I recently tried to change spark plugs on my cx9 2017. Couple of things i learned and want to share my experience with you.
    1. You might be able to change 1st and 2nd plugs, but 3rd and 4th coil are the hardest part to put back. I tried for several hours and ended up cross threading the coil bolt. I would highly suggest please get it done by Mazda professionals.
    2. The mechanic disconnected the hose in order to put the coil.
    3. My car was at 98k kms and spark plugs looked pretty good. If I knew it i wouldnt have changed them cuz they look pretty good.
    4. I would prefer Mazda OEM spark plugs over NGK.
    5. Spark plugs are changed once in a while, i found it convenient to get it done by mazda professionals.
Just few learnings. I have always changed spark plugs of my older cars but Mazda cx9 spark plugs are not easy to change.

Ngk is the OEM of the Mazda plugs. They made them for Mazda. $14 bucks at Rock Auto vs $32 each.

Great video, of the 3 on UA-cam. Just remember, ngk design to be used without Anti-Seize. Also yes... It get messy 😂. One day can you update the spark plug with the boots replacement? $5 each, so I think it is worth it. My mazda is currently 110k and 160k. Love them so much

Thank you for the feedback and information! You are correct, the ngk spark plugs have the nickel coating to provided protection. At the next replacement I will replace the boots. This is our 4th Mazda and we always love and enjoy them.

@@thegaragehub that’s Awesome! Im looking into one but quite alarmed of the coolant issues on the 2016-2019 models. Then there’s one instance of a blown turbo

@@hypnos4545 you could say the same about many other vehicles. I like to look up all the negative things about a vehicle before buying, and I get distracted, not remembering the positive things that made me look at the vehicle in the first place. For me the exterior and interior made me want to buy the vehicle, could it possibly develop known issues down the road? Maybe, but it doesn't have a huge list of terrible things like other vehicles. Just my thoughts.

Nice video but I use the Mazda OEM oil filters because Mazda said the NA and the Turbo engines use different oil filters. The NA engines use the WPE and the Turbo use WPY. Something about the inside of the filters. Just to be safe for warranty purposes because aftermarket brands like Wix Purolator Fram Mobil 1 they all say same filter for both engines but there has to be a reason why Mazda said to use a different one for each.

I have done some reading on that.

@@thegaragehub I have a 2020 Miata and 2020 CX9. I got some OEM Mazda filters for the Miata (has NA engine). I had 2 free services with the CX9 when I bought it as a CPO and when I was there one time I chatted with the service manager about different things and he said Mazda doesn't make it easy as the CX9 uses a different oil filter for the Turbos. I didn't believe him so I researched it and he was right. Is there a difference between the two filters? IDK. But clearly Mazda could have just used one filter for all models like most manufacturers do but they did this for a reason so with the CX9 still under warranty I would hate to use the wrong filter and have it break down for some other reason and towed back to the dealer and they say ahh you used the wrong filter so warranty denied. That's all.

@@hondaguy6666 I'll agree with that, staying on the safe side for warranty purposes. Have you read about the issues with the head? Apparently there are a few people filing for a lawsuit.

@@thegaragehub Yes, my 2020's VIN is listed as one of those affected. I am the 2nd owner. Bought it as a CPO so I still have some powertrain warranty remaining so I am keeping my eyes on it especially the coolant levels.
