The “doesn’t care” and “grumpy” get bandied around a lot. But after playing SO many iconic parts, I think his detachment is not only healthy, but the best possible reaction.

Harrison Ford is probably my all time favorite “Hollywood Star.”
The ‘80, ‘81, ‘82 run of Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Blade Runner has to be one of the most incredible runs of all time.

Nobody does fame like Harrison Ford. His nonchalance about the idea of being "famous" and almost purely doing what he does for the sake of his own love of it is a lesson for us all. Don't be bogged down by the perceptions of others, don't let that perception inflate your ego as you see so many these days do. He enjoys the work yet doesn't let it control his life in a way most other actors seem to. We're all just humans at the end of the day, and Harrison is such a great example of it.
Thank you Dodford for another magnificent doc, someone else who clearly loves the work he does, and it makes it shine through each and every video

I feel like that’s down to multiple reasons why he is how he is, firstly he didn’t become a movie star at 18, he worked normal jobs and faced rejection in the acting world, and also he became famous when he was 35.
So by that age you have alot more of a grounded view on life so the materialistic stuff and being famous isn’t important to you and if it’s bringing in the money to give yourself a decent life and your family one then that’s good enough.

I can't believe I've gone this long without knowing Harrison is from Chicago. This legitimately explains his whole personality regarding his acting career and his views on star wars. His generation were those of quite confidence, and a certain indifference to recognition and attachment. My grandparents act very similar to how Harrison has in interviews, and I've seen this perspective trickle down through the generations into my life as well.
Chicago, like all other major cities, has stereotypes. Some are bad, and some we should revisit. I always wondered why I just understood his perspective, and now I get it. He just acts like what I've seen from old Chicagoans lol

You know you've got something special when 90% of the comments are referring to you, the creator and editor of the documentary, and not just discussing the content. The same thing can be said about specifically only editors who are very good at their job (something like editors who take streamers content and make YT videos from it). You don't see it often, but an example would be the editor for Tobias Fate's youtube channel. There's a ton of league slop content out there with editors, but his videos are mostly editor praise. That's a long winded way of saying, you're one of the greatest on the platform right now, and I appreciate your work so much.

I'd argue he cares deeply about the roles he plays, and he's appreciative of the love he's shown, but he's very clever about how he appears in public. He knows the audience love the cynic, and he's happy to play that part for them. He isn't looking to be recognised as the smiley, grateful guy. He doesn't want anything more than he has, and that's rare for a movie star.

    • @thomaslacornette1282
      @thomaslacornette1282 День тому +2

But same time very few peoples know him personally and he is a super star that became multi millionnaire; if you look his relation with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher they didn't see themselves that much after the end 80s/90s. I not say he is bad person or whatever but he might be less friendly than Indiana Jones. If you compare with Carrie Fisher personality, she was so clever, a sweet heart and really fun. Mark Hamill looks like a very friendly guy too. He is not looking to be recognized because he is the most known action movie superstar ever. I mean if you're mega rich and mega loved it's quite easy to be popular & chill lol. I think there's many things we don't know about him and that's totally ok! In the end we all humans and we are not that much different.

Harrison Ford is definitely someone I like referring to. He's much different from the rest of the celebrities, and he simply seeks the thrill of his roles. I'm not too excited for the new Captain America movie, however, him playing as my favorite version of the Hulk is simply exciting. Especially because he's played more of the lone ranger adventurer in a sense.

I subscribed after your Corridor Video a few years ago, not because I'm a big fan of this type of content, but because that video was so good despite having a such a young channel. I thought your best work was still to come and I wanted to see how things went. I agree with everyone complimenting you, and saying that this might be your best work so far. The way you're able to capture our attention and tell a clear story with an emotional impact, through primarily just clips and quotes and very little narration feels truly special. I haven't seen enough people compliment your choice of music either, it never feels out of place, forced, or like unnecessary. It really feels like every single aspect of this video is intentional. Truly makes me happy to see how incredible the content you are making has become.

What a GREAT watch! Thank you for making this!
I’ll always admire that Harrison Ford stayed so true to himself throughout his life despite the criticisms that he’s grumpy and seemingly doesn’t care.
In truth, he cares more than most and he shows it in his work. He is a tradesman, and understands that acting is, first and foremost, a trade and a craft.
Let’s say you have to choose between two carpenters to build you a house. The first is very outgoing and talkative, peppers you with politeness and big promises, but shows up late, leaves everything a mess each day, causes you to go way over-budget, and has every excuse for why those promises can’t be kept. But always with a smile!
The second is impersonal and even standoffish, grunts short answers, doesn’t show interest in your life, but shows up on time, stays within or under budget, and gives you the absolute most for your money. Then packs up and leaves you to admire their work without them in the way. And on to the next job.
Who would you say truly cared more about the customer and the work in the end?
An actor is hired to show up with their toolkit and use the tools they have gathered over the years. Prepping and doing research, as Ford says he does a lot of, is the highest respect a performer can show the cast, crew and audience.

Man, first off excellent as always. I know where you stopped made sense in the narrative, but i feel like you short changed his ever evolving sense of self an exploring new things but not at least briefly mentioning attempting comedy. He showed the clip of Shrinking, but really that is a huge departure (his words) from what he's played before. Frankly i think that's not true, so many of his roles have comedic elements that he pulls off flawlessly, but to try a different genre well into his 80s demonstrates his ability. Anyway, like i said where you ended in the native makes sense and it is beautifully done. Harrison Ford created my all time hero, and is the reason why i do what I do. I am an archaeologist, and having a hero on the big screen gave me the confidence as a history loving kid to pursue a strange profession, and 20 years later with my own company succeed in my own way.

What a beautiful way to go against the narrative that Harrison Ford is just a big old grump and just acts for the paycheck. He really loves acting and will keep doing it until he doesn’t. Which doesn’t look like its anytime soon since joining the MCU.

I never evee think about who my favorite actor is but I think this just answered that question and your editing style and storytelling is a factor in that. Every actor leaves a legacy. Harrison Ford IS legacy.

I’m only halfway through, but I can already say that this is one of the best video essays (if not the best) I’ve ever seen-and in a time where that “genre” of youtube has gotten incredibly stale, that’s saying something!

Really well done. I cried! You made me realize how much I appreciate his work. I saw Harrison at the Blade Runner 2049 premiere, which I was lucky enough to attend, and that gave me a similar feeling. Just a guy doing his best to give us another great story. I really like his Cary Grant movies, like Frantic. Just a normal guy caught up in craziness.

I think Harrison always did enjoy being Indiana Jones more than Han Solo. He doesn't seem to care for Star Wars really. I do agree that I enjoy him as Indy better than Han. The Indy movies are my favorite role he has played.

I know the 5th Indiana isnt favoured super high, but I really appreciate it as a proper send off for the actor in the role. Really seems to describe the guy and his career in a solid way imo.

Ha, you can say that again. I saw the pictures of him posing in the kilt for that Scotch campaign and he looks like he's trying to remember whether or not he's registered for his self-assessment. (Also? Great work as always, thank you so much.)

This honestly was so emotional and thats weird for me to say about a youtube video . I'm only 21 so I barely know any of his movies besides the big ones like starwars and raiders but this video really made me feel a connection to I guy I barely know .Harrison seems like a down to earth typa guy I could see myself in him kinda ,he just wants to chill and act in movies then go live on his bigass 800 acre farm .Great video Dodford I don't regret subbing you honestly make GOLD content.Loved the editing especially the ending of the video it all came together beautifully with the music I could literally feel my eyes watering .

harrison ford went to my high school. when i was a junior in 1998, my history teacher (who was also harrison's teacher) told the class a very curious story. of course we sked him about what it was like to teach harrison (and hillary rodham too)...but mr. carlson was more interested in relaying a story about harrison's younger brother. apparently his brother was a genius, and extremely talented, and athletic, but consequently lived a high-risk lifestyle at a young age. he died while he was a student at maine east. i don't recall his first name or the details of his death. mr. carlson kept his old desk cordoned off so no one could sit in it, and so that people would ask about it and give mr. carlson a reason to tell this story. i don't think harrison has ever mentioned having a brother or experiencing the trauma of losing a sibling at such a transitional time in his life. there is no record of him having a brother that i could find (at least online), so none of this is verified. but my teacher wouldn't make up a story like that. i believe there's a lot more to harrison's character than people realize.
