I grew up in the 50's and 60's. She nailed it, performers back then had a lot of class. Respected their audiences and performed like it really mattered.
It’s not often I see reactions from people with vocal training and can understand the complexities of range and runs. This is one of the best reactions I’ve seen of a standard classic that set the bar for others to follow and improve on. Aren’t you happy to be in an era where the internet can reveal amazing talent just waiting to be ‘discovered’ by others for our release n pleasure. “To the sea, to the sea to the OPEN ARMS of the sea…..” Remember that many, in 65, left and went overseas with a doubtful aspiration of coming home…..”wait for me…” “Oh my love, my darling….” “I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again..” “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot..”
I’m 70 years old and this is the music my generation listened to when we were teenagers in the 1960’s. Your review and your reactions are a hoot! Lots of great memories tied to songs like this one. I would love to hear your full version of this. Thanks 👍👍👍

No way can this song be sung by any other... than by this man. Many have tried but all have failed. It's just one of those performances that can't be beat.
@@DavidSmith-kn7ef That’s the version my Dad knows and loves. I got him to listen to the Righteous Brother’s version about a year or so ago, and he likes it, but his emotions are attached to the 1955 version - which he then introduced me to. He already had 5 of us kids (ended up being 8 of us) by the time the Righteous Brother’s version came out, so he didn’t have much time to listen to the radio by that point. Come to think of it, there is another reason he wasn’t familar with this version: I remember us having cars without radios when I was very young, as Dad thought it provided a dangerous distraction while driving back at that time. By the mid 70s he relented, which we were all happy about.

I absolutely love it when someone discovers this amazing performance for the first time. His voice is magical. If I believed in angels I would assume that they sound like Bobby Hatfield.
There is also a video somewhere here on youtube, from the same show, where they sing a song together with Andy. Can't remember the name of the song, but I do remember I liked the video very much! xD
That's back when music was music. I'm 73 and remember them well. Doo wop in the late 50s to the 70s. These guys are as smooooth as it gets. They definitely had CLASS. I get chills everytime I hear the Brothers
This is the firs time I've seen this clip with Andy Williams at the start and end. I love the look on Andy's face at the end. He's clearly thinking "how dare the little bastard come on my show and sing like that."
IMO, the most romantic song ever! One thing I sort of miss from those days is the sense of respect. Performers "dressed up" for their audience, and the audience was respectful in terms of allowing them to perform without a lot of shouting and other noise...saving their applause and cheering for the end.
Sometimes, when I'm feeling sentimental (after a drink or 8) I'll watch this, just cuz I know it will ignite the waterworks & give me a visceral, emotional response. In my VERY humble opinion, it has to be among a small handful of the greatest live vocal performances of all time. I've watched sooo many ppl react to this & be moved to tears (on & off UA-cam).
Maggie, I have been listening to this song since a child in the sixties. After listening to your sharing insights into what he was doing with his voice while singing has made my appreciation of the song even stronger. Thank you.
Bobby Hatfield had a VERY solid soprano range on the top. He was often singing around the soprano high Cs (his highest note is an E above that). And they were full, free and ringing. Insane voice.
@@amcasanave As a boy soprano 10 or 11 years old I could easily hit high C--I assume it was C6. At the start of my singing lesson the teacher would ask me to hit the note and then she would hit the key on the piano and it would match perfectly. Of course, when I was about 13 my voice started to change that was it for the soprano range.
Bobby makes it look easy to sing like an angel. Other singers grimace like they're trying to squeeze the notes out of their arse. Bobby was smooth, relaxed, soulful and gifted.

This is Bobby's song. No one can sing it any better. I remember hearing this song when it came out and it was just so beautiful. It will always be Bobby's song.
Definitely Bobby's song ❤
Just makes you wish you could go back to this time, everything was so romantic and real. What an angel of a man! 🥰
THIS VOICE EXPRESSING THIS SONG BRINGS TEARS TO YOUR EYES!! NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY...NOBODY CAN SING THIS SONG LIKE BOBBY HATFIELD. R.I.P. BOBBY
❤
I've only heard this song about a million times over the years but I love watching reactions to it. He has a beautiful voice.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my LIVE stream later today?

I absolutely LOVED the Righteous Brothers. I turned 16 the summer Unchained Melody came out & cried everytime I heard it. A girlfriend of mine was dating a young Marine & the two of them listened to almost nothing but the Righteous Bothers, so my Navy boyfriend & knew all their songs too.😄
Very sweet memories to accompany a very sweet song & artist. Thank you.
Great seeing someone who knows and appreciates what he did. Watching your face and enthusiasm was truly priceless!
When Bobby sang he felt it and made certain you did too. So happy they did solos to display their individual talents. This version was better than the studio version which charted twice. RIP Bobby Hatfield you are treasured and missed.
Back in the days before autotune, this is what we expected from out artists. Live, one man, one microphone done in one take.
😊
Pleasssssse check out Bobby Hatfield singing " Summertime" 100% sure that you will be blown away.
That’s What It Was Like In The Sixties! No Autocues, You Had To Know The Song Off By Heart! The Singer Was , Of Course, Bobby Hatfield! The Other Guy Is Bill Medley!
His mother in the audience too.
This is easily one of the most romantic songs of the 20th century....And this was before auto tune....just pure talent!!!!RIP Bobby...
ETERNAL LOVE and GRATITUDE BELOVED BOBBY HATFIELD......YOU are still bringing indescribable JOY, LOVE and BLISS to millions of SOULS all these years later 🙏🏽💚😇💯‼️‼️‼️👏🏿👏🏼👏🏿👏🏼
I still get goosebumps every time I hear this song
The song, the voice, the suit, the accompaniment? It’s perfect is what it is. Absolutely perfect.
Wow, I'd never seen that interview with them at the beginning before. Thank you for including that!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you on my Livestream TODAY in about 2 hours?
On this particular show (1965), he dedicated this song to our young men in Vietnam, and the women who longed for them to come home.
Very Cool. I did not know that.
I was in Hiram W Johnson high school Class 1965 in Sacramento California
... l dance slow dance with my high school girlfriend...we were married 1967... l went to college 1968... my life changed when thousands of young men in college had our S-2 college draft deferment revoked and reclassified to 1-A then drafted into US Army to serve 2 years during Vietnam War... came home .... not well
A beautiful voice with enviable range and control... and he was handsome too ! I love me some Bobby Hatfield!
Glad you enjoyed! Did you like other videos on my channel?
I grew up in the 50's and 60's. She nailed it, performers back then had a lot of class. Respected their audiences and performed like it really mattered.
He only gets measurably richer in the lower registers, lilting and playful in the melody, and soars to unbelievable heights so effortlessly.
Now matter how many times I’ve heard this song, it always gives me the chills. Just, pure, raw God given talent.
A perfectly written song and performed effortlessly perfect. I’ve never heard anyone do this song justice
This was my wedding song almost 30 years ago. I doubt there’s a better one.
In 2 worlds.......AMAZINGLY MAGNIFICENT..........ETERNAL GRATITUDE BOBBY 🙏🏽💚😇💯‼️‼️‼️
“To the sea, to the sea to the OPEN ARMS of the sea…..”
Remember that many, in 65, left and went overseas with a doubtful aspiration of coming home…..”wait for me…” “Oh my love, my darling….”
“I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again..” “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot..”
There's a lot happening in this technically but he does it so effortlessly
RIP Bobby. Absolutely effortless and no one does it better.
I’m 70 years old and this is the music my generation listened to when we were teenagers in the 1960’s. Your review and your reactions are a hoot! Lots of great memories tied to songs like this one. I would love to hear your full version of this. Thanks 👍👍👍
I an 66 and saw them live in about 1965 if memory serves my parents were big fans
@@ronfuqua2117 Let me tell you that this was just as righteous in 1997.
@@ronfuqua2117 Me too. They opened for The Beatles in Cincinnati Gardens along with Dusty Springfield. They were the best part of the show.
Same here. I'm also 70 and I've loved the Righteous Brothers for years!! Their sound is really timeless. (Oh, and I remember watching the Andy Williams Show on TV. One of my favorites.)

Over 50 years ago. None of the auto tune we have today. Just pure talent live. He nailed it.
I really appreciate that you acknowledged the wonderful orchestration supporting this song. Also - I really appreciate your reactions
This song ( and his performance) became the gateway to my lifelong passion for all music .I WAS 15yrs old then ...IM NOW 75YRS....and still listening.
No way can this song be sung by any other... than by this man. Many have tried but all have failed. It's just one of those performances that can't be beat.

Original single came out in 1955 got into the top ten by Al hibbler
@@DavidSmith-kn7ef Hibbler's was the 3d recording

These 2 guys were just MAGIC together!!!!!
I absolutely love it when someone discovers this amazing performance for the first time. His voice is magical. If I believed in angels I would assume that they sound like Bobby Hatfield.
I can't believe she had never heard that some before. I have heard it in the grocery store if nothing else.
I would think that after hearing Bobby you would believe in Angels
So true
If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know they've got a hell of a band !
Hmm I've seen this video hundreds of times on yt and never have seen the intro part with Andy Williams, great insight into the Righteous Brothers...
Yes,same for me🤔
I've only seen it from where he starts the song.
The talking part with the three of them was great.
Same here. Self deprecating humor is always welcome.
Williams was a good singer in his own right.
Same here. I've seen a gazillion times this video but never the whole thing. Very rare.

Haha
Jive Bunny :: he was used to being upstaged he had the Osmand brothers and the Jackson five perform on his show more than once.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
IMO, the most romantic song ever! One thing I sort of miss from those days is the sense of respect. Performers "dressed up" for their audience, and the audience was respectful in terms of allowing them to perform without a lot of shouting and other noise...saving their applause and cheering for the end.
I love your comment; So True
Yes,like the girls at a Beatles show😁
Sometimes, when I'm feeling sentimental (after a drink or 8) I'll watch this, just cuz I know it will ignite the waterworks & give me a visceral, emotional response. In my VERY humble opinion, it has to be among a small handful of the greatest live vocal performances of all time. I've watched sooo many ppl react to this & be moved to tears (on & off UA-cam).
👍
Just what I'm doing right now
Glad I found my people.
Maggie, I have been listening to this song since a child in the sixties. After listening to your sharing insights into what he was doing with his voice while singing has made my appreciation of the song even stronger. Thank you.
My pleasure! 🤗
God given voice, he was a natural born singer that could pretty much do it all.
Bobby Hatfield = masterful angelic, GOLD...the rarest gem of all time!
Thank you for your comment. Did you also like the new reaction video I just posted today?
RIP
Bobby Hatfield had a VERY solid soprano range on the top. He was often singing around the soprano high Cs (his highest note is an E above that). And they were full, free and ringing. Insane voice.
He actually finishes with a G above High C, very rare for a man.
@@amcasanave I meant the high C as in the soprano high C. Not C5.
@@KajiVocals that G is below C6. It's a solid Mezzo note.
The best rendition of this song. Bobby Hatfield live without autotune and all those gadgets that singers take today! Unbelievable !
Bobby makes it look easy to sing like an angel. Other singers grimace like they're trying to squeeze the notes out of their arse. Bobby was smooth, relaxed, soulful and gifted.
EXACTLY! I have such a hard time watching singers who grimace when they sing.
