Max is down almost 5 lbs :)
We adopted him December 2022 after we took Loqui and Snowy to get bathed by GWTDs. We love Maxi and slowly but carefullt he will get down to 18lbs
It will be so worth it... my childhood cat has been slowly but surely losing weight (my mom and younger siblings have been working with the vet to manage his weight). Now he is finally a healthy weight, and even though he is a senior, he is more playful and energetic than he's been in years! He is so happy and comfortable now. I will say, depending on Max's age, he may get loose skin. Just like in humans, the skin can have a hard time adapting to significant weight loss and it may not shrink with him. My childhood cat has extra skin. It doesn't bother him, just be mindful when grooming.

Thank you for adopting Max. He's a handsome boi and looks well cared for now. It's difficult to get cats to lose weight in a healthy manner-you're doing a great job! I had to do something similar with/for one of my cats. She lived a long time. I miss her every day. Give Max a tummy scritch for me.

Max's owners recently adopted him from a local shelter and they immediately placed him on a diet. His weight is the responsibility of the previous owner.

The best way to do it is talk lol
Cats see us like they're an owner and we're just pets, and owners like when pets response to them when they talked to them, like meowing or barking.
In this case, if a cat is meowing to you, and you meows back, it makes the cat confused

@@tempinformalit is, when they're babies, meowing is considered as crying to cat. When they grow up they don't have to cry anymore because they can hunt themselves but that's for wild cats. House cats still cry because they know it's the only way to call the owner aka their pet, meowing back when they call you to a cat is just like you tell your son to come to you then he come and start crying for no reason.
He's probably the most tolerant cat I've ever seen, what a sweet boy
The cat I live with is way more blaze. You can brush his teeth/put fingers in his mouth without issue. He gets annoyed at rough kids or pets but he never even growls let alone hisses. He's only ever clawed anyone cause he was startled/slipped, he is actually aware his claws hurt me. He also is aware I hate when he brings me dead lizards, so he brings me live ones and let's them loose inside. 🤣 better than dead but a bit annoying after lizard 5.

I love how in the beginning he is happy and comforted by being groomed, but by the end he's all grouchy and mad at you and just sits there as you groom her.

I know he's a chunky boy, but the fact that he is so friendly and open to belly rubs and petting tells me he is a friendly cat and had an owner who loved him very much and spent a lot of time with him and loving on him. At least that's my theory, I would hope he wasn't abused, but if he was and he's still such an incredibly lovely boy he must be an angel on earth.

i once adopted a 25 lb cat, and i can tell you for a fact that the reason he was so rotund is because his previous owners loved him more than anything. He was their son, he had his own sofa and room full of toys, they just couldnt resist giving him everything he wanted. And unfortunately he only liked the trashiest food.
During the Renaissance being fat was associated with good humor, generosity, and extroversion. This cat gave me strong Renaissance fat man vibes.

well..its a CAT...and vets recommend NOT BATHIG a cat as in..EVER...except for it being DIRECTLY dirty...soo...it having feecies of another cat ON ITS FUR per example...but somehow the internet is FULL of videos of people just outright abusing their cats and pets. And then youre the bad guy for pointing out they shouldn't do that. But the hypocrisy does it for me you no. These are the very same people that will go onto other videos and call them abusive and what not and advocate for people to stop eating veal and what not.

he probably can't normally reach there to groom comfortably at his weight - when my cat had to wear a cone post spaying, she went from a 'touch my belly and die' cat to a 'touch my belly or else' cat. stopped once the cone came off though.

Before he passed away I had a rescued stray cat who LOOOOVED belly rubs. Now I live with a roommate who has a cat who also loves belly rubs. It's such incredible luck. Of course they are both black cats.

@@kiera6326 - Never underestimate a chonky cat’s willingness to get on a counter for food. We had a chonky Persian growing up and she was still agile and quick to get to high places…especially when food was involved. 🤣
We have no kids in the house and child locks on all the cabinets because of one very invasive feline. Can confirm that things that stop human children also stop cats!

Surprisingly lots of cats like belly rubs, it's just a matter of how trusting they are of the person and their personality, as well as other factors like how sensitive they are. My cat LOVES her belly rubs, she'll roll over and scream for them, it's so cute.
My son loves belly rubs too, especially when he's sleepy ♥ he will roll over and open up. Also loves neck scratches. Sweet baby boy.

One of my cats loves belly rubs, the other doesn't. The one that does- every morning when I get out of bed, she runs to about a foot and a half in front of the door, rolls belly up, and yells at me until she gets her belly rubs.
It's not a matter of trust, it's just a matter of liking it or not. My cat trusts me with her life but would kill me if I ever tried to go near her belly. Meanwhile, I've been able to give belly rubs to random street cats.

We had a 20 lbs cat. He wasn't fat, he was just so dang long and tall. He was FOOD MOTIVATED to the max. He figured out that he would get fed at 5pm when my dad came home from work. So at 4pm, he'd cry at me, and cry and cry, so I'd fed him. An hour later, he'd cry and cry and cry to my dad, as if I'd starved him. My dad told me I really needed to start feeding him earlier. I suddenly realized how long this had been going on and I just stared at this cat. Clever boy....
My roommate's chunky orange tabby (he is also long and tall - but he is carrying a little too much, despite her best efforts with him) will do something similar. Knowing cats are like this, when I feed him in the afternoon I'll tell my roommate when she gets home "Don't believe his lies."
My cat did that also except he did that to everyone in the house. Heck even my when my grandparents would visit he would go to my grandma and act like we didn't feed him.

cuz there used to be a jolly family of squirrels and chipmunks which devoured seeds/nuts from our bird feeder.. now there’s only 1 chunky boy left when they used to be like 3-4….😳 he’s gotten into fights with skunks & opossums so now we keep him inside.. The 1 thing he refuses to do is walk on a leash tho unfortunately..

We adopted a very fat cat when I was younger, and he adored belly rubs. In fact he loved being picked up on his back, and having belly raspberries. He was extremly affectionate, and had the loudest purr. He never used to meow and only the occasional chirp. He did not appreciate his diet, but he was such a lovely boy.
My chatty's not the biggest fan of hugs and kisses, but he loves belly rubs and cheek scritches, especially on the side where he's missing his back leg.
My chatty Spooky is 14lbs, purrs like a chainsaw, and with no brain cells activity to speak of, gives approximately 0 fucks what you do with/to her as long as you scritch under her chin and chant her name at her in a sort of spook-spook-spook-spook way.
He is so sweet and cute and I love his spots and little meow! I love this MAXimum man so much! ❤❤❤

I love how he stretches his leg to help Vanessa get to those hard to reach areas. He's showing so much trust in her.
So incredibly cool to see how his entire body language changes depending on mood. Before the bath, he looked "normal". And he even wanted some belly scratching/rubs. After getting dried, I could see how he was more or less in a defensive stance continuously, tail curled right up beside the body and *that facial expression*. And no more belly rubs. He was clearly so pissed, that he denied treats only further showed just *how* mad he was.
yep plus the fact baths stress out cats and it isn't recommend you give your cat one because they can wash themselves unless its for medical reasons. for example your cat has no Toung and us uncapable to groom themselves then that's when you step in and give them baths and stuff.
@@ambertherainwing4761the problem with that is when they're senior cats and can't clean themselves that well you have to introduce them to baths. It's much better to introduce baths at a young age rather when they're 90 in cat years.
yeah i didnt understand that part. my family had a cat for almost 20 years and at times my father would just wet him with relatively cold water during hot summers where the cat would be visibly hot, strecthing on glass and stuff like that. and he would always dry relatively quickly. he first would just do a motion where half of the water would be thrown out, and then would lick himself almost dry. then quickly dry to completely. so 1. dont understand bathing unless for very specific reasons 2. dont understasnd drying, the cat of course is super stressed after that she can barely eat something because her nervous system is in distress@@ambertherainwing4761

One of my boys adores having his belly brushed. He sees a brush in someone's hand and immediately rolls over.

I got an elderly fat cat from the rescue. He weighed 25 lbs. We loved having Randolph. Moat loving and sweetest cat. He was with us for only 3 months and is still missed.

Aww he looks like my old cat Mickey, I adopted him at 9 years old, he was 26lbs. Got him down to about 16 after strict diet and exercise/play. He used to protest outside my bedroom door for crunchies at night and would sit on my face in the morning to wake me up for breakfast. He miraculously made it to 16. I loved him so much.

Yeah, my guy Benny is the first cat that encouraged belly rubs by rolling over, as well. He's also the only cat I've ever known to literally not care about anything. You can mess with his paws and tail and he just does not care. He's insanely laid back and has never, ever gotten mad nor even irritated. It's crazy. The only thing he cares about, aside from food, is getting pets. He'll even reach out and touch your hand to remind you to do so.
Yes my cat esmee does that to...she loves pets and belly rubs and scratches under her chin and loves pets. I can play with her 7 toe beans and she couldn't care less
That's also what my dad's cat is like. The name is Whiskey and we also sometimes joke that someone must have filled him up with whiskey to be so laid back and not give a care in the world what you're doing.

He's already lost 5Ilbs , according to the new owners who adopted him & posted further up. Hopefully he's going to have a fabulous life now.
My Liam got up to around 22 lbs. But he is really long and tall so even his vet didn't think he looked fat at all. Of course, when he was diagnosed as a diabetic, we worked on getting his weight down. In February when he had dental surgery he was done to 18 lbs 9 oz. He was able to stop insulin about 7 months after he was diagnosed.

Lol, I wonder if when he loses weight this cat will still just be bigger than others. some cats are just made big. My vet has a big orange cat that lives in the office and it is like 18 pounds but the vet says he is actually only a couple pounds overweight rn! he is just a little lion naturally lol

What a cute baby. My own kitty, Nugget, was born on the streets but she's such a sweetheart. Head rubbies, chin skritchies, and belly pats until my hand falls off lol. She's also a little mischief maker and Queen of the top of the fridge 😅

Oh man, Max reminds me so much of one of my previous cats, Stanley. The chungy stature, the belly rubs, the 'I'm not cool with any of what's happening to me but actually doing anything about it would be too much work' attitude. Stanley-man loved his belly rubs...gosh I miss my grumpy ol' man cat.

I have a big boy too! He is slowly losing weight and the only way we can tell is that he is becoming more active, he doesn't really look smaller. At his last vet visit, while he was exploring the room, he laid down for the vet and showed her his belly for belly rubs. We were all blown away. Max kind of reminds me of him.
