  • There were celebrations for 140 men and women who have passed out of Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) in Devon.
BRNC is where men and women journey from being ordinary civilians to officers in the Royal Navy.
They have completed a 29-week course and now with their pass-out ceremony, they cease being officer cadets and become midshipmen, sub-lieutenants or lieutenants.

I thought the title meant passed out, due to heat wave, ie fainted.
Sorry, not a naval person, but congratulations to everyone there, proud of you all.

Question: "You're close-hauled on the port tack, beating up the channel with a north-easterly wind blowing strong, with Dover bearing north two miles. The wind veers four points, taking you flat aback. What do you do, sir?"

Let`s hope it isn`t a hot day when the Russians decide to attack. God help us. In 1976, I was at HMS Daedalus in Lee-On-Solent and we stood in a guard of honour, out on the airfield apron, waiting for the Sultan of Oman to arrive for a visit. Needless to say, it was a rather warm day but it didn`t change any of the arrangements.

@@davericketts9101 Finished my Tiffy Training there in Summer '76. I do remember one very hot Friday afternoon Divisions that summer when there was a holdup with the Officer taking the salute. We were stood easy and the only time I ever heard 'Off Jackets' was given. Not an easy task for those in the square rig of the day. Also, there were a number of those in fore and aft rig whose shirts seemed to lack sleeves, had slits up the back etc. It took about 30 secs for the order 'On Jackets' to be given and we stood sweating for the next 20 mins or so.
