- DKOldies has been getting a lot of negative press lately, so I went ahead and placed an order for some video games and an accessory with them to see what my experience would be.
FAQ
Q: Why didn't you buy a console?
A: Because I didn't want a console, and I don't want to buy a console just to make a video about what many other channels have already covered. Not to mention that buying a console only further benefits DKOldies.
Q: Why are you ignoring the issue at hand?
A: I acknowledge the issues that other people have experienced in the beginning of the video. But I don't believe that flooding UA-cam with videos bashing DKOldies will solve anything. Most people who watch these videos already know not to buy consoles (or anything at all) from DKOldies, so these videos are really just for entertainment purposes.
Q: Why is the video title clickbait?
A: Video titles and thumbnails are, by definition, clickbait. They are meant to draw attention to your video. UA-cam even encourages this. If you believe the title is misleading, that was not my intention. I did place an order with DKOldies. I did not claim that the order was a console.
Q: What is the point of this video?
A: To see what stuff I did order and the condition they are in. It's essentially a pickups video, which I have done many times for other orders I have placed in the past from other stores.
Q: I think you made this video just to capitalize on the algorithm.
A: I made this video for the same reason I made all of my other videos: To express myself and to share my interests and hobbies with the viewer. At the same time, as a content creator, making videos about trending topics is an easy way for people to discover your channel and is sometimes necessary for channel growth. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. It's just how UA-cam works.

You didn’t have to create this video either because you clearly missed the point of the flak DK Oldies is getting and very much are capitalizing in the algorithm or else this trash wouldn’t have popped up in my feed.

people are upset because they say refurbished but they dont refurbish at all they only open the console and clean the console if something isnt working and needs something inside to be replaced , they claim that is what they do and its a lie
They don't even open it to fix things, people have gotten broken consoles
RTU literally bought a 260$ OG XBOX got a 3rd party controller it couldn't read the discs well, and 4 capacitors were swollen, so I'm pretty damn sure it's not a lie and they didn't even open it once

All of the negativity is about refurbished systems and how they claim they clean every system but they don’t. I don’t think a few games are going to have an issue. But props to you for hooking your mom up with a new controller. Animal Crossing is life!

Technically that isnt the original animal crossing. The original animal crossing came out only in Japan on N64.

Hey man I just wanted to say good job on capitalizing on the algorithm and I mean that it brings me a lot of pleasure personally as a viewer and as someone who likes to see other people succeed for you to get a shot at more views from what I can tell you deserve it man keep up the good work

Agreed, respect for the man.
They dramatically changed their business model into making the Shorts content and even after that, they started doing less of the nostalgia bait and are using Joey to create their social media brand with the mail/order time videos. It’s simply that the more popular UA-camrs are just now hearing about them I guess and therefore buying from them to more thoroughly see their “refurbish” work all the while spreading awareness.
You probably missed it and didn’t upgrade to the Original Xbox case😂
When I sell PS1/2/3 games, I might hit them with some lens/screen cleaner and a cleaning cloth if it's pretty grimy, but I'd never waste my time buffing every disc with some minor scratches. lol. I do a read test to make sure no sectors have any read errors, and then that's it. If a CD spun up at 40x speed, DVD 16x, or BD 12x on my LG drive and my imaging software didn't detect a single read error, it's not going to have any issues on console. If there's a difficult section on the disc, the drive will typically slow down which I can see on report after the check. That's the only time I might consider cleaning the disc up further if it's high dollar.

It definitely looks like a 360 game case and I'll have to check out the pinball game myself they definitely do have some cheap titles but there consoles for 400 bucks are a no go for myself.
Rich from ReviewTechUSA is a prime example of why you shouldn't buy from them.
Every console he has bought has been a miss.
The most recent one was an Xbox with dead capacitors and wouldn't read any discs.
His PS2 was damaged and full of dust.
His SNES was also screwed up and missing screws, had improper sized screws, the console was dirty, and even the cartridge was dirty.
They need to open a dictionary and learn what the term "refurbish" means.
I personally work on consoles myself.
I would *never* send a console out to a customer in the condition DKOldies does, especially when charging that much over price for it.
Some of their consoles are literally at launch-price MSRPs for when those consoles launched, which is laughable.
The Xbox situation was horrendous.
Any competent repair technician within the scene knows that capacitors that Microsoft used when they built the OG Xbox are only rated for about a 20-year lifespan, and that the clock capacitor for it is specifically prone to exploding, which seeps acid and chemicals out which erode the PCB and kills traces, effectively turning the nice new purchase into a friggin' paperweight.
On ANY REPAIR FOR THEM nowadays, you open that sucker up, desolder the existing clock capacitor, get a CR2032 CMOS battery, solder a leg on either side of it to create a positive and negative lead, pass the leads through, clip them to length needed, and then resolder it to the board. They even have housings for them nowadays to where you can easily just slot a brand-new CMOS battery in at any given time.
All the capacitors need to be replaced in a refurbishment, but the console will not work properly without a clock capacitor.
Their "refurbishing process video" was complete B.S. too.
They indirectly stated that they do not open consoles unless a part needs to be replaced to function (apparently not in Rich's case), the qtip used to 'clean' the Wii was bone-dry even though there was isopropyl alcohol sitting on the desk and thus came out frayed because it was dry (would also turn brown from cleaning dust if they actually were doing it right), they didn't deep-clean anything, and then when they sent it to the cleanup station (again, why show cleaning at two different zones if you have someone solely meant for cleaning who is getting a reassembled console that they cannot clean??) the other person used a *Magic Eraser* on the console.
Despite how soft it seems, a Magic Eraser will strip paint off a wall.
On a propane-torched piece of metal, it will RIP OFF OXIDATION.
Do NOT use it on a piece of plastic.
They are incredibly, incredibly abrasive polymer blocks.
That's why the top of Rich's PS2 was scratched to hell and why it had a layer on one side of residue of some sort/degradation of the material.
That's exactly what caused that.
Competent repair technicians can spot these things from a mile away, and clearly, DKOldies hired a bunch of amateurs who do not get paid enough to do it even though they charge an arm and a leg for their products.

Didn’t even buy a console and you were still scammed. You bought a complete Xbox game and received it in a replacement box.
I've bought 5 or 6 games from dk oldies, only 1 of those games didn't work and they replaced it for free. I don't have a very bad experience with them but I will agree that some of their prices are absurd
When you have to create an FAQ that people see before they go into the comments section to read or post, that’s a sign that maybe you didn’t put forth your best quality. That’s just my two cents though. I know you didn’t ask for it, but hey, it’s for free.
I order a PS Vita from DKOldies and the system didn’t turn on. Also, I ordered a NES from them too and the console worked for 3 days. I hope Joey starts to become an honest man instead of a PR demon.

I bought an Xbox from them and when I opened the disc tray moths flew out of it. Then another time my NES wouldn't work so I opened it up and it was stuffed full of fifty dollar bills!
I bought a wavebird from dkoldies and it was literally covered in hand grime. The amount of crap that was removed via q-tips and isopropyl was horrendous. NOTHING was cleaned, period.

After my brother ordered 2 "Tested" original XBOX consoles on eBay that neither one worked, he ended up paying out the ass for one from DK Oldies. This was maybe a year and a half ago, possibly 2 years ago, but he was happy with it. It still runs fine to this day. Personally, I'd say their prices are a bit nuts, but he did get a good system. It's really sad seeing a lot of people not getting good consoles, because my brother did end up with a good one. And original XBOXes imo are pretty notorious for different issues, especially the disc tray not working. I've had a few of em and can say that they had plenty of issues, and you'd fix it and 3 months later itd be back to having issues. So his has been working for awhile, and was clean when he got it (i opened it for him at the time because he was nervous to open consoles). I can't say much personally, their prices have kept me from buying from them.
But this video avoids the problem that everyone's having by not ordering a console so you're avoiding the issue unintentionally
Not ordering a console is the solution to that issue.

I think them shipping Buyers a Brand New THIRD Party Controller than "refurbishing" a old OEM Controller is insulting, IMO.

It’s not about hopping on a bandwagon. If multiple people ordered multiple items especially console that were labeled as “refurbished” and got filthy cosmetically flawed stuff then that’s an issue. Regardless of the size of your yt channel big or small numerous people purchased items from dk oldies and got not cleaned or outfight defective products.

Paying a premium for something isn’t an issue unless they are actually truly taking the time and effort to restore these consoles. Not everything on their website is overpriced but majority of the consoles are. If I’m paying nearly $200 dollars for a Wii console it better be almost brand spanking new. It’s evident and even the spokesperson said that they do not take the consoles apart unless there’s something remotely wrong with them, so why would I pay a premium for something that’s not going to even be restored when I can simply head on over to Mercari, Ebay, or FB market place and get a Wii with cords and all with some games for a fraction of the price?

It doesn’t take much researching to tell they are over pricing consoles. @@atvbass10 I purchased a Wii from them, I didn’t need to purchase Wii as I have two I bought 13 years ago. But as average consumer I bought one for the hell of it. It came broken and wouldn’t read disc. I sent it back & got money but to me that’s a horrible experience the fact that the two Wii’s I’ve own over a decade still work. Not to mention the ones I’ve got have scratches and stains & my White Wii has a yellowish tint. The Wii they sent me that’s supposed to be “refurbished” came broken. Unacceptable. Will not be buying from them again. So I’m advising anyone else shouldn’t either. You have every right too, but I wouldn’t.

For motorcycle fans, its an amazing game.
The old school ones controllers you can get cheaper in a bundle on Amazon. 2 for 20. They also mess up easily if the cord is pulled. I got 4 old school controllers before off Amazon for 40.

That's not the point of this video. I'm not going to order something I don't want just to prove a point. It's already been established that ordering a console from them is a bad idea, so a fair comparison would be to order something else besides a console. Even then, I'm sure many people have ordered consoles from them and have had a good experience. They're just not making videos about it.

As much crap as people talk about gamestop and ordering consoles from them my success rate with consoles is phenomenal. But I do agree with your statement on ebay and getting it in the condition you want.
Ive worked at gamestop can confirm at the very least they make certain a console or game works before accepting it to sell as used
@@docc19 yeah not knocking GameStop. Ordered Xbox One S a week or two before Christmas and got it a week earlier than expected too and actually ended up with a better model than what I ordered

I have recently been working on a game room and had a large tube TV brought in for these older consoles. I was planning on getting an N64 from DKOldies, even if paying a bit more, because I was paying for the service of refurbishment as well. Been planning on it for a couple years now when I first ran across their site. I could do it on my own. I can recap a system, I can replace the cart slot if that is worn out, etc. But I was going to pay them to do it. Now I am seeing people unboxing their orders and there is no refurbishing happening, or at least a piss poor bit of work.
Definitely don't buy it off them. Your paying a premium for a service that they claim they do but don't. Buy it private off eBay or a local seller, as your gonna get it in exact same condition as you would from dkoldies and you'll pay less. Did you see the water damaged n64 someone received from dk

More than keeping prices fair - they need to honor what they state they’ll do to the consoles they ship out. That’s where the backlash is coming from.

Everybody warned me not to buy a Xbox 360 off eBay because of how bad they are and I went and ordered one anyways there's only a hundred forty bucks with 7 free games and it was a brand new Xbox and brand new games

Nobody is bashing them over the games or accessories, its the "Refurbished" consoles they are selling and not even so much as opening them up to clean unless said console already had an issue with it in the first place. Kind of missed the point entirely here.
Gonna go out on a limb and guess you didn't want to take out a loan for a retro console and just ordered the cheapest thing? But the type of stuff you ordered isn't the issue....you're obviously trying to capitalize on the algorithm for views and it obviously worked, but the issue with DKoldies is their consoles, claiming to be refurbished and working etc and many recieved one that is anything but that and people are paying a premium for non working consoles, nobody is complaining about the stuff you ordered for views......
People who are getting non-working consoles need to be filing complaints against them instead of making videos about it. We're all equally guilty about capitalizing on the algorithm.

Nobody with any authority regulates them in a way that a complaint would do any good if you know something I don't feel free to share, but public exposure on UA-cam or other large social media platforms can be more damaging than any filed complaint to whatever imaginary organization you feel has the ability to regulate or correct DKoldies for lying to their customers
@spoolyboi94 The next best thing to do is to not order any consoles from them, or anything at all if you choose. All of this extra publicity and additional console sales isn't hurting them.
@@BrettDarien may not be hurting them but I was considering ordering from them because I liked the shorts and videos they made, but after seeing the pricing that alone made me not want to buy anything, and then after being exposed for false advertising definitely not interested and the videos exposing their business practices could save some unknown potential customer from wasting money that isn't as educated as you or me in what to look for and what is and isn't a good deal, you sound like you're defending them which I hope you aren't........

I kinda had the same problem as well, A while back, I bought a slim PS2 console off of Amazon, and when we hooked it up and I played it, the console would read the all the types of discs (Like PS1 Games, PS2 CD Games, PS2 DVD Games and CDs etc., but it would not load some PS2 Games either, there were also times where some of the games would start lagging while they were loading up which was really frustrating, plus whenever the laser moves inside the PS2 it makes some weird noise, so we then had to take it back so that we could possibly get a refund
Of corse the brand matters on third party controllers. U can by a shitty controller that sucks from dkoldie or a 8bit do for almost the same price that is as good as original controllers

@@BrettDarien I think the problem is how you presented it. "Everyone is making DKOldies videos" which we all know are all specifically about bad experiences when purchasing consoles, so it makes it seem like your video is related to those, when it's not.

I have a bad sour taste in my mouth for DKOldies so it just makes me cranky I suppose haha. They are a horrible company who are massively screwing everyone, not only just by way of ridiculous prices, but flat out lies and selling constantly broken products that aren't what they claim.

@James Pyle I just don't understand why people insist that I ordered a console. I say in the video that I would never buy a console from them, so me ordering a console from them would be going against my own advice. There are already many videos of people receiving consoles. I can't speak for their experience but my experience of ordering a couple of games was acceptable but still not perfect. That was my intended takeaway of the video.

So you bought a $15 controller and a game that’s $5? Obviously the game and controller work they have a disk cleaner and just buy their controllers wholesale from a 3rd party. Nobody is made about there games or controllers(well unless it was advertised as 1st party) they are bad about the consoles and nes games they are selling, overpriced and not cleaned or refurbished when they are advertised as such and the nes games are priced like they would and show a box included in photos but don’t come with them.

Just so you know...oldskool brand is the WORST you could buy. Its the cheapest junk made. ANY 3rd party accessory is garbage. Buy oem. EVERY used oem item ive bought has worked flawless.

Any consoles that functions right just for others not aware I have the 360 s and if I’m correct that console will shut off if it gets too hot I seen mine did that to cool down play intense games

You must of missed the part where I talk about buying consoles (specifically a PS2) from Ebay. I never recommend buying consoles from any online webstore.
@@BrettDarien why recommend buying games if they dont even clean the consoles. What chance trusting a scam company that doesn’t clean their products before shipping or maybe not always test them. I wouldn’t even recommend buying their games if they don’t do the the things they say they do. The logic you have makes no sense boomer
@VazZdom It's a safer bet than buying their consoles, but most of their games are very overpriced and it looks like they don't attempt to clean them. You also might get a replacement case instead of the original case, so I don't really recommend buying their games either. I only bought two games that were priced fairly.

The issue is refurbished game consoles. You bought some CD’s and a 3rd party controller.
You completely ignored the issue, ordered something unrelated to the problems everyone is having. Then you stated “everything is ok” 😂.

I don't want to buy a console from DKOldies. I don't want to have the same experience other people are having. I also don't want to give DKOldies any more money. Isn't that the message we're trying to send with all these videos?

I understand. I’m not the only one pointing this out. When large chunks of the audience point out something, they may have a point. You make a video riding the wave of the algorithm, painting a irrelevant picture of something your doing more damage than good. People obviously have received items from DK oldies that are stated to be refurbished and have not been. Your video points to conclusion that may make an individual think a problem doesn’t exist. In reality the video is irrelevant to the problem and aside from you milking the algorithm it’s harmful to other consumers buying products from dk oldies that they assume will be fine, but are not.

Same issue for me with CIB games from DK Oldies. Generic or off brand game cases sold as CIB. False advertising in my opinion
