  • This is a project I've been wanting to do for some years as I've had these Hypex Ucd180st amp modules in the bottom of a box of bits for well over 10 years doing nothing. I needed a suitable power supply and the Hypex 400/180 was chosen for simplicity as in this build no soldering iron was power on along with the stereo connection kit.

Everything else was what I had on the shelves and or in my spares stock.

Thanks a lot for the video , I'm just about to build a 4 channels amp using the UDC400.

Good video, i built a 5 channel ucd 180 amp few months ago and like you i found it very easy to build. Hypex support are very helpful as well

I've just built a UcD400 stereo amp using the 400A400 SMPS and cable kit sounds OK.

Hey, I was planning on doing the same as you, 5 channel UCD 180 amp. I was wondering if you add some ressources about how to get started :) Like the number of PSU etc

Very nice build! This is something I would be interested in. Please follow up on the sound after puting some hours on the amp. Thank you!

The amp has changed quite a bit over the first few hours (8 hours constant use) and the harshness has gone. The case temperature is now at a constant 28C after this period. No issues. I think the operating temperature come into play here when cold there is a slight hardness. I must confirm these amps are the 180st version which I don't think Hypex sell anymore. I have very little knowledge on this type of amp but will probably try the modules with on board regs next. But overall I'm very please with the results for the money spent on this project.

Any new video's coming up? The ucd 400 or 700lz oem would also be cool to do as it needs some more soldering but is cheaper.
