The Man-portable air defence system, (MANPAD), is fired by the soldier and shoots towards the missile in the distance. Soldiers can be heard cheering as it makes contact with its target in the sky.
The shot has been described as 'hard to pull off' in online discussion.

I was involved in testing Stinger from 1985 to 1990. The limiting factor here usually would be the soldier. His calmness, quickness, and the expertise he showed was extraordinary!
Was the Stinger designed with cruise missiles in mind or is the terrain hugging altitude a defensive measure that’s hard to beat for such a small portable missile with limited range and speed?
In the video that's a igla manpad afaik
@@thokar81 I was wondering which MANPAD it was. It would be deliciously satisfying if it was an IGLA don't you think.
@@ericklein5097 Yes, a cruise missile would usually be an impossible target. However, if the soldier gets a solid lock and the geometry is favorable, yes, a Stinger could intercept.
Stinger can track in the infrared and UV spectrums, so the missile just needs a big enough sensor image for the entire flight and a favorable velocity vector geometry.

The more Russian missiles are shot down, the fewer Ukrainians Russia will have time to save. Zelensky's regime repeats the Holocaust.
@enrique11 the difference is that the Russians are largely relying on unguided dumb missiles now, while the Ukrainians are increasingly using more advanced Western-supplied weapons. There are plenty of materials about this. You can search it up.
@enrique11 The current batch of strikes are aimed at fairly densely populated areas so even if it was one of the older missiles with a margin for error of 1-200m it would still likely cause fatalities.
