As a survivor of rectal cancer, I was a healthy vegan prior to diagnosis, I am here to debunk the lack of fiber in the diet argument. There is way more to it than just diet. When you start reading possible causes online, I was in none of the predictable categories. Any changes in stool, I’d highly recommend getting colonoscopy!

      Oy.
I single anecdote is not meaningful plus nobody claims that eating plants keeps people from getting any diseases. Diet & lifestyle is 85% of it and genetics are 15% of it. Sometimes doing everything perfect, even from birth, you can still lose. Just like how some people can do everything wrong for decades and still win a long life....George Burns smoked cigars and drank hard alcohol for decade after decade after decade and yet was never fat, was getting around quite well into his mid 90's and lived to be 100.
You didn't debunk the lack of fiber argument at all. A lack of fiber increase odds of various diseases but isn't a promise that you will or won't get some disease.

I have had one colonoscopy and about to have a second. People always complain about the prep… drinking the stuff and cleaning out your colon…while this is no fun, afterwards I felt the best I had in decades! So I am not dreading my next one. My body just felt so light and healthy. So maybe that’s why people do colon cleanses on their own, it’s amazing.

My approach is to achieve the goal of the prep: get the solids out of the colon. So I drink the prep until the water in the bowl is clear. You'll drink less prep.

    • @5Gburn

I've heard nightmare stories of people gorging the day or two days before prep. I've designed a specific plan of eating less food (and less fiber) each succesive day starting 5 days before (tomorrow is day 1). The day before up until prep will be broth, ginger ale, etc. Prep is the prep drink mixed in lemonade (the nurse suggested that). I anticipate this to be a very easy prep.

When I'm in my own home, I usually have really great, normal, well-formed poos, but whenever I visit my dad, my anxiety levels really starts to rise. @@KrikitYTYou have to take a prep laxative and drink a bunch of fluid...which COMPLETELY cleans you out, so the doctor can see every surface inside you during the colonoscopy. The home prep is not fun because you are uncomfortably full of fluid and have to stay near the toilet until it's all consumed...and expelled. Thankfully, you typically only have to have a colonoscopy every 5 years.

Since 2017 I have been using Trulance (plecanitide) and with one pill in the morning I can completely empty my bowels and be ready to take on the day. This medication still works after 7 years!

Doesn't ideopathic just mean that they don't know what's wrong with you? In other words they gave up but gave you a pseudo-diagnosis to get rid of you. Did they check your electrolytes? Things like sodium and calcium are necessary for muscle contraction. Also a vitamin b1 deficiency can cause gastroparesis.

Almost every patient can benefit from a GI-MAP gut health assessment. Some patients are looking to achieve optimal health, while other patients have been chronically ill and frustrated without a diagnosis for years.
Some conditions that warrant testing are:
    Autoimmune diseases
    IBS/IBD

Started when I was 14, a weird pressure or irritation/inflammation in my lower left quadrant (only one spot) and so I told my parents because it freaked me out and they just kept telling me “you’re a hypochondriac” “you’ll be fine” so here I am at 18, still have this problem. And the past couple months I’ve had acne just randomly appear (literally never had acne even during puberty) so it’s kinda weird. My poop changes from diarrhea to constipation randomly, then it can switch to super soft, it’s random. Maybe it’s just my diet? Maybe it’s something I should be really concerned about? I definitely need to get checked out. But since my parents didn’t take me when I wanted them to I feel like it’s too late and I’m scared of hearing bad news like it’s cancer

Unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone, I ate like this for more than two decades and ended up having very bad conditions for my colon.
The only way to correct this was to stop eating plants, and not consuming any fiber, thanks to that now my gastrointestinal problems have improved and I can now defecate like a 4 on the Bristol scale.
A family member also in the same situation, consumed adequate fiber and ate his plants for a healthy life, now has colorectal cancer.

The USA allows so many unhealthy things in our foods that other countries ban. This is something that needs to be changed and soon.

@@raconteur5195Maybe they might b gonna contemplate having a"shit sandwich!" I woulda expected to see the doctor handling this 60% bacteria laden stuff with protective gloves rather than bare hands! They really go " hands- on" with their work doncha think! Even the honey wagon operator doing cistern house calls to remove human waste from country tanks wears gloves to avoid direct contact, cuz that gets nasty! As a side note: You'd b surprised how many guys( grown adults) go to the rest room after wiping their butt hole ,exit the toilet without washing their hands! Then these same ppl handle the utensils for self-serving buffets. push slot machine buttons n screens! Lol! Even a grade 1 student knows better, but what can u do with ppl's behavior!

hard snakelike black poop smelt strongly like ammonia. two days in a row couple of years ago. I fasted and slept for another couple of days and am much better. thx for the explain art how the strong smell indicates a blood bleed. I am 70 no meds whole foods and finally added low carbs 5 years ago and I am good now . but that was scary

I'm a regular bristol 5 and thought it was a bad thing. Had a colonoscopy and everything is fine. The Gastrointerologist never had this discussion with me but yes, I eat tons of fruit and veg and whole grain. I originally thought it was because of the coffee I drink in the morning. Because if I don't drink coffee, I'm a 4.5 or even 4.

I do too, and I miss the healthy solid poops of my youth. In fact, on the very rare occasions when I do, I always feel better. I'm not sure that 5 doesn't mean your gut is a bit irritated. Probiotics are supposed to help, but they need to be taken for months... and I keep forgetting.

In Austria I noticed there is a little shelf in the loos which make examination so much easier for both patient and doctor. How very sensible.

Jokes aside, it took me a long, long time to realize that “our” kind of toilets are not that common globally. Many toilets overseas are just smell-avoiding deep diving pools for what one ate before, some examination often is impossible. Unfortunately nowadays many new built houses here have these unnecessary elegance in toilets, too.

I went visited Ukraine and saw the poo shelf there as well. I thought it was a soviet thing. It’s ridiculous - you have to clean it after every use or it leaves a big brown shmear and stinks up the bathroom. Gross. Give me a nice big American toilet with a pool of water you can swim in

@@yeboscrebo4451. Thank you for this comment. I now understand the OP meant a ‘shelf’ inside the toilet bowl, lol! All I could think of at first was a shelf/ niche in the wall that many US doctors offices have in their restrooms which have a little door that the staff can open to retrieve one’s urine sample. The picture in my head has now been corrected 😂

One thing I found very interesting for me was, when I cut out sugar (not carbs, but actual sugar), my poop had no bad odor. It was odorless.
Still don’t know why that was

Same here. I find if I eat sugar I can smell the sour rot that is going on. Without sugar in my system, there's no odor, transit time is quick and the stool is formed nicely.

I spent most of my life irregular, not having any idea until 10 years ago that I'm allergic to milk protein, and 7 years ago that I'm allergic to gluten. I'm very disciplined and eat well, so I got regular and healthy quickly. A couple of weeks ago, I tried making sourdough, and had a slice every morning with eggs. It didn't make me feel gross or give me a headache or body aches, so I kept eating it. About a week ago, I noticed I was seriously bloated and backed up, and I cut out the bread immediately. I don't know how I lived like this for so long. We eat junk as kids and think being unhealthy, bound up and in pain is normal. Thank you for this discussion.

Try growing a sourdough starter and keep it living as it will improve. Also try letting your dough ferment longer as it will be easier to digest and taste better. A 3-4 day cold rise pizza dough is amazing too.
