That and the new handles make this a much more accessible vehicle for people like her, which is why I love the new JLs.
One correction if this hasn't been addressed already is that you do NOT need to press hold the button until theOne Touch Sky Top is fully opened. Just a quick press and let go. The top will open, on it's own. I've had the hard, soft and now the Sky Touch and by far, the Sky Touch is hands down my favorite. Unless you're driving from the rear cargo area, it's the exact same open air feeling you get with the top completely removed. Don't forget, you can still remove all the doors with the Sky Touch as well as the rear windows. The only draw-back is the additional cost. My second option, if you don't want to spend the extra 4K+, would be the Premium soft top. The hard top is just an all around pain in the you know what and yes, I live in the Northeast and have kept my soft top on in the winter and never felt cold. Yes, the jeep does come with heat folks .....

I love my Jeep! The TFL team does not know that they are a major reason that I got a Jeep Wrangler. I took delivery about a month after this video. Thank you TFL. I love my Jeep!
It would help if the guys reviewing the power top would actually know how to use it. Twice, he mentions that you have to hold the button down to open it all the way. No you don’t. Press the button once for a half second, the top opens all the way. Press it again and it closes all the way. When you hold the button down for more than a half a second, it becomes a manual operation meaning that when you let go, it stops wherever it is. You can operate the top while driving up to 60 mph.
You answered the question I had about operating the top while the car is in motion. That's so convenient if it starts raining while you're driving. I'm surprised they didn't mention it. Thanks
I have the soft top and I love it so easy to put down a s back up and the are quiet compared to the old ones. Going down the highway they don’t flap, what a improvement.
jesse rollins it is very quiet going down the highways they are reinforced a lot better than the old ones, u don’t get that flapping noise anymore. I live in the Capital region of New York where it gets very cold and a lot of snow and it holds the heat just fine. I had like two feet of snow on the top and never even sagged.
@@davedutcher2536 Well, been a Jeep Owner for a while and these vehicles are anything but quiet on the highway ! Go take a ride in a new Ram 1500 before test driving a Jeep ! Quiet is the Ram !
Lew Scagnetti , well naturally a Ram is going to be quieter or any other vehicle. We’re talking about Jeeps and how far they have come. This is my 5th Wrangler first one was a 1980 and u couldn’t hear yourself think. These are totally a different breed now but the same old feeling as my first . Owning a Jeep is totally different from any other vehicle out there , as you should know as you own one.
I was lucky enough to snag a 2018 Sahara with dual tops. I purchased with the freedom top on and a big box with the full soft top was inside . I couldn’t be happier.
Since I live in the Northeast and have to deal with wintery weather I decided to get the hardtop. But I did invest in a Bestop Sunrider so during the summer months I can swap out the Freedom Panels and have the ability to flip the top back and enjoy open sun whenever I want. Best of both worlds in my opinion.
amen i got that setup its the best of both worlds the security of a hardtop and the easy to open ability of the soft top. and if you got a black hardtop you don't notice it unless you are on top of it.
Happy with my hardtop. Looked at the choices and you know, even with going off road, up in the mountains etc.. I will probably never remove the back anyway. The fronts yes. To each his own. That’s the beauty of the Jeep Wrangler. Choices. I went with the hardtop JK Willys and never looked back.
Soft-top Wrangler is great with styling while the roof is all the way back, hard-top is safer, the one touch convertible Wrangler seems perfect to me but i have to be careful with the painted side panels. I would buy the all three.
Ordered my first Jeep Sahara Altitude with the one touch sky roof. Tried for the week-end the 3 piece roof to see how it is removing the doors and the roof. Several aspects made me decide on the one touch sky roof- practicality, worry-free in weather conditions, about the same noise level on the freeway as to the 3 piece roof and hassle free as far as removal and storage. It's going to an adjustment coming from a luxury sedans and suv's to a Jeep, but as my wife says "the kids love the Jeep, you should get it". I know she does too :)
Soft top only. I had a Jeep with hard and soft top too. It’s Too many contraption, no room in the garage. If I buy another Wrangler and I will do it in some point, my Jeep will have only soft top. Great video.
I chose the hard top. I prefer the durability, security and added insulation. While definitely heavier, it isn't too bad (being constructed primarily of fiberglass and Styrofoam). I'm considering a Rhino Liner coating for added abrasion protection.
I just seen yesterday via instagram that Bestop is bringing the JL soft top technology to the JK. So excited about this! I like my hard top, however it is cumbersome and does not allow the entire open air experience at the drop of the dime like a soft top. And because I have a JKU the freedom panels are a tad bit more of a pain to take off. So Jeep did a great job by making the freedom panels easier to take off on the new JLs. Even though the new One Touch Sky Top is expensive it is a great compromise for someone who does not necessarily care to have their top off all the way. Great videos guys! Love the channel & thanks for what you do. You guys single handily helped make our decision on the purchase of our 2018 Power Wagon. Which by the way, "POWER WAGON DON'T CARE!" - Nathan :)
Always see the soft tops down when it's nice out. The hard tops occasionally remove the freedom panels. Soft top is super easy too. Hard to beat. I like the look of the hard top more though.
We stumbled onto a 2018 JK Willy’s with MSRP $39k, got it for $33k because everybody was grabbing new JL’s at the time. I feel like a got a great deal and will keep the JK for a long time to come with prices like this.
These guys are so "carefree" with the vinyl windows...just throwing them in the back. In real life, Jeep owners would be treating those windows like priceless pieces of art.
Just as an FYI-- 1. The unlimited is the only one with a dual top option. The 2 door it is one, or the other. Yes I know the unlimited is the most popular on the road today. 2. If you get the soft top only, your Jeep JL/JLU will not have anything installed for the rear washer or defrost. So if you decide later to get the hard top, everything else will need to be installed later. Price for soft top after purchase is about $2200. 3. The one touch sun thingy top, it is recommended that you DO NOT remove the actual top. I am waiting for delivery of my 2 door Rubicon and decided to get the hard top from the factory. I can get the soft top later and just use a hoist to remove the hard top in the mean time.
I mean there’s no question on which one is better, obviously the one touch sky top. Just comes down to if you have/willing to spend the extra money for it.
Your right Jacob....Hard top is the way to go. More Quiet, insulated and will last longer. Great for air conditioning and heater. Soft top can come later.
I like the idea and the simplicity of the soft top, but I don't think Jeep did a very good job making it look good while open. Based on my experience owning convertibles, including a 1990 Wrangler, vinyl side and rear windows are awful. They fade and there is no option for a rear defroster in a vinyl rear window. I've spent time in Jeeps with removable roof panels, which are nice. But for the ultimate in convenience and flexibility, I'd go for the power sliding canvas top. Wranglers have gotten so expensive and maintain their value so well, that it's a worthwhile option even though it costs so much.
What about option 4? The dual top with both hard and soft tops? Best day of the year is that day in Spring when the hardtop goes in the shed and the soft top goes on... but in the northeast it’s nice having the wiper and defrost on the rear window in the Winter. I personally would never buy that Jeep with the power top. I can so see that breaking in the middle of a downpour and then you in your garage pulling the drain plugs and airing out the carpets.
I think the one-touch power top by costing double the price of the painted hard top makes it a more viable option. Plus the convenience make it so much more livable.
If you live in convertible weather (like SoCal) and you want your top down a lot then soft top is the only way to go. Very easy to put up and down. LOVE the soft top on my JL. Quiet when up and totally awesome all the way down.
I'm between the sky 1 touch and the soft top because the soft top one looks harder to undo but gives you more room and more of a feel to it and the hard top it's easier to undo
You can also do a dual-top option if you can't decide. That's what I would do. Use the soft top in the summer and then come fall swap it with the hard top.
The new soft top is a huge upgrade. There is no flapping or much sound. It's a lot faster to get on and off. The only downside is the scratching on the plastic windows and the back window is ALWAYS in the way to put stuff in the back. Unless you remove the rear window. I don't put a lot of stuff in the trunk or it would be really annoying. I ride with the top off or top back a lot. So it was a worthy trade off. Im much happier with the soft top and it looks better. I get tons of compliments.
definitely love my hard top!!! Not just quieter and more security, I think it looks the best when it’s naked….not a fan of cloth folded up and flapping in the wind
Pro Tip: If you live someplace with seasonal weather and you have someplace to store a hardtop buy it with the hardtop only -- then buy a used soft top on Craigslist for $200-$400. Spend the money you just saved on some 35s.
well said.. I had a hardtop JL and bought a new in box soft top from a guy that bought one off the lot with "dual top option" and had no interest in the soft top.. I paid $500 for the top..used it 2 years ...traded the Jeep in with the HArdtop and resold the soft top for $500.... FREE TOP BABY !!
You guys should have done a closed decibel test on the three tops to see which one is louder. As most people will drive with their tops closed on a day to day basis.
Great video! If the freedom top had removable rear panels that would be the perfect top. In the PNW most of the time its a gravel road till you hit a trail. I feel a Freedom with removable rear panel configuration would be perfect for that . 4 panels and you have open air once you hit the trail, and hard top for rain and cold winter temps.
At the end of the day, my choice would be dependent on where you live. In the area that I currently live, the soft top is a bad option because people have taken a knife to soft top convertibles and it cost the owner a ton of money to fix it. I would buy the hard top for security and temperature reasons. It gets fairly cold here in the winter months. All 3 are awesome BTW.
Yeah, but what is Tommy's choice of the three and in what order of preference? Why don't they offer a hard top version with the feature pop-out rear quarter windows as in the power top?
Sky touch very day! Love it. If your out and about and it rains then you can just push a button and close it no need to get out and pull on a soft top to close it .
I priced out 2 door and 4 door wranglers last year and after market parts and at least then it was cheaper to get a factory hardtop and buy a soft top separate over getting a factory soft top and aftermarket hardtop. Similarly I found it cheaper to get normal full doors from the factory and buy aftermarket half doors instead of getting half doors and buying after market doors. At least back then. I really wish they would make a hardtop that a person could remove themselves without help though.
I drove soft and hard tops only thinking of the noise level on the highway. There wasnt enough difference to pick one over another on that. BUT, what got me was the amount of HEAT that plows thru a soft top vs a hard top. In Florida hot sun this gave the edge to a freedom hard top to me. Plus, you can add heat barrier foam on that and its as quiet and cool as a car. I still want a soft top darnit. But what to do with the windows when you take them out? Get stolen? Fly out the back?
Sky one touch is the most versatile. It has all the factory installed electronics and switches but yet can be removed for the fully naked look, rag top or hard top options...
I think the music for each one summed it up. When the soft top music hits at 2:17....yup. Thats a Wrangler. Hard top, more serious and power top is trying to be something its not, or an old man trying to impress a young woman. Thats why its classic jazz music. Lol. I dont know if the choices were by accident, but very fitting.
I replaced my 98 TJ top with a Best Top sail cloth top, best aftermarket add on I ever put on that Jeep. I don’t know if they make sail cloth for the new Jeeps but if they do spend the little extra money and be done with the shrinking and stretching and flapping around that the regular cloth tops always do. That being said, if I bought another Jeep ( I won’t ) I’d buy the hard top for a bunch of reasons
All you have to do is tap the button to open and close the Sky top. No need to hold the button. Also there is a storage bag for the side windows the fasten to the back of the rear seat.
A 2019 Jeep Wrangler 4 door with all options and sky one touch costs about 120,000 euros over here in Europe. I get that Jeeps are sturdy off road beasts and are built like trucks instead of cars. But let's face it, a lot of us don't use it for that. And even if we do, we're still going to be driving on highways. It's 2019 people. By now we could expect sturdiness and comfort instead of compromising. The one touch is a great update but I'm seriously not sure how much that top can handle when it comes to rain and snow. And my gosh. The fuel and emissions on this thing... I love, LOVE the jeep and everything it stands for but shouldn't a car such as this at least be more eco friendly... I used to think Jeeps and Mother Nature went hand in hand, now I'm not so sure. It's the only thing that keeps me from buying it.
The Sky top is great. It would be a homerun if the back glass was easily removable. I think the JL softtop is worse than the JK. It just looks more obnoxious open or closed. My only problem with the JK softtop was the side window drumming in heavy winds. The Sky top fixes that problem and offers nearly the same open air experience. Price is painful though, just like the rest of the JL. :(
Hardtop is best because if your in a state where you have winter ❄️ weather or a lot of storms you wouldn’t have to worry about your top being ripped. The powertop on the other hand is actually good for a date night with your old lady 😎. IMO I would recommend the hardtop. I don’t take my doors or top off often anyway unless I’m going to Galveston here outside of Houston.
In regards to the road noise. One you tuber did a hardtop vs. soft top highway decibel noise test the soft top was only marginally louder then The hardtop on the JL. I’m personally “torn” love the soft top but living in snowy New England the hardtop makes more sense, ahh heck just buy both, just a pita to store the hardtop. TFL could do a whole video on switching the hardtop to soft and storing hardtop with after market Dolly’s or ceiling winches.
I think if you want high tech (even though it's not that high tech) go for the upgrades but for my Jeep Wrangler all I want is to make sure I have heated seats and a heated steering wheel and power doors and manual transmission. That's really all I need (plus what already comes with it) I prefer hard tops and soft tops cause I enjoy the work. And I'd get a base model like the sport or the sport s because I want to be able to build it myself. I'm a short girl with big dreams.
This was a huge deal for people like my mom. She is handicapped and can’t reach the soft top. Being able to push the top back with one push let her enjoy the freedom of the open air with ease. How could you guys miss the opportunity to do a back-to-back noise decibel test on these 3 with their tops up?
I agree. I am also curious about a noise test with their tops down. Is there a big difference between the 3?

Press the button once for a half second, the top opens all the way. Press it again and it closes all the way. When you hold the button down for more than a half a second, it becomes a manual operation meaning that when you let go, it stops wherever it is. You can operate the top while driving up to 60 mph.
You answered the question I had about operating the top while the car is in motion. That's so convenient if it starts raining while you're driving. I'm surprised they didn't mention it. Thanks
I love how honest this was. So you can make a real decision.
I think the real question is, which functions most efficiently in protecting all that precious cargo from Bed, Bath, and Beyond?
Unless you have a second car, you'll need to chose the hardtop for that.
Maybe Home Depot, don’t know if we’ll have the time.

You’re my boy Blue!
I have the soft top and I love it so easy to put down a s back up and the are quiet compared to the old ones. Going down the highway they don’t flap, what a improvement.
✌️ - O|||||||O -
It is quiet on the highway? Also is it ok in cold weather?
jesse rollins it is very quiet going down the highways they are reinforced a lot better than the old ones, u don’t get that flapping noise anymore.
How much??
Since I live in the Northeast and have to deal with wintery weather I decided to get the hardtop. But I did invest in a Bestop Sunrider so during the summer months I can swap out the Freedom Panels and have the ability to flip the top back and enjoy open sun whenever I want. Best of both worlds in my opinion.
Check out the Sunrider for hardtop made by Bestop. It is a replacement for the freedom panels and works slick.
amen i got that setup its the best of both worlds the security of a hardtop and the easy to open ability of the soft top. and if you got a black hardtop you don't notice it unless you are on top of it.
That’s the compromise I chose for my on order Gladiator. Already have the Sunrider.
Bestop has something good there, and they CLEARLY know it at $800
Yes! I have one for my 2017 JKU and it’s seriously one of my favorite mods.
The hard top rear lifting window gate is also very helpful when loading stuff instead of having that plastic window in the way.
The best top for the Jeep is the 3 piece hardtop with a Bestop Sunrider which replaces the freedom panels.
You guys missed the best option of all, the one I went with: dual top. HT in the summer, ST in the in the winter. And cheaper than the one-touch.

Haha yeah, shes just using the kids as an excuse😆
I like the power operated top because it is the most expensive option. It would make me feel like I'm better than other Wrangler owners.
Soft top only. I had a Jeep with hard and soft top too. It’s Too many contraption, no room in the garage. If I buy another Wrangler and I will do it in some point, my Jeep will have only soft top. Great video.
Roman: What more would you want?
Nathan: Well, hair for one. I would like hair.

These guys need to shop at the Big and Tall Jeep dealership.
Jeep needs to make a retractable hard top and put a rear mirror that rolls down. Problem solved! 😎👍
And ypu are a bullshit. 😡
Poor cameraman in the back seat did all that work & hardly any of his shots were used😁😜😉 I would go for the power soft top.
Just as an FYI--
Oh and if you are really concerned about noise with any of the tops, well you won’t like a Wrangler!
I mean there’s no question on which one is better, obviously the one touch sky top. Just comes down to if you have/willing to spend the extra money for it.
I would get the hard top, and eventually get an aftermarket soft top.
One of the frameless best top's
The camera guy in the back seat LoL
You missed Sunrider for hardtop which is actually a true compromise and wont break your wallet. (I'm running this and loving it)
Sky touch is the best choice by far.Pricey as hell, but best.
Nathan worked the one touch wrong. Just press the button and let go, it goes back by itself
I plan getting One Touch when I buy my Rubicon end of 2020
I'm between the sky 1 touch and the soft top because the soft top one looks harder to undo but gives you more room and more of a feel to it and the hard top it's easier to undo
I have both and love my soft too! It takes all of 30 sec to pop the top back!
You can also do a dual-top option if you can't decide. That's what I would do. Use the soft top in the summer and then come fall swap it with the hard top.
great comparison guys. What about sound insulation when closed ? I suppoe the hardtop is quieter
PH barely. The soft top has come a LONG way.
I had my hardtop coated with linex inside and out and it made a GIGANTIC difference
I think the new Bronco may be addressing that.
I am in PNW too and love this reply!
I love the hard top with the freedom panels. I’ve ran Jeeps with different tops and the freedom/hard is by far my favorite.
Even if you live in a safe area at some point you may have to park in bad neighborhood. So hard top for me makes most sense.
vvk I totally agree. 😎
How about measuring interior sound levels? Otherwise a great comparison!
This is the best video TFL Cars has ever made.
How about hard top w/ Bestop Sunrider? Best of all worlds? Can leave it on in winter too with Black Twill fabric.
The second he pulled the last lever off the soft top I said yes!! I want that one
I can’t wait for them to bring this yellow color back!! My most favorite color 🔥
Yeah, but what is Tommy's choice of the three and in what order of preference? Why don't they offer a hard top version with the feature pop-out rear quarter windows as in the power top?
Ok A. All being there same color is seriously under rated
Sky touch very day! Love it. If your out and about and it rains then you can just push a button and close it no need to get out and pull on a soft top to close it .
Didn't even show how to remove the 1 big back piece. Is the 1 touch top easy to break in like the manual soft top?
The last option is the best in the list with the
I priced out 2 door and 4 door wranglers last year and after market parts and at least then it was cheaper to get a factory hardtop and buy a soft top separate over getting a factory soft top and aftermarket hardtop. Similarly I found it cheaper to get normal full doors from the factory and buy aftermarket half doors instead of getting half doors and buying after market doors. At least back then. I really wish they would make a hardtop that a person could remove themselves without help though.
This was a great reply ! Thank You
6:40 you actually don't have to keep your finger pressed, on long press and will open or close
Forget the soft top.Poor visibility, and they get all scratched up and crack over time.

The northeast is not as forgiving as Ca.
The extremes of heat and cold ruin lots of things.
@@travelinben1966 buy the soft for the summer and the hardtop for the winter.. Thats what I did
I drove soft and hard tops only thinking of the noise level on the highway.
I don’t take my doors or top off often anyway unless I’m going to Galveston here outside of Houston.
is it leaking when it rains?
Every wrangler is SPECIAL 😎✌️
I wanted the soft but got stuck with the hard. And I didn’t know about the rear windows coming out! That would be awesome for dogs!
I work in Carey Ohio at CSP we make the hard tops. I see these things in my sleep! Lol.
What is the road noise between the 3 options. That is what I'd like to know.
It would be hard for me to chose. I like them all.
One touch and hard Top are so cool, thanks for sharing
I think if you want high tech (even though it's not that high tech) go for the upgrades but for my Jeep Wrangler all I want is to make sure I have heated seats and a heated steering wheel and power doors and manual transmission. That's really all I need (plus what already comes with it) I prefer hard tops and soft tops cause I enjoy the work. And I'd get a base model like the sport or the sport s because I want to be able to build it myself. I'm a short girl with big dreams.
hard top with removable sides... that would be perfection
