  • What I love most about growing fruit and nut trees is that you're building your food resiliency with something that ultimately takes very little care or maintenance. So, what nut trees should we grow on a homestead scale, how do we tend to them, and what are some tips for harvesting and pest protection?

We have 300 black walnut seedlings on our back field and are planting another 450 next month and maybe 600 next spring, so this was perfect timing! We are planning on using them as a long-term investment (retirement in 30-40 years) but have found a co-op to buy the walnuts when they start producing.

I'd love to grow some trees. Unfortunately, I have a small yard. Our sewer system gets affected by tree roots. (There were regular trees when the houses were originally built and roots have affected most of the houses. I also have power and phone lines going across my back yard. I don't have any full trees in my actual yard. But, a bunch of large trees bordering on three sides against the fence line. I would need some sort of dwarf trees w roots that don't get too deep or large to affect the sewer system.

As busy as you are, with events and podcasts and videos, how do you find time for everyday life on the homestead? I have nothing extra going on and can't find enough time to properly tend my garden.

Hello,Ina few episodes back you mentioned you had neck surgery.Did they take out a large clot that they may have called a tumor..? People are talking about this and are blaming the Covid Vaccines .People are dying from these clots.Did your doctors explain what exactly how your tumor came about..? No, I didn't have the vaccine. Mine was a giant lipoma that had been growing for years and had reached a point where it was affecting nerves. You can't mistake a clot for a visible tumor...

We had a 40+ foot tall pecan tree in Anaheim, California. The crows came every year, telling me when the nuts were ripe. I picked up buckets full that the crows dropped. Then the last 3 years living there, the wild Parrots came every morning and night until the tree was clean of nuts. Not a single nut hit the ground. I would attach a picture here if I could.
My neighbor grew macadamia nuts. Took ten years to start producing.
