Yeah, he really needs to stop. We know how they do things, so this is pointless. He needs to move on and check out other retro stores, but not Lukie Games or Gamestop because they've been done multiple times now too. There are like at least 5 more of them but nobody wants to check any of those out for some reason.

He reviews tech and dk oldies sells tech. They are a big topic right now and rich has already said that aslong as dk oldies is trying to do damage control he will continue to expose them. He’s sticking to his word and one console purchase isn’t going to keep a company afloat and the damage to their image will lose them revenue
They probably got it in a somewhat clean state. The fact that they still haven't refurbished it makes it just as inexcusable as before.
The issue was always they used "refurbished" where they would have been fine just calling it pre-owned. So yes, this changes nothing.

We know DKOldies sucks. We know they grossly overcharge. Yet we (not ME exactly... but a lot of youtubers and wanna be tubers) keep buying this crap to KEEP making these videos.
At first it was about getting the knowledge out there so that folks know these guys are full of it. At a point though, it's exactly what your talking about.

Using DKOldies for views, incorporating their huge social following into yours. 90% of large stores that claim to sell refurbished consoles, are actually selling consoles that aren't properly refurbished. GameStop, DKOldies, eBay you name it. It's nothing new. Simply don't buy retro stuff from these big stores. These UA-cam guys just keep making these vidoes for ratings. They're not helping or exposing anything.

eBay isn't necessarily a store but a vendor for other people's stores and no not everyone is aware of these shops.
I for one would like to know if a particular shop is a scam or not.
You might not care or purchase "retro" or older consoles but other people don't want to waste money in broken equipment or scratched games.
If DK Oldies and places like them do not refurbish the consoles, then I love to hear actual suggestions on exactly what reputable dealers to go through.

There's no one place really. I bought an N64 from Mercari back in December, it came with 5 wrestling games, 2 OEM controllers (1 was in great condition the other is fine but the stick is kinda loose) and the power supply and AV cable for $155. It arrived in "too good to be true" condition as it looked like it was barely ever used...so I opened it up, and it was completely dust free...I wasn't expecting it to be THAT nice. The games that came with it definitely had 20+ years of wear on them, but the pins were spotless.
Bought a black Wii off of eBay the other day for $45, came with 3 Wiimotes, 5 games, a Nunchuck, a charging dock, the stand, the cables and even the instruction manuals...the disc drive needs some work (it keeps making the eject sound for a bit after you take a disc out), but otherwise it was in great shape, even still had the flaps that cover the Gamecube ports.
Point is...random people on the internet are doing better work than these online retailers are for FARRRR cheaper prices. Just gotta look around a little.
I bought a perfectly decent clear green N64 from my local charity shop, with 12 games, for £2. Admittedly, they had no idea what it was so they just basically got rid of it, but £2 isn't bad. I sold it a year later for £5 because I never used it. Probably should have asked for more money.

I haven't seen it brought up yet, but the amount you paid vs the first one you showed is that you had the "Substitute 2 Original Controllers" and the "Add an AV to HDMI Pak" that's why it's more expensive. so before the sale it was $189 + $60 + $25 = ~$280. Not Defending DK Oldies because that's still an outrageous price just thought I might correct you on that.

Vintage stock is one place I hate with a passion. They are over priced on their consoles a lot and everything I have ever got from them was dirty. Their local stores have horrible employees and I don’t believe they ever clean anything. They also make fake cover art for their older games and charge full price stating it’s original art. And the ones that they don’t make art for are 20% off the game. I believe you should take a look at them!
That japanese power-supply is a fire-hazard. since in Japan they use 100Volt
and in the USA they use 120Volt

Since they never go inside the machines, having a good to bad system is a roll of the dice based on how well kept the system was from the previous owner that traded it into DKOldies.

I have not been selling retro games for over 10 years, but when I sold a twin fami as refurbished, I dishwasher the main board, hand rebend the connector, give it a new sewing machine belt AND recapped the power supply and the main board. I sold red ones for $199 and black ones for 229. Oh, I would also put nes female controller ports for another $20. Or I would change the pads for $10. Getting an "A" disk board was another $30 but let you load games from your PC. I used to buy large lots of fami disk drives to salvage A boards.
I still think the discussion on DKOldies should continue. If they're improving that means keep the pressure on them or else they'll grow complacent again and get lazy. I do think Lukie Games should be looked at next, not as bad as DKOldies but a little questionable and I think letting these places know that the people want what they pay for and what's promised to them get met. These retro games and hardware are likely on their last legs so I think they should be treated fairly and taken care of to prolong their lives as long as possible. Game preservation is important, and I wish the industry felt the same way.
Apparently Lukie Games used to be great from almost everyone’s experience including mine. They literally became bad as soon as they knew they could scam people just like DK Oldies.

From what I heard is the only time they refurbish a console is when something is actually messed up and that’s the only time they’ll clean it also

To DK Oldies standards that is basically "NEW Unopened in the BOX N64". I say for the next retro system buy. Get one from a REPUTABLE known brand that people say does an amazing job. So you can show the people what "REAL" refurbishment of an old retro system should look like.

My guy, I'd like to personally thank you for taking one for the team on all these systems. I almost ended up buying a GameCube from these faux scammers, along with about a dozen games and extra controllers.
Retro game market is rough. I went to a local highly rated game shop and bought an overpriced old 3DS console there. Just to get home and find out the touch screen calibration is broken and can’t be resolved by the software. So…. It could be a lot worse honestly.
So glad for these videos. Wound up getting great old consoles from ebay, Facebook marketplace, and word of mouth. Too boot at a quarter of the price! Shocked DK Oldies still in business.

They don’t clean the inside because they know most people would never open them to check.
For those of you who haven’t figured it out yet, it’s more cost effective for them to replace superficially cleaned, “working” consoles under warranty and discourage customers from opening them, than it is to spend the time actually refurbishing them.

Out of all the videos I've seen - I think you got the cleanest console! Way to somewhat hold them accountable and its been fun to watch! I would still never pay that LOL but atleast "some" attempt was made to "refurbish".. Still criminal imo. Companies need a guideline for what they can deem "refurbished".. not dirty with aftermarket replaced parts.. They are definitely trying to make a better effort after being exposed. Still unacceptable to call that clean or "refurbished" and definitely not worth a premium price (nice controller 1 slot). Thanks for the laughs!

You should see if you could get a Nintendo wii u from their site. I don’t expect much from that Nintendo system, but you never know, it could gather up a lot of dust. But it’s not nearly as bad as the PlayStation 3 or the PlayStation four. Because it has fewer vents that are more closed off so dust is least likely to get in there.

The problem is obviously how they classify "refurbished", to them it just means clean the outside of dirt...and if it turns on...ship it. I doubt they ever open anything unless it doesn't turn on.
Don't be silly. Only things INSIDE Canada take forever. It might take 20 days to move two provinces but you can easily get stuff from the US in like a week and even Japan in 14 - 17 days.
(Boy I wish I were joking. For example, my last order from Ontario - indeed two provinces away - took an "amazing" 15 days after they delayed it 4 times despite being sent with ~80 dollar maximum speed tracking that's supposed to be 3 days. The OCG YGO cards I ordered to be shipped via 1 dollar letter mail - because it's the only shipping option he offers unless you buy a lot at once - from my go to guy in Japan got here the day before despite only being shipped one day earlier as well.)
Compare three of the same consoles from DK Oldies, Lukie Games and Game Stop rate them from worst to best to see which one is the best to get from out of the three.
Was talking to my friend the other day and he said he bought a backwards compat ps3 from DKOldies before all the problems came to light. 1. They didnt give him a controller that worked and 2. it cut off after 2 minutes. He took it apart and it was not clean.
He couldn't return it because it was past the 2 week return policy.

I bought 2 SNES games from them. Killer Instinct & Super Mario World. Killer Instinct didn't worked at all & Super Mario took 4 tries before it worked.
It's not my SNES because I cleaned it myself & all games worked on it 1st try. So I cleaned both games & now they work on first try. But for what I paid for them I could get cheaper in Canada & quicker. Specially if I have to clean them myself.

Given the track record so far, I'm more inclined to say that DKOldies didn't actually clean that console. They got lucky with the controllers and they were cleaned by the prior owner. Because that level of clean is far beyond the capability and quality of DKOldies. And the console was another luck out, it was either not used heavily by the prior owner, or it was cleaned before they got rid of it and what remains is from it sitting waiting to be sold. So nope, I don't believe they changed, I believe that in this one instance, they lucked into a good one.
