We have renamed our bags “get home bags”. Getting stranded in a snowstorm on the way home from work becomes a non event. We have used our bags many times if nothing else for a snack and a bottle of water when while getting stuck in road construction. It doesn’t have to be an emergency to be useful.

Unfortunately the past few decades have been all about convenience and disposable, single use goods and we have not been trained to prepare for anything. Thank you for including mobile preparation as a topic for discussion.

Many Thxs from California for this spot on info and clarifications in areas! Regarding people who criticize you, love your come back thoughts on the subject at hand! Just keep in mind not all people have had the opportunity to experience emergencies yet, as well as others may not have the intellectual cognition to understand the reality of what could and is happening here in the US and around the world! Blessings to all!🌹🙏🏽👍🏽😊

I absolutely agree with you in that being prepared whether for unexpected emergencies or illness, allows for a less fearful experience. The practice of having a plan in place with some supplies allows us to operate outside of fear or in a state of panic. 2020 showed us a lot of things but one of them is how having a store of food and supplies can be helpful both for ourselves and for those who do not have any extras put away. An unplanned power outage reveals quickly where we are lacking even at home never mind finding yourself away from home. Great info today, I plan on sitting in on the class and I’ll be getting a list together for an emergency bag for the car. My husband is a truck driver and I put an emergency bag together for the semi several years ago. Now I need to do the same for our cars!

Thanks for covering this. So many scenarios where this information would be critical.

Get home bag is critical. If you’re driving around in a company vehicle, that bag will have the things you need to WALK HOME! Water, snacks, blanket or headlamp. If you’re an hour drive from home, it could take a long time to get home 🤨

As a nurse for 20 yrs I have kept a bag in my car for any medical emergency snd hsve grown to food, ect. No shame in being a prepper. We should have learned since Covid.

We have all learned a lot after going through the pandemic for us now it's better to be pro active instead of reactive so being prepared is an added since of peace .

I used to work out of town so I had a pack to get home if there was an earthquake that shut down roads or whatever I knew I could get home in 2 days hike, roads or no. I still keep extra supplies in the car in case of emergency, and in house for the same reason.

I have a "get home" bag in my car, which is just in case my car breaks down. I agree, it makes no sense to get home in case of a true emergency, unless you have to gather your family. I'm working on a "bug out" bag to have, but I agree that your home is the best place for us for most emergencies. So it's sort of a new idea for me to keep a "bug out" bag in the vehicles. This has been a real learning podcast, thank you.

If you’re going to keep your bag in your car, what can you put in there that can handle the heat (or cold) extremes cars a subjected to? And how often do you have to rotate these items?

Look into lifeboat rations. That's what I keep in our car because it's designed to be subjected to extreme heat.

A 'Bug Out Bag' should be able to get you home, if that is where you are headed, but it needs to be so much more, so you can survive if you cannot go back home.

You know what you need and your capabilities. If you don’t, get out with what you think you need and see if it works. Improve on it. It’s on you alone. The internet “experts” won’t be there if/when it’s necessary.
