, and you can't really pull them off wrong. The covers for the front doors however, we could easily see how people might break the 2 panel clips if they try to pry the panel towards the center of the vehicle, rather then pulling it towards the rear.
Can the door checks simply not be bolted back in place? Will the door operate properly(ie no damage) if the door checks aren't re-bolted in place. I can see this step getting skipped for time or convenience or just not wanting to deal with it. Wrangler owners are to the free-swinging doors.
We were actually talking about just that as we were making this video. The arms would be in the way if you don't bolt that single bolt back in. but I think if you took the check arm completely out of the door you would be ok if you didn't care about that feature. There is still the check strap so it would function just like the JK door without it.
I just bought a 2018 JL day before yesterday and it's been so much fun!! Sadly, it's still Winter so Summer can't come soon enough!! GREAT VIDEOS!!!! SUUUUUUBBBBEEEDDD!!!!
Rob, What's your secret to keep the door checks from "snapping" back inside the door frame? The door checks collapsed inside the door frame on my first door removal. The only way I could get them back out was to use a screw driver to 'pry' the door check back out, so that I could reinstall the door. I'd like to know how to avoid this in the future.
On my Wrangler JKU, I have removed the bolts on the doors and never put them back in. Do you see any disadvantage to doing this? It makes it a little easier and faster to take the doors off and put them back on. Just wanted to get your thoughts. Thank you.
Keep up the fun videos guys, Tanks for taking the time to educate all us new to the jeep world guys. It is greatly appreciated. Thanks again and have a blessed week. Dale
Great step by step video. I have a question, have you ever removed the top portion of the front door wiring connector? I'm replacing the wire cover on the floor and the panel covering the wiring connector and I'm required to pull the top piece of the connector off to access the bolt that holds the wire cover on. Thanks!
Thanks for doing the video, it was very instructional and Well filmed. Will you do a video on how to put on a soft top on a 4 door JL after taking off the hard top ? Thanks
What about the auto interior lights? Is the only option to turn them off with the knob and have to adjust the gauge cluster back lighting everytime you start up?
Here’s my issue. I just removed the front doors and it’s a windy day here. A door closed and the door check is now stuck in the close position. How do I get it to come back out?
Iove my new two door sport JL but I absolutely hate how much longer it takes to take off the doors vs my JK…. So much faster and easier to pull a single plug in the JK
You will need a mirror like this to keep yourself legal when driving with the doors off: www.quadratec.com/products/13111_0401_14.htm?QA-JL-Doors-Info but as always, you should check with your local laws before driving on the streets doorless.
I wish my rear doors on my 2015 would come off like that. I still can’t get them off without doing something risking damage. The door checks are a neat idea. I wonder if there will be an accessory for older models?
pmaapl ya it’s weird. My fronts come off no problem. But my backs just won’t. I’ve done as much as I could without damaging stuff trying to get them off.
I know I’m not the owner of his video but yes if u but down the rear seats u can store the doors in the trunk. I recommend putting a towel in between the doors so they don’t get scratched. And make sure are really careful beacuse the mirrors come off with the door
The windshield rework screwed up (literally) the ability to attach heavy duty light bar mounts which are so strong they can support other useful things
Honestly I’m ok with it. I’ve had the thing folded down alsmost every day and love it. The JK was just too much of a pain to do so I never did it. It feels like(almost) the CJ days. Don’t worry though, the aftermarket will come up with something.
Did the check arm go all the way in (bracket almost touching the door)? You can grab the bracket with a pair of pliers and pull straight out, it takes a good amount of force, and it’s easier if you put the door back on the hinges. If it’s still showing about an inch of arm, you can try threading the bolt back into the door jam where it goes and use the door leverage to pull it out
@@Quadratec Mine has vanished. Oh well. Luckily I have the tools. 👊 Thanks for the video. Very helpful. I would have surely shredded the front electrical plugs.🤣
Amazing how Jeep still hasn’t figured how to mount the mirrors anywhere but the door (I’m a jeep guy ) but look at the bronco doors .... same with that damn speaker bar right behind your head
I'm not sure what you mean here. You took your doors off and the windows don't work after you put them back on? Or you are looking to replace the mirrors on your JL and you don't know how to get them off? If the mirrors stopped working on your JL chances are they are still under warranty.
JL pros -body color roll bar -flat horizontal dash -lighter/aerodynamics = better MPG -soft top without ‘cross bar’ -soft top no zippers -real metal interior detail -real hardware (not faux bolts) interior -larger cup holders -air vents for cooling under hood -more slant in windshield -doors stay opened -cabin is slightly longer -possibly the engine(s) -8 speed transmission -quicker throttle response -doors remove easier and faster JL cons -the bumpers (front and back) -front running lights on fender flare -too much digital visual “noise” on dash
What do you guys think about the new door checks that hold the doors in the open position? Is the trouble of removing an extra bolt when removing your doors worth the added benefits?
Quadratec I'm a bit more bothered by the removable panel covering the electrical plugs for the doors than I am for one more bolt.
That was definitely an area of concern for us when we were filming this. The covers for the rear doors pulled off very easily, and you can't really pull them off wrong. The first thing I would do with a JL is remove the door checks. I don't want "car" doors.
This made it crazy easy to get the doors off. Thanks!!
You're welcome!
Hey Rob! You always make the best videos! Thank you for posting this detailed step-by-step video for us!!
Your videos are invaluable to new Jeep owners like myself. Thanks for the thorough and helpful content. Subscribed!
Awesome video - Thanks bunches !
Jeep was missing manuals and this is 100% different than my '85 CJ 7 !
I just bought a 2018 JL day before yesterday and it's been so much fun!! Sadly, it's still Winter so Summer can't come soon enough!! GREAT VIDEOS!!!! SUUUUUUBBBBEEEDDD!!!!
Congrats on your new addition!
Super easy to do thanks for the video man I appreciate it a lot.
great videos! but for the love of God, how do you fold in the side mirrors. They are so tight. I am afraid to break something. thanks

I bought my JL used & it didn’t come with the tool kit, I also have manual roll down windows so is there anything different I would do?
just got the same exact Jeep to the T. Thank you for the training session. Will put it to use.
Thank you for this video. It made my day so easy
Way better video than Mopar provides.
Great Video Rob!! 😊 Thanks for the help!
Thanks for doing the video, it was very instructional and Well filmed.
Will you do a video on how to put on a soft top on a 4 door JL after taking off the hard top ?
Thanks
We sure will!
What about the auto interior lights? Is the only option to turn them off with the knob and have to adjust the gauge cluster back lighting everytime you start up?
Dumb question. Where is the dang tool kit located? Thanks
I need a hitch receiver for JL. The JK and JL receiver look similar will it fit? Cost is a big difference!
Do the dome lights automatically shut off when you unplug the doors, on a timer, or do you need to rotate the dimmer to off?
Where do you install the mirror since it looks different from the JK?
You buy mirrors on Amazon and once you remove the doors you put the mirrors on the hinges
Or another site other than crapazon.
Here’s my issue. I just removed the front doors and it’s a windy day here. A door closed and the door check is now stuck in the close position. How do I get it to come back out?
oscar davila I put a punch through the hole and pulled really hard. Got to pull out to first notch. Was able to get the bolt started after that.
Will the door stops fit a 2018 JK ?
And can you buy them.
What is the name of the panel covering the wiring connector? I need to replace mine
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
What did they use for bushing on the hinges? Hopefully not metal bushings like ok the JK.
If you take your door off it will be able to run? Cause when you have the doors open it won't run
Can I leave the door bolts out all of the time?
Thank you for this video!!!!
What did they use for bushing on the hinges?
Do people really have issues with rusting in the hinges once those doors are removed?
Really helped a lot 😁

if you take the doors off, what do you do about the mirrors?

Is a Jeep 2019 Sport Wrangler the same set up???
Yeah
getting them off in the Spring for the first time is always a stuggle, Im thinking cherry picker
Can’t tell if those doors are really lightweight or if Rob’s just been bulking up
He has been hitting the gym, but they are lighter too.
so glad with my 2015...... one step remove strap love it
How do you remove the headrest on the rear seats
Thx. Super easy
I wish my rear doors on my 2015 would come off like that. I still can’t get them off without doing something risking damage.
The door checks are a neat idea. I wonder if there will be an accessory for older models?
Andrew Smith there is a company that makes the door retention arms, I believe they are made by a company called Star fabrication
My JK doors are a piece of cake to remove once I changed the factory bushings. Quadratec sells some delrin bushings as replacements.
pmaapl ya it’s weird. My fronts come off no problem. But my backs just won’t. I’ve done as much as I could without damaging stuff trying to get them off.
this video helped me with mine. ua-cam.com/video/TfC1YFY61j8/v-deo.html
pmaapl just watched it. Worth a try thanks.
I have a 2016 JK. Are the doors lighter on the 2018 JL?
Yes they're aluminum
Can we store the doors in the trunk or on the rear seats ?
I know I’m not the owner of his video but yes if u but down the rear seats u can store the doors in the trunk. I recommend putting a towel in between the doors so they don’t get scratched. And make sure are really careful beacuse the mirrors come off with the door

Do you know much much the JL doors weigh?
What happens if the door check hinge goes into the door? How do I get it out?
Did the check arm go all the way in (bracket almost touching the door)? @@Quadratec thank you
Door checks first mod to the trash can!
why?
what the weight of the front door and rear door vs jk's
JK's front doors are 62 lbs and rear are 46.5 Ibs. JL is 47 Ibs in front and 36 Ibs in the rear from what ive seen on a few forums.
Im halfish with jl doors, i love they're alot lighter but, I hate the door checks on them. But ultimately Id take JL doors over JK's
what do you guys do about the side mirrors ?
You buy mirrors on Amazon and attach the to the hinges of the door
Radical!
Sooo...where do they store the "tool kit"?
Is usually in the center console, if you bought new it was wrapped with your owners manual. If you bought used, they tend to disappear.
@@Quadratec Mine has vanished. Oh well. Luckily I have the tools. 👊 Thanks for the video. Very helpful. I would have surely shredded the front electrical plugs.🤣

what abouthe2doorjeepsanolderone?
My mirrors no longer work. No window bolts! Options????

Quadratec I meant my after market Rugged Ridge Mirror’s from my 2014 jk I traded in don’t fit JL with doors off.
We have the style that drop into the door hinges: www.quadratec.com/products/13111_0400_14.htm
Thank you 🙌🏾🙌🏾
a lot lighter than the JK doors thats for sure lol
You're telling me... There's a frickin tool kit. Well I probably don't have one cause mines a 2008 Sahara and i bought it used 😂 😭😭😭
Omg they made the jeep in to a car
Pain in the Ass with removing that freaking wiring harness! No thanks. Glad I drive a TJ. Efff JKU and JL. Too many doors to remove Lol!
JL pros
-body color roll bar
-flat horizontal dash
-lighter/aerodynamics = better MPG
-soft top without ‘cross bar’
-soft top no zippers

-cabin is slightly longer
-possibly the engine(s)
-8 speed transmission
-quicker throttle response
-doors remove easier and faster
JL cons
-the bumpers (front and back)
-front running lights on fender flare
-too much digital visual “noise” on dash
why are you commenting this on every JL video
Brian Murphy probably is a bot.
