- DRAMATIC moment Ukraine troops blow up Russian tanks one-by-one in Donbas region.
The Battle Group K2 of the 54th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, part of Operational Command East, said they came across the ‘uninvited tourists’ wandering the deserted streets of Marinka, a town in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk Oblast.
The military group said on 2nd June: “Another success: ‘tourists’ in the Donbas region are missing their armoured vehicles.

Can’t even imagine what it would be like having to drive those tanks around just waiting to get destroyed. The men in that tank were burned alive with no escape route. It’s hard to wrap your mind around.

I am not an expert but I would guess the initial hit takes them out so they are dead or ”sleeping” when it bursts in to flames.

Imagine being in your early 20s and being inside that tank. Dying for what? Being in a foreign country fighting people who don't what to fight you. It's better going to jail as a deserter or even getting shot for deserting than being burned alive inside the tank with no way out.

I was an M1A1 Abrams tanker with the US ARMY for 8 years. This was our greatest fear. Being trapped inside a burning steel coffin. Watching this is so surreal, I feel horrible for whoever was inside.

These towns in the Donbas were being shelled by Ukrainian forces back since 2016, so they haven't had peace in a while.

No tank driver in any country is ever safe in modern warfare. Tanks are obsolete against any country with basic artillery, shoulder fire or laser guided munitions and completely useless against countries with air support. The only thing tanks are good for is holding territory that is already controlled with superior firepower air support on the tanks side.

That was some pretty good artillery gunnery, that tanker who was blown to kingdom come should have hit the gas hard, or abandoned the tank right then, three shells blew up right in front of him, they had him zeroed in. All love and support for Ukraine from Canada !
1:07 If you look at the back of the tank, it gets thrown up by the force of the first explosion, so I'm thinking an AT mine, or some IED. Idk about artillery, but I'm only saying this because there was no armour penetration from above. Then there was the next explosion and idk what that is from. But the first explosion, from the force of the blast, definitely kicked the tank up from the back. I'm guessing a mine.
It wasn’t artillery. What look like an IED went off in front of him. That may have been a miss from some weapon. It looked like he engaged something to his front, got hit, backed up. The other two headed off to the left. Whatever hit him finished him off.
The other two just booked on out of there. No infantry in support… Anywhere.

The amount of vids I've seen of a lone Russian tank with no support driving in an urban environment is staggering...a tank is an amazing tool if used correctly but it rarely seems to be the case

There is something especially sad and visceral about watching footage from real combat like this. To think of all these destroyed houses that were once a living city. To think of all the brave Ukrainian men and women risking it all every day to protect their homeland. The guys in the tank were used as cannon fodder. Especially taking into consideration that the last one shown looked like an old T-62, an obsolete model with little protection. Every time you see a Russian tank destroyed, an artillery piece, fighting vehicle, rocket launcher or crate of Javelins flows across the Polish border into Ukraine hands. Meanwhile they've raised the military age above 40 in Russia as a whole lot of conscripts end their term. Stay strong UKR.

Russia’s army is not the state of the art fighting force the west believed it was. The tide will change with western arm supplies. In August the Ukrainian army has been supplied enough to take back huge parts of their territory

The once mighty and feared Battle Tank now looks helpless and almost pathetic on a modern battlefield as technology made the tank very close to being redundant.
Tanks are still effective, but you need air dominance. The days of mass formations of tanks though is over. They need to be used more as infantry support. Designs will change to smaller guns. Maybe 75mm or less

I think the original impact either killed them outright or knocked them unconscious. Otherwise they would have bailed out or at least opened the hatches.
They would not have suffered much.
The crew left the tank. The video shows that at first the tank was blown up by a mine. Then, when a shell flew into the tank, its hatches were opened and the turret was turned so that the driver could get out.

The 54th Mechanized Brigade is headquartered in Bakhmut. They have a wiki page. They had a few artillery battalions using soviet equipment, and they have been reinforced with a fresh battalion of M198 towed 155mm artillery. Honestly, I could sit and watch video of russian armor being destroyed and cooking off all day long... Beautiful work. Many Kudos to the 54th Mech!

Are those 155mm hits? Size matters, a bit over 6 inches does the job. The only more destructive hit I've seen to a tank was on an Iraqi MBT in Kuwait hit by a pave penny 2000 pound laser guided bomb. The 50 tons of steel was instantly recycled, and atmospheric.

I can just imagine the panic amongst a Russian tank crew: seeing all the other tanks being picked off one by one, wondering when their turn was coming and frantically trying to make a run for it - at 20mph!

I feel bad for the tankers getting sent on suicide missions. Driving down a street in a tank column in a blown out neighborhood, single file, with no infantry support is just asking for trouble.
I doubt infantry support could do anything at these points. Unless you mean sending the infantry ahead to search for mines but I think infantry being their would just increase the loss of manpower.

No, what's necessary is air support and cover. Russians are really bad at air support and their tech is mostly inherited from the Soviet era.
