Can I ask though why it’s sounds so muffled? Almost like listening through it with covering over your ears and there are some vocals still - sounds like a distant echo? 🤔
The only way to remove vocals with no loss of quality is with the stems of the songs and mute out the vocals before mixing down. Anything else is a workaround. It’s like throwing 20 different colours of paint into a bucket and mixing them all together, then trying to pick out a cup of just one original colour.

Hi. I want to ask for help. I did the operation the way you did, only I didn't get the end result like you did. I need technical help. What sound card should I use? What kind of sound card should I put in my machine to have perfect quality in the end?
Hi, it's nothing to do with your soundcard. The success of this purely depends on how the song is mixed and mastered. Mixed and mastered with vocals purely on the centre channel you'll get a decent result (not perfect) but mixed and mastered any other way and you won't get any sort of result at all.
unfortunately. Impossible to erase completely the voice as you did. Are there some other features to make it possible. I would grateful for your advice.
Hi Isabelle, bear in mind what you're effectively asking for here is to thrown 10 different paint colours in one tub, mix them all up and then pick out just one of the original colours. The success of this technique depends totally on the way the song is produced.
i was struggling to get it work. tried adjusting all the levels and nothing was working.. its cause i was trying to do it in the 'multitrack' section instead of the 'waveform' section 🤦♂
I want to have clean voice for voice over under a recut scene where the editor has not got the original clean music and fx tracks - so the opposite of this really but I guess you just select the side tracks or whatever they are called, rather than the centre?
The only way to get the precision you want is to have the stems to the song to eliminate what you don't want and create your own mix down. Think of this as mixing a number of paint colours together and then asking to remove just one specific colour. Any of the methods whether native in the software of via third party plug ins is a workaround.
Meh good to know maybe eventually. But to come across a song that you can use this method with and actually work is very rare. You really just have to get lucky with how the center channel was recorded. Which is why even the song used in this video was specifically recorded with the center channel as an example, so it could actually work.
It won’t perfectly remove the vocal unfortunately. This technique is a workaround. If you’d like perfect no vocals you’ll need to buy an instrumental or use the stems of the song to create your own mix down.
Well I got a rock. I tried this on a audio track and no matter what I change the vocals remain. In fact the instrumentals disappear on some settings. So what can I do now?
hi mike thank you for your suggestions. i have one track with 2 diffrent types of voices. can i select only 1st guy voice in one selection in adobe audition
Does the same work with movies if I want to extract a soundtrack that isn't available in the market? The problem with movies is that you have to deal also with sounds in the background like reloading a gun, footsteps, etc...
Hi Moses, likely not as most movies are mastered with surround sound. Also copyright would prevent you from using your captured audio unless coming from the official soundtrack.
This works by isolating the channel that the vocals are mixed into the track on, the centre channel. It would therefore not be possible to isolate the main vocals to remove without also removing the background vocals if they're both on the centre channel without having access to the original mix and removing the main vocal there.
I want to remove vocals from a piece of music I recorded and want to shazam. Only someone is talking through it and I can't find the track. Suggestions?
If Shazam can't identify the track with some background talking it's unlikely it'll identify it if you attempted vocal remove. Its highly unlikely you'd be able to remove the speech and leave any decent quality audio.
No, I mean this is not the solution. Sound mixing for movies is very complex so to remove certain elements you would need to remix the soundtrack without them in.
First I would suggest updating to the latest version of Audition. Second it’s worth remembering this is a very good work around but it is only a work around. If the vocals don’t sit perfectly in the centre channel it’s unlikely you’ll get a full removal so what you’re looking to do may not be 100% successful.

Hello i am beginner and I have FL studio and adobe audition. Is there anything that FL studio can do that audition cannot do when it comes to vocal mixing and turning a raw track into a final vocally mixed and professional song material?
I tried this, but even putting start at 20hz and end at 24hz I still hear vocals. Could it be because the voices have heavy reverb on them (like, almost concert hall type reverb)
It sounds like the central channel extractor might not be achieving the desired isolation. Experiment with widening the frequency range or trying other tools like EQ notches to further reduce vocals. Better yet you may need a specialist tool for the job like iZotope RX.
Bear in mind this is in essence throwing a mixture of colours into a paint tin, mixing them together and then asking to pick out just one of the original colours. Sadly you might well end up with some of the vocals but sometimes it works very well.

Please help me out with a way... it's too expensive to pay for every new track I need... please guide us through a way to get rid of those reverbs echos from recorded Bollywood/ Hollywood tracks...
This is a workaround technique and works very well on most tracks but a track where the vocals have stereo effects applied it will not work I'm afraid.
This did not work well for my rock song as it just made the quality super bad and I still couldn't get rid of the vocals, if I messed with it more perhaps we'd get a little better, but I think it will be easier for me to use a third party ai tool instead though they usually cost money.
