In the mid 80s, I was working for the FAA in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. One night, Tina had a concert in Iowa City and I had to work the midnight shift that night. About 1 AM, the airport security guy called me on radio and told me Tina's entourage were on their way to their plane and asked if I wanted to go down to the ramp and watch them board. So, the two of us were sitting on the hood of his car when the group of limos rolled up. Tina got out and walked straight over to us, said hi, asked what our jobs were, than thanked us profusely for being on duty in the middle of the night. You knew she had to be tired if not exhausted, but she was as kind and gracious as you can possibly imagine. Very classy lady!
Tina was a force! I watched her from the time I was six, all through her horrid marriage to that creep, and through her renewal and the rise to find herself. She was so well-loved and respected, especially from women. So many of us could relate to an abuser and that she found the inner strength to rid herself of him was an inspiration. Not to mention the amount of talent that amazing woman had, she will be missed!
My wife and I saw Tina live shortly after this song came out. The whole show was amazing but she added an element to this song. Her band included a VERY well built guy in a muscle shirt on the saxophone. The sax is a sexy instrument but he took it to a whole new level. During his solo in the middle of this song, he was gently hip thrusting the sax. The girls in the crowd went crazy. RIP Tina. What a performer!
This is really when Tina found her footing as a solo artist, but she’d been singing since she was a kid in church. Later Ike Turner, her terrible abusive ex-husband, had made her part of his act and she really became the star of the show. When she finally got away from him she had to rebuild her life and career, and it took time, and a lot of work, to get to this point where she was certified the absolute queen of rock… she projected absolute confidence. This song is definitely one of the most iconic songs and one of the most instantly memorable vocal performances of all time. You absolutely nailed it when you said “she’s great and she knows she’s great.” “Simply the Best” is another song like this where she really gets her teeth into it and absolutely sings the ass off of the song.
It has been claimed that Tina posessed the best set of legs of any grandmother performing on a music stage. Tina was pure class from the top of her styled hair to the tips of her unusually high heels and everything inbetween.
In addition to singing, writing songs and acting, Tina also penned a number of books. One of them 'Happiness Becomes You: A Guide To Changing Your Life For Good' is something she certainly knew about after her miserable time with Ike and the years she spent getting back into a livable life. Love Tina, love this song, love your reaction and analysis.
Tina Turner. "Best of" would be anything she ever sang. Her on stage audience favorites are Proud Mary and Rolling on the River (both from early days with Ike). But personally the best is a whole concert with back up singer/dancers. Watching her physical drive when on stage can wear you completely out without even getting up or lifting a finger. Every chance you get put her on you tube. (There are a lot of us that can not use Twitter for security reasons.) And watch her acting in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. I would recommend starting with the series start Mad Max but only if you're into post apocalyptic action movies.
Greatest comeback in music history. Hard to believe just a year or so prior to this she was performing in dinner theatres and small venues for very little money, on food stamps and in debt. Tina rebirth after finding the right management and team was so deserved, talent can't be denied or kept down. Stunning lady and absolute legend!
Fun fact: Tina hated this song when she first heard the lyrics. She thought the question was the dumbest thing she had ever heard. "What's love got to do with it? Everything!! Love has everything to do with it." But she was convinced to sing it and all ended well.
I think a lot of these vocal stylings that traditionally and technically would be viewed as undesirable, like Tina’s nasality here for example, would typically come about because the singer was originally struggling to be heard in a loud band context, (at least in the rock era). And nasality is one way to brighten the vocals so they better cut through a dense mix. Many of the most beloved rock singers have sung in a way that wouldn’t necessarily be described as traditionally ”beautiful”, yet it works because they have found ways to make it work - and sound beautiful.
Ok, Adrienne Warren played the leading role as "Tina Turner" in The Tina Turner Musical. But. Nevertheless i don't understand why did you use her photo here. 🤔
Tina had a hard life abused by her x husband and yes, she knew how good she was but that was tempered by the fact that she was so down to earth such a kind and thoughtful person anybody who met her would attest to that. I saw that at one of her concerts she jumped of stage (panicking her security detail) to talk to and hug and kiss people in wheelchairs on either side of the stage having to run across the front of the first-row seats to do so, on her way back to get on the stage she spotted a young girl about 10 or 11 dressed up like her hairstyle and everything she stopped gestured for her to stand up and turn around to massive applause from the audience and then gave her a huge hug I bet that young girl remembers that for the rest of her life.
A very nice reaction from such a young woman with a such a nice voice as yours. But Tina was the first woman in the cover of the Rolling Stone Magazine, and the only woman as a solo artist in the Guiness book of records. She ng woman with a such a nice voice as yours. But Tina was the first woman in the cover of the Rolling Stone Magazine, and the only woman as a solo artist in the Guiness book of records. She was better than Frank Sinatra in 88 and only Paul Mc McCartney beats her on the records. But Tina is really the best, a Bonnie Tyler song( I love Bonnie, and Frank, and Paul. all stars but who could perform like Tina?)
I can't believe that you never heard or saw Tina sing this song and even mentioned her "raspy" voice!! Have you never heard her sing anything? As a singer yourself, that's absolutely shameful, and unbelievable!!
It amazes me how much Black women are attached to the use of "wigs". I don't mean that as an insult or a bad way. The way they can change their looks to suit their moods is the same for "Cross Dressers" and Trans women in the beginning of their transition. More power to all 3 groups or any others that need that kind of help to be who they want to be. Deny the worlds reality and insert your own. I just want everyone to safe, happy and secure in their life choices.
Check out the Tina Turner biopic of the same name, What’s Love Got to Do with It, starring Angela Bassett as Tina and Lawrence Fishburne as Ike Turner. Both were nominated for Academy Awards for their portrayal👍🏼

Can you do The Verve(Richard Ashcroft) any of their songs from Urban Hymns…
Love when a professional singer, breaks down a performance like this, they can explain and break down a song so much better than us regular folk lol

Great story thanks for giving us an insight into her personality.

2. Waiting for more Pentatonix from you.
3. More Tina, too! Nutbush City Limits!!

a classic song done by a legend-others have done this but Tina owned this-this was great watching it live with you.

I was wondering when you would get around to honoring Tina after her passing. This is a great way. Thank you. Better late than never. 😢
Tina's voice was one of the reasons why she changed from r&b to rock. The picture in the end is from cover of Private dancer album.
ROP TINA TURNER.... legendary lady ere...she survived the most brutal of domestic violence....❤❤
I was in my 20s, in the mid 1980s, & most of my METAL FRIENDS, HAD STATED, THAT, Tina Turner was the hottest woman on planet Earth!!
Greatest comeback in music history. Hard to believe just a year or so prior to this she was performing in dinner theatres and small venues for very little money, on food stamps and in debt.

Double dutch is rope jumping over with two ropes coming down to the inside. Looks like that jumper was working over a single rope.
Loved this one maggie ❤❤
Way cool wearing diamonds with a Jean jacket

Unpopular opinion but......... She's simply the best! Better than all the rest🤷. Better than anyone..
