NATO Code Name: Fulcrum is a twin engine fighter aircraft that was developed in the Soviet Union.
The C-RAM/Phalanx CIWS (Counter-Rocket Artillery Mortar) system and CIWS (Close In Weapon System) use a 20mm gatling cannon to destroy incoming targets.

I guess the key is to fly real low, so the C-Ram shoots everyone's house up, and you don't have to waste your own ammo.
The ammunition rounds are self detonating after around 2000 meters so that it helps prevent collateral damage.
Maybe first time for the Ukrainian to use this kind of weapon but that’s a good practice soon they will get it done ✅

There was some guy who made some smart ass comment to me saying that I was a hater or something… Because he thought it was real and I’m very familiar with the ARMA software. I don’t have it, nor do I know how to use it… I deal more with the hacking software and things of that nature. I’ve even contributed to two iOS jailbreaks and I deal with a lot of hacking software for android.
But I’m familiar with that software and that guy did not even read the description and was saying all this stuff to me like he knew what he was talking about… And then after my comment, I think he pulled his comment because that Idiot didn’t even read the Description before he made his smart Alec comment to me. I know he felt stupid… Some people are just idiots. They comment on this and don’t even read the description. The description clearly says it’s made with that software!

For anyone wondering who doesn’t do their research, the round that don’t hit actually explode. The C-RAM rounds are to set to explode at a Certain distance After shooting at the target they are set to explode at the distance that the target is at so if their target is at 800 m the rounds will be set to explode at 800 m this way this prevents from any Miss rounds Hitting civilians or anyone else that is not the targets. C-RAM Shoots explosive rounds out of the cannon
Um, it prevents intact rounds from hitting civilians. The post detonation shrapnel still have to land somewhere....

If this was real, the fighter pilot would probably prioritize elimination of that C-RAM before going for the other targets that obviously don't shoot back

I just couldn’t see any kind of jet sticking around to go toe to toe with a C-RAM and first sign of a weapon of that nature would be to first run away and regroup. Then fly back at top speed and destroy it. Even then, you think it would send multiple missiles of its own from a nice distance.

If it had been real I can only imagine what it would have been like in the cockpit of the migs with all those 20 mm rounds tearing through the sky around you.
The barrels on that C-RAM would have melted. And I think this one fired well over the 20 seconds of ammo capacity.

If this was real, the pilot would have some insane skills
If this was real, the pilot would have bugged out after the second solid hit, not hang around until the C-RAM eventually managed to take him out.

I would have to say that this was a very poor sim. My father was on the Nimitz and said there was no way in hell that the c-ram/phalanx would unload ammo like that. The computer on those guns calculates physics faster than the pilots skill/reaction. The mig would have been Swiss cheese with a side of pilot soup in less than 10 seconds. The gun knows when to engage/disengage at distance and would have calculated the only possible flight path the mig could take while keeping the pilot in control. Still pretty cool to watch. Those c-ram/phalanx cannons can defend against missiles, which are a lot faster than a mig.

Seems like conventional anti-aircraft machine guns don't hit enemy aircraft very well. I wonder if anti-aircraft missiles are more reliable in shooting them down.

@@jeffjohnson5053 we have been, don't worry they will be getting more. Ukraine has proved itself to the world that not only are the willing to fight but they are capable of fighting too. At first we didn't give them many rocket launchers but after they proved themselves a capable force damn near every single western country sent them rockets. Even Germany. Germany sent them rockets that we don't even know about, Germany kept the name/type of rocket launchers secret when they announced they were sending them to Ukraine.

So in the case that a pilot ejects from his aircraft & begins parachuting down to the ground. Is is common for the enemy to then try to shoot him down & kill him before he escapes. How does that go because just a few seconds earlier he was a hostile combatant killing dozens of their comrades. Could the C-Ram just snipe him out the sky?

It reminds me of a CIWS (Close-in weapon system) on the ship... There isn't much counter measures you can achieve. Those rounds aren't heat seekers you can use counter measures on. Your done. Helo's get it worse (Slow)... That MIG speed helped but realistically... That pilot would have caught a Sum of all fears. Great post...

You would think the C-Ram would have limits set, or at least an AA mode, to avoid striking ground targets, especially your own.
The hit to rounds fired ratio is abysmal, especially in the case of that MiG. I saw numerous hits throughout the course of the video, but only a minute fraction of the rounds expended struck the target. That MiG pilot was a rock star though!
Speaking of rounds expended... what's the magazine capacity of one of those things? (Real life, not Hollywood!)

How long do the barrels last?
Any conventional aerospace is vulnerable to be shot down, thats why future aerial combat will likely be by sophisticated drones guided by ground command stations, or satellite direction, or preloaded high accuracy terrain following positional awareness mapping.

They are doing this on purpose to show the C-RAM tracers. ARMA 3 combat is the most realistic out of any game.

I didnt read the title fully and was just sitting there wondering if they had increased the helix magazine to hold more ammo or something. I worked on these years back. It is also a CIWS not C -RAM. The ram is missiles. This was a very cool video regardless
If we have spent good money on this, I'm not impressed. I would hope that such a weapon would only be used at very close range, against low flying targets or boats. I hope the C-RAM is more effective in the real world, otherwise I wouldn't want to depend on this system. How much would all that CWIS ammo cost, anyway?
@@michaellong9066 I am unaware of the actual cost of ammo but I know how much it can consume before reload. They aren't cheap and the target wouldn't even be shot at unless manually fired upon or target is inbound directly toward the mount. C-ram would actually be more effective against a jet since it is fire and forget homing missiles.

@@michaellong9066 yeah, after a year or so of cleaning it and seeing it in action here and there it has its moments of flare. But then you have to clean it and that alone can take a day or two. If you want to be slightly more impressed I would check out the goal keeper. It's the CIWS with 2-8 barrels and much more ammo to have fun with

Is a former machine gunner in the United States Marine corps. I must say I'm familiar with the Vulcan system, the gunnery I saw did not seem to be computer aimed. Whoever had their finger on the trigger sucked balls. Have had to be at least 30 mm Cannon, or even a 20 mm should have shot it out of the sky in the first burst. This guy is either practicing or 10 years old, or is on the side of the Russians

I think it’s all cgi.. the first few bursts should’ve forced any plane to the ground and it looks fake
Get a few game modders to modify the targeting on this so it Doesn’t just track directly in front of the target so it waste less ammo. Have it do a sort of zigzag or wave pattern randomly when targeting piloted aircraft. Or at the very least when and aircraft is banking have it tighten its tracking curve slightly to the left, right, up, or down direction depending on the arch of the aircraft. It might miss less too.
Or some neural net programets to create a neural net then let it learn to aim and predict where to aim in a simulation.
I love how the C-Ram took out the target for the mig.
LOL @ that salvo duration. In a real-world scenario, both overheating and lack of ammo would have absolutely prevented that CIWS from firing that long.
I've seen Cwis and Russian variation. That pharynx system wouldn't be in Ukraine.

Ukraine did had missile DEFENSE DEPLOYMENT (Patriot or IRON DOMB) that hit the missile but the warhead fell and destroyed the fascade of a Civilian apartment building.

@@gunnarplettenberg2335 I mean if you are in range of projectiles it's probably safe to assume a missile may be launched at you. It is common for planes to drop flares after a pass regardless of if they are being actively targeted or not.

I believe that cram needs some adjustments made to the tracking system.
This looks very much like a sim rather than true footage. The explosions do not look like what a real ground attack rocket explosion, for example and the smoke does not seem to linger like they do in real life. Also the people must be moving at hyperspace to get out of the helicopters so quickly. I could be wrong but it just isn't "real" looking.

No ammo was wasted, it was a simulation.
In actual use the system doesn't fire continuously like that, only when it has a lock.
Also, keep in mind, that for every tracer you see, there are five other projectiles following it.
They aren't going to let you see just how accurate these systems truly are!
You install 4 of these then, much cheaper than planes. In reality, these point-defense system has little chance of hitting an actual fighter jet, mostly because jets don't usually come down into gun range for them. It could intercept a missile or two though.
Did the inaccurate bullet dumpster actually destroy its own ground unit? That's sure what it looked like. That system sucks for maneuverable planes. Straight trajectory sure

That C ram spent about $50 million in ammunition trying to shoot down a $4 million Mig. Plus the C-Ram accidentally shot at that one building & blew it up. At that point is it even economically feasible?

Two questions: 1) Can you actually parachute out of a helicopter that gets hit that doesn't explode in the air assuming you didn't get hit yourself, and 2) Where do all those rounds go that don't hit the target? It seems like somewhere on the ground a whole lot of people could wind up shredded those rounds.
Only Kamov helicopter gunship pilots can ejcect and land on a parachute. It's one of a kind. Also twin rotor system is way better than tail rotor.
I'm thinking as a civilian you're in a basement. I found a bullet in my roof in So. Cal. I bet in was a 4th of July leftover. That was a ton of bullets flying in Ukraine.
the C-rams systems that are used in cities (see C-ram defend us iraq embassy) fires rounds with fused tracers that explode when the rounds travel past the range of the expected target. they sound like popcorn or firecrackers destroying the round so they will not harm anyone or anything.
