We have a sailing on Odyssey in 3 weeks and our room is 6164. So glad I ran into this video, cause I can actually see our balcony from where you filmed! Was slightly surprised at the view, but at least I fully understand what to expect now!
Many thanks for your video! Do you know if it's guaranteed to have a sea view with every obstructed balcony room and be able to open the windows as you did? Many thanks!
If you book a guarantee room (non assigned room number) within a category (ie, inside, outside or balcony) then they have to keep you within that category or better. So if you book a balcony GTY you will definitely get a balcony. In my case I got probably the worst of the balcony choices but its the luck of the draw and I say assume the worst and then you will be happy if you get better (which I typically do). I don't think, on this ship anyway, there are more obstructed views than what I received. Most times i've had obstructed they have been better than this, typically looking DOWN at a lifeboat not through. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks.
Thanks for the video. Very useful as also planning to book same for Greek Island cruise in May 2024. Will the weather be stormy and rough as concern about motion sickness due to rough seas. Which month did you travel and where?
This was a November 2021 Caribbean cruise and was super smooth. The larger ships tend to handle the motion in the ocean well. I've only sailed the Med once and there are parts that are pretty choppy but not really qualified to give good advice on that.
Great video Rich, I’m sailing with the odyssey of the sea next may and I’m thinking of getting the obstructed balcony since it’s 600 usd cheaper. Is the view going to be better if I booked it in the 7th floor instead of the 6th? And do you think it’s better to book in the mid ship or the back of the ship? Appreciate your advice
I'm pretty sure the 7th floor obstructed are very different, your view is obstructed downward instead of head on but I can't say I'm exactly familiar with those rooms on this particular ship. I've had obstructed like that before on other ships and, to me, it was not much of an issue when (unlike this which is a major view inhibitor). As for location, most folks prefer mid ship especially if you are worried about ship movement. Think see-saw and realize that the far ends exhibit more motion than the center. With mega ships like this though, the difference is less pronounced imho, as they are pretty steady in the water. The other thing to consider is location to stairs/elevators (typically 1/3 the way in/back from the ends). Those folks who have mobility issues tend to try and stay close as a 7 day cruise can put a ton of mileage on your footwear so that may be a concern. For me I prefer the opposite as I like walking to help cull the calorie uptake and I actually REALLY enjoy the motion in the ocean but I'm definitely the minority here. Oh some ships they do charge you more for centrally located rooms so if you are bargain hunter be wary of that.
Because prices change constantly both with the sail date and within categories, its hard to say. There are sometimes even quirks with the supply/demand calculations used by lines.bots were lesser rooms can be more expensive. For this cruise the cost of a GTY balcony was the same for me as an inside cabin. GTY/Guarantee bookings guaranty you a room within that category but the cruiseline picks your actual room. I always assume the worse and this time I got it lol. I believe at the time it wouldve been $200 more to pick my balcony room. I've gambled before and this is the first time I've been slightly disappointed.
When I booked it, it was a guarantee so I never saw any % estimate. I'd say 75% is a good guess though. I honestly didn't think you could get this obstructed but alas I found out otherwise. Still a decent room for the price I paid and better than an inside for sure so I was happy nonetheless.
Thanks for sharing. Will be on a tour next month and we got the obstructed view deck 6. This gives us an idea of what to expect.
Ik heb in juni 6704 iemand ervaring mee of beetje uitzicht heb.

Do you mind if I ask you how the view was?
Thanks for the video!
Thank you! This was so helpful!
I kinda like the lifeboat view. Especially for a major discount. However I wouldn’t love the lights at night. Beautiful room.
That was hilarious about the headboard

Are you given a BIG discount for a balcony with the lifeboat view?

I have exact same view (cry)....
What percent of obstructed was that 75%?
Same question
