- After many weeks of hard labour, these men and women finally walk up the steps of the Dartmouth Britannia Royal Naval College and become Royal Navy Officers.
Also a very touching speech by the Second Sea Lord!
I thought I would start my first naval video the right way, as I live in the heart of the Royal Navy, do expect to see tanks but also naval content! I sincerely hope you enjoy this video!

I'm just an American wishing to congratulate all of these new sailors joining the Royal Navy. My dream is to join the Navy as well, hope to meet you all out at sea. Much love 🇺🇸 🤝 🇬🇧
The Britannia Naval College is for officers but I suppose they still count as sailors..
Try to spot our Blame Billy! I am so proud of him!

Who is Blame Billy?
@@OzDeaDMeaT Blame Billy has been a member of the WoT community for quite some time, he is a friend of mine, Jingles and Circon and has done a lot of work for the CIRC clan in WoT in the past. He's an extremely intelligent fella that can fluently talk multiple languages and even read hieroglyphs, on his way to becoming a Submariner! Oh and forgot, he's everyone's Scapegoat!
@@RitaGamer Thanks for replying Rita, Submariner, that is a tough gig, I hope it works out well for him. Sorry I didn't know who Billy was.
@11:25 I found Wally!
Academy uniforms remind me of British uniforms from Sink the Bismarck or The Longest Day. Gotta love tradition
BRNC doesn't have an 'academy uniform' so to speak. All uniforms worn, be it the daily working dress or the No.1 dress uniforms are the same as the wider navy. All Officer Cadets wear the dress uniform of a Midshipman (the first commisioned rank) with white tabs on the arms until their pass out parade for which they are removed. Those who have come from the non-commissoned rates (known as Upper-Yardmen) will pass out with rank of Sub-Lieutenant.
Scroat!
Getting doctors to march - challenging!
I found it interesting that the marching band was playing the Christmas carol Joy to the World at the beginning and Auld Lang Syne at the end. Congrats to all the Cadets on graduating!
This happened last December that's why! :D
@@RitaGamerOh jolly good. Thank you for the clarification.
@@TheFlatlander440 No worries! :D
The Officer Cadets are allowed to vote on what music the RM Band plays during the inspection phase of the parade.
The March at the start sounded like something from star wars.
Congratulations, graduates, and God bless!!!
Proud to have graduated from this amazing school. Hawke Division and proud of it
Thank you Rita. You really rock lady!
Amazing sound quality Rita!
Could not find Waldo...sorry, Billy.
It worries me that although the RN may be growing "in terms of tonnage" it is declining in terms of numbers of combatants and in terms of combat effectiveness.
And ships
Hella cool ceremony. The Brits have had quite a years to perfect it. Good job Billy. Congratulations fair seas. D.
All our state and military ceremony are amazing
Billy looks proper dapper & resplendent in the uniform makes me proud to be apart of the commonwealth :D But Rita looks alright too... ;)
Congratulations to everyone out there.
That's the way these parades should be done - with Auld Lang Syne at the end. The Royal Air Force do the same thing with a march up the steps and Auld Lang Syne too. So does Army officer training at Sandhurst College.
i had visited youers akademi as russuian navy kadet 1993
Good luck to graduates. Live long and prosper.
Did some marching in high school bands. Sousaphones and tubas.
What's the name of the song played at the beginning of the video
Serious you can definitely see a lack of the old school; Whale island DI , out of step , would never have happened back in the old days
There was one young lady, I believe she was passing out as surgeon lieutenant-commander, does anyone know how you can pass out at that high of a rank?
Édit: commander -> lieutenant-commander
Fully qualified doctors become medical officers in the British Armed Forces and pass out in all of the services at the nato rank of OF-2 or higher depending on their medical experience and qualifications. I presume the young lady was either a fully qualified GP or a registrar in a hospital speciality to have passed out at OF-3.
Was interesting to see ranks passing out higher than SubL. Why's that? Anyone know. Do you have to return to Dartmouth for more training to become a Lieutenant Commander?
Doctors and dentists. Up to Lt Cdr on joining.
Other nations as well
Is it compulsory to carry a Sword? I've seen officer pass outs with and without swords. What's the actual difference?
Royal Navy Officers on full ceremonial parade will always carry a sword
Officer Cadets from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary attend BRNC for a few weeks and pass out alongside Officer Cadets from the Royal Navy; those joining the RFA do not carry swords as they are a civilian organisation within the MoD. The rest will be cadets still undergoing training at the College
@@paulobrien6978 doctors as medics should not be carrying swords!
@@merlinonline67 why not?
@@merlinonline67 What if they need to amputate someone?
why are there subbies and two ringers in rank and file? different joining quals?, and are female master at arms, called mistress?
Dartmouth is where junior officers START their training. Graduates, doctors, nurses etc enter with seniority according to their experience hence one and two ringers in the same squad. Their course will probably be about 12 weeks and there is little time for Parade Training.
In the old days much more time devoted to initial training there. Cost cutting hit all the Armed Forces and, in 2019, parts of the College were too dangerous to enter.
This is my dream.... 💗💗💗💗
Good job on the Parade!
While the Marines are pros at this, It's always fun to see the Navy make attempts at marching in formation :P
Quite a few out of step, painful to watch =P
@@lavrentivs9891Lavrentivs goddamit guys! xD ahah
They were doctors and dentists. Be charitable.
Is it just me or does the Navy uniform just look like suits with some bits added :) Would be interested in which 12 countries it was?
Its like fighting on Pokemon Gymnasium, every time you defeat a leader you get a stripe added!
It's just you .....
I am looking for a video to graduate in 1981 because my father is a graduate of that year (please help me)
Private Message me on Facebook (link is in the description) will see what I can do for you but no promises.
Wait one second... This is the December 2018 pass out because I’m there and that’s mildly terrifying 😂😂
To clarify I’m in the RFA division
hi dude, I'm about to go into the RFA as a cadet. Is it as strict as the RN BRNC initial training? not gona lie im terrified with all the royal navy looking strict stuff. Are there RFA cadets here in this ceremony yeah???
They may not have ships nor planes but they still have a band, cool 😎
No ships? I guess you are german
so to find billy look for the shortest one there...
wow dem fighting words! ahah
@@RitaGamer lol
i think passing out mite not have bin the best title for this vid maybe Graduation parade .
It is what is called, sir, a Pass out parade. But same thought crossed my mind. ahah
@@RitaGamer It has been known to be literal if it is hot enough!
@@magecraft2 thankfully Billy's was in December! I never tried to hard to keep the camera stable as my body just wanted to shiver from how cold it was on top of that mountain!
I've known of people breaking jaws or noses when collapsing in the heat.
ich war russischer Marinkadet zur Besuch 1993
Dang, the female combination cover, or whatever the cover is called looks nice and unique. USN got rid of that style now. It's all male caps now.
Stinger913 it’s called a tricon it does look good .
Why men and females should have different headress?
@@keijomattinen5447 Tradition
It’s also a pond when it rains heavily
still not sure why female soldiers don't wear peaked caps
Most female commissioned and non-commissioned officer share the same sentiment. They're particulaly bad in the rain where they become head mounted ponds. At least they don't have to wear skirts like the RAF.
@@jensonkiin3678 pfft head-mounted ponds. didn't know things could get THAT bad. but what's wrong with skirts? too breezy? or are pants more comfy?
@@Wolvenworks Nothing wrong with skirts but alot of female sailors didn't like being forced to wear them for whatever reason. Skirts are really only worn as part of mess dress these days
@@jensonkiin3678 fair point. having it as optional sounds reasonable. still not sure why females don't wear peaked caps tho. like i think they'd look better with those than what looks to be a hat stuck in 50s misogyny
Difficult to understand why men and women should have different uniforms. What ever the service branch.
Really enjoyed the commentary that told us why you were there, and explained so much... not
I was there for the free buffet, clearly! :P
To be honest, the buffet was pretty good
Was Wondering if any jamaican on the passing out Parade...the Jamaica defense force coast guard send officer cadets there for navel training.
their timing is awful at 12:00
Those are RFA (civilians) not military.
Well, they are officers
They are in the RNA not the RN so they are civilians
Awful drill.
Matthew Reid well... We are officers after all 😂😂😂
