- Friends - I'm humbled and honored to share with you my conversation with Stone Gossard where he teaches me how to play Pearl Jam's new tunes Scared of Fear and React, Respond on the guitar!

We choose the right band to love, that's really clear.
I think about this all the time, I’m so glad this is the band that has been such a big part of my life. Great music and even better people.
They were my favorite band when I was 16, and they’re my favorite band 20 years later. It’s not because of nostalgia. There just isn’t an another band that makes me feel the way they do, and there never will be.
He taught you to play when you were a kid by listening to his records. You loved it so much you turned into the guy teaching other kids, which got you the opportunity to teach him some songs. Then, it comes full circle and he's teaching you again, but this time live on Zoom.... then you share it with us and keep teaching us.
You're just a kid living your dream. Love this!
I am indeed a kid living his dream - always great to hear from you Tim :) :)
Well said !!
“Do you want me to text you in a few weeks?” Subtle yet awesome unintended flex. Great video. Upper Hand in open E? Can’t wait.
Imagine having Stone's number,.. damn
.... so... Silly question.. when are you ever gonna be guest guitarist during a live Pearl Jam show?
I used to work at a cigar shop in Soho, Manhattan. Stone walked in and only I knew who he was. I'm a PJ freak with a PJ tattoo, but somehow kept my cool. I offered to take him into the humidor and show him around. We were alone in there, and I asked him what he was looking for and he was buying for their tour manager. I found him something I thought he'd like and then said "by the way Stone, it's a huge honor to meet you." And he was so shocked that someone recognized him that when we left the humidor, he said to the friend he was with "see! I told you I was famous!" Lol such a great, chill, humble guy. He was generous to take a picture with me and was on his way. Super awesome. Eddie came in several times to buy vintage lighters but never on my watch, unfortunately
great story!!!!!
How awesome is Stone? These guys really are just another level of humanity. Thank you for this. Deeply appreciate it
I love how humble he is. Thanks for bringing Stone a little closer to our lives by sharing this with us. All day smile is back on my face, can’t wait for Upper Hand!!!
Ryan! I’m so blown away and giggling like a school girl watching this. What a freakin’ crazy dream come true! I know this isn’t your first convo with Stone, but totally cheering for you. Truly so much fun watching you two in your virtual jam. I’m seeing them at Bottlerock in a couple days. Can’t wait! Thanks for sharing your time hanging out with him. 😊
Hi Barbara!! so nice to digitally see you!! you'll never believe this but one of my students of days yore is the drummer for The Alive - playing some acts before PJ at BR! LMK if you'll be at Ohana (I think you have my number and I think I have yours!)
6:26 that moment when you asked him something and he was super focused on the guitar was so funny 😂😂
Dude this must be such an honor and so cool.
Oh, I forgot to say, when you started telling Stone about your favourite two notes in music, I immediately knew exactly where you were going, and yes, I agree completely! Faithful is one of my favourite-favourites to play and to listen to. You have excellent taste, neighbour :)
Love this! People often berate ‘social media’, but its ability to give us gems like this far outweighs the negative.
And how precious, that a band that once shunned interviews etc in order to survive, have got to a place where they can communicate to us so happily. 💪🏻😀
Absolutely incredible that Stone took the time to do this with you.
Thanks for sharing.
Look at Stone with a filter and all. Hes come so far from his Iphone 4 video
they grow up so fast.
@@RyanLendtLoL, love it!
I love Stone! His tunes are the ones I always learn cause they tend to be weird and super fun to play. Ryan, I'm not sure how you don't just nerd out the entire time.
Two great guys just jamming. Stone is so chill and so are you. like Peas and Carrots.
but which one is Jenny??
Haha that's wicked mate!!🤘😎
cheers Matt thanks for saying hey :)
Yes whole heartedly agree with you, we picked the right band!!!!!
Thanks for sharing Ryan, such a privilege.
Please do upper hand. That is my favorite one. That entire song sends Goosebumps up my nutsack. Damn I wouldn't have thought that there were so many alternative tunings on this album
I hope stone reads the comments and so I wanna thank him for teaching me to think outside of the proverbial Chord structure and to play X notes at the same time your guitar partner plays Y notes and when played in harmony it produces whatever wacky chord you desire or whatever chord fits nicely in the song or jam you happen to be playing!! Brilliant
Stone is the man, come on Ryan, next time deserves taking a plane and meeting him in person to make the interview/lesson! Something like what Beato does but which we actually can understand. You are better than Beato by the way, we actually learn to play songs with you.
The kindness 💙💙
Awesome stuff Ryan. Your lessons are great and make it real easy to pick up. How cool having Stone on as well.
Man...I LOVE this video. Thanks so much, Ryan. For all the great content!
Thanks Stone and Ryan! I can't wait to hear the songs live at the upcoming shows!
Holy shhhhhh …. So awesome Ryan! Congrats on your amazing channel. Love your content.
This is soooooo awesome Ryan and I think you played it pretty cool too. I think If I met one of my heroes I'd be a giggling nervous mess. Well played sir, well played
Wasn't his first time but yeah I'm pretty sure his heart was about to burst out of his chest like one of those aliens from the movie of the same name :p
This was so awesome! Thanks Ryan!
Thank you, Ryan. This was so much fun to watch. LOL'd when you were both tuning up and you said I'm gonna win. Glad you left in all of the miscommunication too. And Stone giving a lesson on Faithful too - just awesome! Can't wait til the next lesson.
This was awesome. Fun to see you in the student chair. And how cool of Stone to give you the time while touring and promoting the new album!?! All around good people (you included)
Ryan!! Que buen video! Tanto tiempo has dedicado a ayudarnos a entender las canciones y ahora con este invitado de lujo. Me alegro mucho por tu canal, por ti y por los que te vemos!...
Eres un gran alumno!!!
Felicitaciones!!!
Desde Chile te vemos!
This was super interesting but also nice to watch because of the way you interacted with Stone, the both of you laughing and chatting. I expecially enjoyed the insight on Faithful!
This was great on so many levels Ryan! You’re very good at stain natural and non-awkward with interviewing a musical hero. Stone seems very happy and it’s great that he makes himself accessible for stuff like this great for us fans!
I really loved this video. The more I see and listen to Stone, the more I love him. Cannot stop smiling while watching this. Thanks Ryan, you made my day. Please, keep on rockin ´
Greetings from Spain
Great stuff again, Sir! So fun to see you guys dissect the tunes 😎👍🏻
Absolutely love this Ryan! ❤🎸
So freaking cool. Thanks for sharing this!
Thank you Ryan for this video! Love it!
I love how engaged and in high spirits Stone is. Great musician and player. Always loved his parts and compositions.
Really cool video
Whenever an opportunity to just da-da-BOM, da-da-BOM-BOM-BOM presents itself, you must take it. Stone's version of "you know what they say, never say "no" to a good time", perhaps?
I feel like Stone is THE master of not overcomplicating things and 'just' playing what is right for the song. Emphasised by him primarily hitting the open E string so hard it almost becomes F a bunch of times on maybe the hardest rocking song on the new album. A wise man (you) once said that if music is a language then it must have jokes. That right there is musical comedy to me. Just great! Love him to bits.
A bunch of us here all taught ourselves how to play the guitar by listening to Stone's music. Now we've all had lessons from him. Actual lessons. Plural. From Stone Gossard. Thank you, Ryan. A dream come true for you, I'm sure, but for us as well.
Scared of Fear, wow! What an opener! What a song! And another track on the open-G busk set. WOOHOO! Might be my favorite off the album (Setting Sun is the best song ever written by anyone anywhere in the multiverse and so is out of consideration).
Thank you dearly, neighbour. Cannot wait for Upper Hand :)
I would argue that all those yesterdays is one big long joke filled short story. it's a honor to share this with you dear neighbor :) :)
Guitar lessons from a living legend. What a dream come true.
Congrats Ryan, well done!
I'm so happy that through your teaching of pearl jam that you have actually become friends with stone! Great video
So cool! Love this.
How cool of you and Stone!
Just saw PJ in Sacramento. How fing cool is this! I love your tutorials.
The ability to have rhythm parts as interesting (at times more interesting) than the lead, is what keeps me listening to Pearl Jam. By themselves these parts sound a bit awkward and maybe out of place. In the mix (and especially live) it all coalesces into sonic beauty.
I just aww them in Seattle, Stone was awesome he’s gotta be my favorite member! ❤
So cool. I love everything about this! Stone seems like such a nice human.
Honestly, I've never watched one of your videos. But I'm a huge PJ fan and this is one of the coolest interviews ever. Great job, I'm a new fan.
this was really amazingggggg. well done Ryan
thanks BA!
That was awesome!
Wowww omg thanks Ryan, you're the best
y'all done it again.
stone has to be the best rhythm player of a generation.
really flipping-fudgen-cool!
This is so cool. Watched them this last Monday in Sacramento and they were killing it
This is the best. Thank you.
Freaking awesome as usual !!!
Amazing get 😮 ! Well done man 😊
This is so cool well done guys :)
This is awesome! What a nice guy.
I f@&king love this! Ryan, I watched you so much during the pandemic and to see you with Stone (again) was just so amazing. I met Stone once at a Vanilla Ice show. Gentlemen then and now.
Love this!!!!
Got a new subscriber from this. This was absolutely wonderful. As a guitarist since 3rd grade and a huge PJ fan, I can’t tell you enough how cool this was. Stone seems like the greatest dude. I would love to sit and play PJ songs with him to see how accurate I am. Thank you for this.
Wow, this is so cool!
this is beyond excellent. thank you guys!. cheers Ryan! so good.
Ryan?!! Love it! Stone!
Outstanding Ryan 😂 Thank you Stone 😎✌️🎸
Stone’s a chill guy. Love how they figure out songs the same way I do; sit with a friend and go over it together.
That's amazing!!!!
Love Stone coming on the show, so cool✌️💙
Wow, this is so cool….a dream come true for sure!
Unreal…that was a real fun video🙂🎸

Such magic!
What a duo. So niceeee
Alex - long time pal!
Again this is awesome, and my favorite guitarist of all time.
mine too you have good taste!
Wholesome level is off the charts 😊
:)
Hey mate, been watching a lot of the clips from the PJ new tour, do you know what type of guitar Stone uses when they play Wont Tell live?
Epic vid to BTW. Cheers Steve, Adelaide - South Australia
So great to see our heros like this, seems a world away from the Stone that found sarcasm in the twenty movie lol, great video Ryan 👏👏 thanks to that Stone fella too i'm sure he'll go far 👍
this is amazing.
I went off playing guitar when my son was 6 months- he wouldn't sleep and money was tight...then sold my only remaining guitar ! One fateful night I watched BBC arts show called No Nirvana ? Nevermind.....And there was Stone Gossard playing the intro to Alive! I'd heard of Pearl Jam but not heard them ! Within a month I bought another guitar!! So, Stone Gossard...I LOVE YOU mate!
I love Happy Stone. He looks like he's having a blast.
so awesome and so cool
How did you get Stone on the show!??! 😄 Good work!
That's soooo cooool 🤩
Thanks for doing this. You have helped me a lot of times. Very interesting conversation as well. Keep up the awesomeness.
This one just makes me smile dooood
AMAZING ❤
This is the greatest channel of all-time!
A guitar lesson from the man, the myth, the Legend Stone Gossard. That's Amazing. Must've been surreal to talk with him
genial, no podia sacarla, ahora entiendo.
Stone is a treasure!!
That's so awesome Ryan 😭😭
Thank you Ryan | Thank you Stone
Next time we teach Stone how to use open mic 🥰🥰🥰🥰
This is so cool
well this is just damn great!! (unrelated a bit, but related b/c Stone humour - recently watched some new Curb episodes and the line "never shall the twains shall meet" or whatever was uttered and i'm 99% sure Stone said that on Howard b/c of that ep b/c, lightbulb, of course Stone must watche and loves Curb and that humour. So i really suggest you talk about that next time as well :)
Congrats bathroom buddy. Sooo fun.
Too cool!
Open G hell fucking yes. Probably my favorite tuning to play in outside of the standard The Honky Tonk Woman Tumbling Dice tuning ala Keef
Scared of fear is really what allow me to give this album a chance. The first three singles honestly did not hit me that hard. But now after hearing them all in the context of the entire album they make sense and are incredible. But it was those opening chords of scared of fear that are so incredible, and when I heard then I was like wait a fucking second, my favorite band might be back
