- I love my native land.
No music in this video as many viewers said they like to hear the sound if the bikes engine:)
I rode my Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle in search of Quaint Olde England. It's still here is you look for it but I wish I could turn the clock back. It seems like life was simpler and more innocent perhaps but ofcourse in many ways life was hard too in many ways. Old cottages heated with range and hearth and lit by candle light.
In this video I ride ou to East Garston to see the old family home once again. "Ivy Cottage"
My Great Grand parents ;oved and died here so I am very fond of the old place even though it no longer belongs to our family.
An old story I heard was how my Great Grandmother was scared of the new Electric they had installed in the first half of the 20th Century, I believe it was 50 Volts DC. She would quickly jab at the light switch for fear of getting a shock, she would have been an old lady when electric was first common place, so candle and oil lamp would have been quite normal for her.
The Himalayan is a great way to get around and see the villages and locality first hand. It's not a fast bike, just a "Chugger" hence the reason why I call mine "Chug"
Great little villages, I have put them onto my places I must go for a ride. Well done 'Chug' no problem starting.
What a beautiful country England is. What better way to enjoy it than by motorcycle.
My son has a Royal Enfield too, the Classic with a great special colour. That barn is a work of art, done without architects. Those where the times. Now it’s all regulations.Great land, England. Love to go there on me motorbike as well.
Beautiful historic places to see all over this country. It's just a matter of slowing down, taking the time to get out and appreciating it. So easy to take these gems for granted - who needs to go abroad ? Thanks for the ride, take care Dan
Marvellous! What a richly diverse country we live in. Half expected to see a Hobbit leaning against the barn, admiring Chug!
As a Californian, thanks for this. Beautiful villages like this will only be experienced for me via UA-cam.
Thank you Sandy for a lovely tour along the countryside and sharing your family history. Beautiful !! ... Chug is looking good!! 😊
Astounding beauty Sandy. Not much more to add. In these times of self isolation, it's a treat to see these ride alongs. Thanks mate.
And the world turns. Thanks Sandy it warmed the cockles of my heart :-)
What a beautiful thatched cottage ivy wood is sandy & very courteous of you to not only stop but to switch of chug for the horses , my wife has had 2 horses and I know from experience they spook easy 👌stay safe in the jack household 👍
Now that's what I call motorcycle touring, right up my street. I did a tour of the fens in a similar vein last year Sandy, most therapeutic.Hearing Chug Chugging added to the atmosphere :-)
Great to see you blowing the cobwebs off Chug. Lovely bit of countryside and houses to match - certainly a welcome distraction from the current pandemic hysteria. Stay safe. ATB from sunny and locked down Malaysia 😎😷
Loved that bimble out on chug, cool memory's thanks for sharing .
Great watching you drive around Wiltshire brings back a lot of memories for me.👍
Just love the sound of your bike the way I remember my bikes . Lovely ride and reminiscing 🏍thanks for taking me along . Wish I could still do it (to old now ) !!!👍
Sandy, thanks for showing me the part of UK I miss, since we moved to USA, I used to love taking a drive on a Sunday around Wilts, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire Somerset with the family. Always fancied living in a thatched cottage, (with mice in the roof ). Last time I was back at the White Horse it was blowing like hell and freezing cold. Swindon, Wilts area is still one of my favourite parts of uk, especially having been born in east London,Talking of Somerset, you should see how Chug goes up Porlock Hill, Cheddar Gorge,Yes I do miss living in Swindon but I am now retired and I made a very good living here and have been to all but one state in the 42 years living here. Not got to Washington state yet. But its got some wonderful sites here. Keep the Chug vids coming and stay away from the virus.
Great video yet again, I love watching them. I was born in Chippenham and although I live in Cornwall Wiltshire still feels home
England is on my bucket list...Thank You..
Chug looks great with the bags . Another interesting adventure. Enjoy.
Sandy, What be you doing, taking on virile young men antics Really the picture your meant to portray! Brilliant vlog , thanks and cheers
Sandy my friend I do so love your videos. Of all the people I watch on you tube your travel videos show me so much history. I love the old buildings and the stories behind them and the palace where they are at. Keep up the good work my brother.
Love Chug
Brilliant ride and excellent narration during the ride.
Fantastic that she started first time 👍🏻
A beautiful trip through the English countryside Sandy . I haven't been on a bike since I was a very young lad ,my first vehicle was a Bridgestone 90 with the rotary gear box , my goodness I loved and miss that old bike
Thanks for the video - a wonderful video reminder of our trip thru that area almost 20 years ago. A wonderful (for us) cold rainy afternoon, we had Whitehorse hill to ourselves for a couple hours. We enjoyed a couple pints at that pub, ‘quaint’ is definitely the word. Spent the early evening in Lambourn, having to pull over and allow the racehorses on their evening gallops to pass by. Love those thatched roofs.
Ivy Cottage Sandy is beautiful. Just had a look at it on Goggle Maps. We sure do live on a magical Island. I have been travelling the quiet lanes of four counties, my own backyard and beyond of late and never tire of the gems that I encounter along the way, man made and natural. You and Chug are fit like hand in glove 😊
I don't know how I missed a Chug video. Great scenery!
6 weeks of winter...a far cry from the 7 months we have to deal with in the Great White North eh. (Canada) Cant wait to get the bike out after a long cold sleep...cheers.
Excellent outing Sandy, I hope you and Chug make many more videos.
Thank you for showing us an amazing part of our country. Ps look after Chug what a machine
Lovely video thanks for showing us all, I love country Laning on my bike too. 👍🇬🇧
Great to see your lovely vids Sandy, need them more than ever now ........ many thanks and look after yourself !
Thank you for taking us along with you. Most enjoyable.
Really needed this taste of a calmer world. With all the doom, gloom, and chaos right now this was a tonic. Best of luck to you and yours Sandy.
Thanks Mark, the world has gone a bit crazy aint it!
Lovely video Sandy, we are lucky to have so many beautiful little villages in our neck of the woods, we will have to go to the White horse for a drink in the Summer, if there open by then lol,
thanks for sharing this Rideout, Terry.
Very enjoyable and calming in these times of stress. Thanks for sharing.
Loved this video Sandy, Terry and I have been to the " Prettiest Pub in England " many times usually in Summer when it is bedecked with cottage garden plants and red Geraniums, and at one time taking my Mum and Dad it looked fantastically pretty ,on entering the bar my Dad looked at the price of a pint and said " Much cheaper at my local " ahhh I wanted the ground to open up etc etc ,Dads eh! Lol😂🤣 We will definitely be going back there in the Spring /Summer and sit out in the little back garden Blessings xxxShaz
Such a fascinating place to live and be able to explore for years. One thing though, the roads are so narrow compared to where I live. It makes the place more quaint. Thanks for taking us on your journey. Tony.
Nice one Sandy, I have been to England a few times (son is in London too), but I have never ventured out into the Country side - I will not make that mistake next time I visit your land. My land is actually on the other side of the pond, but I live in Germany with my wife & kids and don't regret anything.
That explains your wondering spirit! Great ride. 73s es tks.
Love the timelessness of those little Hamlets and villages. Two years ago I made it back from Australia and visited my ancestral village in Lincolnshire. The village of Waddington, also Harmston and Boothby Graffoe. It felt as if I were returning home. It was a seven week trip but not nearly enough time really.
Love these motorcycle videos.
Actually, I love seeing all your content.
Best wishes from across the pond.Stay healthy,Sandy.
Great to see Chug out again Sandy, lovely stuff!
Really enjoyable video and good to see chug back out again. I am in North Yorkshire and on Thursday did a ride that included Coverdale over to Kettlewell. Again many small hamlets that luckily are by passed by most tourists. Keep safe in the current crisis.
I find these little "Chugabout" journeys with the commentary really quite enjoyable Sandy - add another superb dimension to your great channel. Did you know the Romany family surname? Cheers.
Hi Elliot,
Yes it is my mothers family name Frankham, quite a well know gypsy name I believe. I know many of them settled at Newbury in Berkshire in the Edwardian period with my Great Grandmother Susan Neale marrying my Great Grandfather John Frankham, they ended up living at Ivy cottage with my grandfather also called John Frankham and my Great Uncle Bill sending money back from the war to purchase the property.
My parents were offered the cottage for free back in the 1950's provided they would care for Great Granny Sue but instead mum and dad got a brand new council house in Watchfield, Uncle Bill stayed and cared for Granny Sue til she died a year later..Then Bill married Aunty Beat, they never had children. Bill died in the early 1970's leaving it to his wife and from there on the cottage went out of the family tree so to speak!
It's not so long since Sandy's relatives came down out of the trees.....
@@WiltshireMan How interesting! This adds a whole new dimension to this video and really brings it to life. I'm beginning to understand why you love the villages and countryside so much, Sandy. As I've said before, your enthusiasm is infectious. Take care. Keith (Hants)
After they came down from the trees most of them emigrated to Australia leaving the sensible ones here in Good olde England:)
LOL. Ha Ha :-)
Yes, most likely.
All those people sentenced to Paradise. :-)
A wonderful tour. Thank you good sir.
Lovely vid. Woolstone used to be my local haunt when I was at Shrivenham. Beautiful area. I’ve got a bit of Hungarian gypsy blood in me as well I reckon. Always had a wanderlust that can’t be sated. ‘What’s round the next corner.....and the next...and the one after that’
Good to see you back out on the bike again, lovely informative video, keep up the good work, regards from Argyll.
Thoroughly enjoyed the ride with you. Looking forward to more.
Thanks, Wiltshire Man, for sharing your special places - and reminding us in dark times what pleasure there may be in slowing down to look about us, seeking out the beauty these islands still possess...
I stayed at the white horse in woolstone when I did the ridgeway last year. It’s a friendly place with good food.
Some nice footage there Sandy and always great to get out on Chug eh.... Lovely place that 'Ivy Cottage' and others around there too.
Thank you for taking me along!
Stay well.
Wow Sandy I should have figured you were a man that rode a motorcycle! I have a Honda goldwing myself and I enjoy it very much! It's amazing to me how narrow your roads are over there in England! I'm guessing they're narrow because your country is a lot older than the United States and predates cars by many years, going back to the days when people walked or rode horses. I'm in the US and and ours are nothing like yours, but I suppose you're used to it., like you are riding on the wrong side of the road! 😁 Thanks for taking us along on the ride, It was a beautiful countryside to look at. My grandfather came from England, He lived in Seaham Harbor and came over to the US in the 1920s as a young boy, I haven't been over there yet, but I'm going to eventually! From what my Dad told me our last name is very "English" and is as common as "Smith" over there, Tom Bewick. 73, k2bew
A wonderful video Sandy. Thanks for taking us along on your very interesting trip and tour. It was such a relaxing and enjoyable journey, I hope that you had as much fun riding as we did watching. Take care my friend and please stay healthy (you, your family, and your precious little dogs.) Let's all calm down and just stay positive, careful, and focused on getting through this virus that seems to have a stranglehold on our lives right now. Better days are ahead and we will have learned to appreciate them more after we get through all of this little bump in the road. See you on the next one.
Hi Camp Fire Yes indeed. Things are very different at the moment but we will get through this sooner or later. There is no other choice
Thank you Sandy for a lovely tour, nice scenery and stunning little cottages and hamlets. It's a lot greener down with you! I live in Shetland and it's still strong winds and sleet/snow showers and the countryside is still sleeping at the moment. All the best Rupert.
Thanks for the vid Sandy, i noticed you had left the indicator on (easily done) i wired up a 12v buzzer and fitted it to the inside of the fuel tank cover where my knee rests on it to give me a second warning device, it doesn't bare thinking about if a car pulls out on you thinking you are turning, keep up the good work, thanks.
Grate video. You live in a beautiful part of England. Wish I could join YOU . Stay safe
Thank you for sharing your adventure!
Thank You, Sandy. I love these tours. 👍🙂
Thanks for getting rid of the music...I think bike videos we should always get the bike...xx
Lovely trip! You're a great tour guide.
Thanks again Sandy, for another "Chug-about" and the fantastic views of your homeland. Again I am in awe of all the duplicate places we have here named after the places there. I've mentioned them to you before. for one, I live in the heart of Berkshire county, in Massachusetts.Town of Hancock. I could list well over 20 towns and villages with in an hours ride of here that are names you would know. Thanks again for tour/ride. it was great! as always. thank you for doing it and most of all sharing it. (worked a cw contest today for a bit. on 40m, 73 CUDTL? someday hopfully. de Ellis WA1RKS
There must have been someone who emigrated from these parts who settled over there Ellis. Sounds like a lovely place to live. I have been on the bands too recently and had a qso with a W4 on 20 meters. Sigs not very strong though
Nice rideout Sandy, stay safe and well.
Thanks for the tour. It was lovely. See, you don't need music to make an interesting video. Surprised to so few people out and about. I guess they're sheltering in place. Stay safe Sandy.
Did you not hear the music of the Enfield?
You have a beautiful country there.
Very nice, thanks for the video and hello from 🇦🇺
lovely work sandy - Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful places Sandy.
Sandy, Thats a great model flying ( slope soaring) site on that hill. Keep active keep safe, still need some proper gloves. Your hands will thank me one day.
Great video good thing about yours videos not just on 1 subject I got my first trail camera after seeing your footage keep it up
Oh that really brought memories flooding back of cycle tours as a lad. When I was a boy I lived out there where my dad was stationed. I got around Wiltshire, Dorset, Hants and Somerset.
Sitting here drinking some beers, that was a nice video to watch!! Thank you
The Himalayan is an ideal "bimble bike". We have plenty of back lanes here in North East Wales and a Royal Enfield dealer in Denbigh (A&D motorcycles) . I don't have room in the garage at the moment but I will eventually get around to getting my own version of "Chug"
Brilliant! thanks for the ride. atb
Thanks, Sandy mate I needed that, great cometary thanks for taking us along.
Beautiful video, good to see so many old buildings so well maintained, . I followed your rout on google maps, beautiful country.
Wonderful Sandy!
thank you for sharing, Wiltshire Mam, you and family have a safe weekend
Lovely journey! Some real gem properties! Lovely strong camera and great commentary. Many thanks
There are some real beautiful properties here for sure:)
Let this be a reminder... you must cancel your turn signals after a turn. I have the same problem and have them blinking for miles on end cause I'm forgetful. I will design and place a buzzer so I can hear the darn thing blinking remembering to cancel after a turn. But thanks for showing us around the Ye Olde England. Bet you can't wait for the good weather to shine upon us once again. Take care for now.
Cheers for taking us back in time 👍
Lovely video, just fired up my Enfield today, this feels my heart with joy and I am looking forward to visiting these precious places, Demographic Replacement by 2066 makes me wonder about the future of these beautiful thatched cottages, best wishes,,.
Another great vid' - takes me back
It was nice to see some of Olde England:)
Great video. So pleased to see the pic of Grandma and Aunty Helen. I’m very proud of our gypsy heritage. I have a pic of Susan and Willian Frankham with cousin George. Did I not send it to you? Dad and I always pay a visit to East Garston in spring, so we are due to go soon. We always stop at the chip shop in Lambourn on the way home.
Hi Buzzard Girl was wondering what the surname was, i know some of the Frankhams, it runs in my vains to, but don't rocker nickes on here? God bless you & keep well, Wayne.
Hi BG Yes I got photos of Susan and William on my PC. I should have put them in this video but forgot to when I was editing it. I can still remember Marj and Arthur like it was yesterday, I was very close to your Grandad when I was younger and spent a lot of time with him.
I can remember vaguely visiting Uncle Bill and Aunty Beat who lived at Ivy Cottage, I remember walking up the side path, and sitting in the living room. The windows back then didn't open, they were simple wooden frames with a pain of glass. There was also an old pram in one corner of the room that was part of an act that Bill used to show. He had two dogs, one would jump into the pram and the other would push the pram. He loved those dogs
He was very sentimental, I think the whole family is a bit this way, I know I am!
Ivy Cottage looks gorgeous.
Thank you for your interesting commentary and for the delightful Chug-along, Sandy 👍
Great run Sandy ! Stay Safe
Nice ride there on Chug, may be the last one for some time, maybe time for more ham-shack Sunday’s? really enjoy ALL your vids stay safe and keep posting, atb
If we get lock in then it'll be Hamshack Mon to Friday too
😀😀😀
I was wondering when Chug would come out of hibernation, I was out on the bike today. It was good to clear my head of all the worries that are about currently. Stunning villages, Ivy Cottage is beautiful. I recognise that white horse from somewhere..... Take care Sandy.
Really good thank you
I loved this, though I am a bit freaked out by the narrowness of the roads and I cannot get used to the perspective as you drive on the left. Being from the U.S. I think right side of the road. The scenery is beautiful and the villages are remarkable. Keep well in these tough times.
LOL yes Michelle I can understand how strange it must seem:) The villages are really beautiful though
Wiltshire Man 😀
Well Sandy , you really out did yourself on this one . Outstanding look at some of your lands countryside and villages . Just wonderful . Thanks for the Tour . Those thatched roofs are amazing !! Must have been a great place to have been raised . Thanks again .. gubs
What a beautiful stunning area.
Apparently - At the flat top of dragons hill there is a bare patch of earth that nothing grows on... The reason being, its where George sleighed the dragon and where the blood soaked into the ground, nothing grows !! Anyhow, great video.. I love the sound of the Royal Enfield, it seems to have plenty of torque for low speed grunt !!
yes I know

@@WiltshireMan Argh !! Thats before I discovered & followed your channel Sandy... I think I ought to look through your back catalogue !!
Exellent video as usual Sandy. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Some folks are very lucky to live in such a tranquil location.
That's a lovely cottage Sandy . Shame it didn't come down to you , especially with the barn staying intact for the workshop.
Beautiful area there.
Stay well , all of you.
Great video, with no music.
Loved every single second of this, thankyou. I always thought there was gypsy blood in your veins with your wanderlust spirit...
My mums side of the family have Romany blood Bry, they settled at East Garston just before the great war WW1 but prior to that were living in caravans near Newbury Berkshire. I know quite a bit about them. They were all softly spoken, gentle and sentimental types from what I understand. I have a beautiful and very moving poem written by Great Uncle Bill entitled "Childhood memories of East Garston, I may do a video on it some day.
Bill was a member of the Magic Circle and I can still clearly remember he had a large caravan in the garden and he had two dogs, one would jump into a childs pram and the other would push it. A lovely man, the whole family were lovely from what I have heard. Very soft and gentle types but they also first hand went through the rigours of the great war. Both Bill and Grandfather were in the battle of the Somme. Bill an armed soldier grandfather in either the Red cross or an unarmed regiment, I'm not sure about this but he may have been a conscientious objector, either way he did not carry a gun.
@@WiltshireMan Wow, isn't it lovely to know so much. I traced my family back to a wedding in 1563!! Amazing how they lived and what the did in their lives....Stay safe Sandy and Mandy
Good to see you out bud
Nice little vid for the 'Chugaholics' amongst us :)
Wiltshire man is a Chugoholic and a Stoveoholic. The Jinx is a Stovo too. He told me he has been using meths stoves recently. He's on the slippery slope
@@WiltshireMan He should never be allowed to forget when we were up on that tor in a howling blizzard and his fancy gas gadget failed him....but my trangia saved his soup....never let him forget... ua-cam.com/video/nqJnN0CGuZk/v-deo.html
RIP Kenny Rogers. A true legend.
Yes indeed
