      Why are you yelling at the cat when the owner is the problem ? The cat doesn't feed itself. I think you do a great job I'm not trying to be disrespectful. But this made you look really bad. Not to mention that the owner has paid you to groom the cat as you insult the owner and the cat. Just seems very disingenuous

      A lot of people who own cats are not much more aware than their cats.... I don't say that out of cruelty or superiority, it's just a fact. I've been personally involved with cases of cat hoarders who insisted all 10 of their cats were perfectly healthy (even though there were 40 and 3 dead ones just laying in the house).
      People like that do love their cats, and the limits of their ability to express that is often ensuring they can eat whenever they want... harm can be done with good intentions, not merely willful neglect.

      Now I feed like six or seven strays that live in the house next door, and it's the same thing.
      I wanna fatten them up, because they're skinny, so I give them all the food they can eat until they just leave it alone.
      They just don't gain weight. Coats are beautiful, but they are skinny and feel so light and hollow.😅

It's equally possible that her current owner is responsible for her size (either by letting her overeat/not exercise or not getting a possible thyroid or other possible health issue addressed if she's been unable to lose weight under a healthy diet), or that she has moved hands from such an owner to someone who's trying to get her weight under control, or that her current owner was originally the former and is trying to turn things around. None of those change my sentiment, which is simply that I hope she recovers before there's permanent damage. We've got to bring him in to the vet to run more tests, but we all suspect that he's got a thyroid condition. The only good thing about Nico is that he does get his exersice since we let him outside for a few hours and he is super playful and runs around the house, but his weight gain is definitely alarming when you consider the fact that it happened so quickly. For a couple months I had to use wet wipes on her backside several times a day and a sponge bath nightly because she just couldn't reach the area, but as we slowly got her weight down from the mid-twenties to the mid-teens she was finally able to take care of the area herself again. Made a big difference in both her coat condition and her overall behavior - it was magnificent to see a confident, affectionate QUEEN emerging from that "I am indifferent to literally everything" shell.

It could just be first time pet owners, who are trying to work on the problem that they unfortunately started. I doubt GWTD would have made sassy comments about her if her pet parents weren’t aware of the issue and fine with the shade thrown. When I adopted my cat almost 2 years ago she was severely obese after living with a doting old lady for the first 4 years of her life. She has been on a diet and exercise regime ever since (now to maintain the healthy weight she has achieved), but it had to be slow going since cats get sick if they loose weight too fast.

    That is one of the prettiest calico coats I've seen in a while, and the blue eyes were gorgeous too. I have a friend with an orange tabby male who is every bit as large as Ally. His name is Rudy and he is constantly being put on diets and diet food, yet he just keeps getting wider. He was surprisingly active and agile until he hit 8 years old. Now his weight is starting to tell. His owner feels so bad about the struggle to slim the boy down because she is being massively judged by her vet and everyone that meets Rudy, and she is trying everything short of not feeding him at all and chaining him to a treadmill. It's possible that Ally's owner is also struggling to get her to a decent weight, so we shouldn't be too quick to judge.

    • @ArDeeMee
      @ArDeeMee Рік тому +28

      Tell your friend to not switch around diets. Do one thing that keeps him healthy, and just stick with it. Serial dieting makes you really good in developing and preserving fatty tissues.
      Give him what he needs to be a healthy kittie. Either the rolls drop, or not, and that’s just the way it is. Consistency is key, always the same amount of food, at the same time, no deviations. Several small meals spread out over the day, etc.
      Round people & pets deserve love, too. =)

    • @GoddoDoggo
      @GoddoDoggo Рік тому +23

      If his weight changed very rapidly with little to no change to his diet or lifestyle, your friend should have her cat checked for weight-related medical issues, like hypothyroidism. Additionally, constantly changing "diet foods" will not help the cat; he needs a high-protein, high-moisture, ideally non-grain food fed to him at regular intervals in portions of a slight caloric deficit to help him lose weight. This would likely mean quite small portions 3 to 5 times a day to keep him from being hungry until he gets down to a manageable weight, at which point he could transition to 2 to 3 times a day. He should also have regular strenuous play a couple of times a day, or a walk if he is amenable to a harness.
      Many people feel they aren't feeding their cat "anything at all" and "starving" them when the cat is given spoonfuls of food for a meal, but the fact is that cats are very, very small, and they do not require that many calories to function. This is why so many cats get obese, because owners feel that the daily recommended diet is not enough, and end up feeding the cat way more than they need.

      Well, unlike humans who can decide to do something about their weight themselves, animals dont exactly understand dieting generally. Cats are the worst, since its a lot harder to make a cat get exercise, than it is to take a dog for a walk or play.

      @@twelvecatsinatrenchcoat yeah it's "incredible" for that brief moment when they eat, but it condemns them to endure through a lot of pain and suffering, especially as they get old. Increased risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hyper tension, arthritis/joint degradation (very painful), organ failure, endocrine issues, etc., it goes on. As this groom shows, these obese cats can't even clean themselves so they have a constant rashy/itchy, dirty arsehole. Don't really see what is so incredible about this. It's not fair to them.

      @@mashajacaranda807 Yeah, that's great. And while that specific story is a tricky one, it's still neglect. My Grandmother has Alzheimer's and I wouldn't trust her with a cat. She has a doll that she thinks is real, but she still holds it upside down and puts it in a drawer. Regardless, the fact of the matter is, the majority of over-feeding cases are due to people just giving in when their cat begs for food.

      I think the word "abuse" is rather harsh in this instance, given that the first owner had Alzheimer's and had difficulty remembering when she had fed her. Overfeeding a cat like that could certainly be labeled abuse for an owner in full possession of his or her faculties, but here I think the neglect is unintentional.

    • @PhattyBolger
      @PhattyBolger Рік тому +274

      Neglect is still neglect- intentional or not. It doesn't necessarily have to be malicious. Regardless, cats shouldn't be made to suffer. If someone is unable to care for their pet, they shouldn't be allowed to keep it. It's a sad situation, but a pet's health and wellbeing should always be the priority.
