I have listened to this band for 37 years when I was only 10 years old.And as I grew up I found that Alex was a man with great understanding of human emotion. He tapped into that and showed a unique usage of musical instuments.Lots of his songs have orchastra or bagpipes!Zal shines on guitar. What an awsome band you will not find such imagination and talent like SAHB.

I just picked up the Live at BBC recording, and it is unbelievable. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band is the greatest band of all time, in any genre. Listen to the BBC recording, and your face will be melted.

SAHB is the best live band I have ever seen. Saw them perform in Newcastle in 1972 & no band since then has been able to match their energy or performance levels. Great band. Alex Harvey sadly missed.

I saw them 5 limes in total (twice after Alex) and they are undoubtedly THE BEST live band I ever saw. Grinding rock combined with outlandish theatre and great story telling. Love it love it love it .🤪

WOW! I just found this vid! Me and brother watched this very vid on “In Concert”, on that night. I have wanted to see it again for 44 years. That was the first time that I had even heard of SAHB! I was SOOO blown away. A month later I went in the Navy and somewhere in 1976, I went to the Navy base store on the island of Guam and came across the SAHB live album. It was tremendously awesome. I still have it and play it. I now have the double CD that has the Penthouse Tapes & Live CDs and love to crank it up. Thank you, Alex & band for your musical & video gift. Love you guys!

I’ve seen hundreds of bands since the early 70s, including many big names, but none came close to the brilliant SAHB for sheer entertainment value. Every time I went to one of their gigs it was an occasion. Probably the most underrated band of all time.

And I had to discover the SAHB in 74 in Australia, after cumming oot frae Scotland aaarrrgh! THE best band I never saw live :(
They were the consumate performers... you can see the influence they had on other 'lesser' bands from that time on... I would love to have seen their version of 'School's Out' for example, yes Alice Cooper, own up ;), don't tell us you didn't 'emulate' Alex (a wee bit :).
UA-cam is allowing Alex and the band the recognition they so deserve.

SAHB are one of the Greatest underachievers of British Rock - along with many other bands of the era that never made real sight in the States. Kiss sourced, as did many others from this band. Checkout 'Budgie' of the same Time, also Dr Feelgood (She does it Right). Wilko Johnson is a phenomenal guitarist, note his 'Chop' style - then for the 80's try 'The Sound' - Silent Air. All excellent unknowns of UK Rock - Pink Fairies, are another very important unknown - then there's Rory Gallagher!

SAHB where unique and totally brilliant and there's been nothing to touch them, Kiss didnt even come close? These guys where happening while they where still in short pants. They definately influenced The band I was in in the 80's(Experimental Gardens). Alex wrote "Shout" that was covered by Lulu? He knew the game and was a master of the theatrical. RIP Alex Harvey. Far too good to be among the 80's pop crap?

borrowed heavily from Zal; riffs and solos!

I was at this gig on Thurs 6th June 74. Free Capital Radio gigs at The Rainbow. Knew it was being filmed but didn't really know for what.Same bill that night were Roxy Music; Leo Sayer & Humble Pie. Shame there's not more of this. I was so taken by SAHB I went the following night to their own gig at The Rainbow Fri 7th June 74. I know the dates as I still have the ticket stubs. I am so pleased to see this as there is so little SAHB film out there and this was my first time. Classic! Thank you.

CASB ATW - I'm guessing this was shot on 16mm film. A standard roll size for 16mm was 10 minutes. This clip is just under 10 minutes, so maybe that was the budgeted allotment for the four or so cameras they had rolling?

It was an "In Concert" filming at the Santa Monica Civic.

The closing act?? Rory Gallagher....Damn it.

We were there to see roxy music..... Capital radio freebie....Hated Leo sayer because his management had sacked a friend... Recording had to be stopped because of the amount of pennies we threw during one man band, Tommy vance not amused...Humble pie loudest ever heard (there) roxy not very good went on to watch sahb every time theycannabis, played London (played kazoos on Delilah Hammersmith odeon) best live band ever..

There is so little of SAHB on film it is criminal... and sadly ironic for such a visual band :-(
I think they were just a bit too early, in those days video cameras were still very big and expensive bits of pro equipment, not much chance of videoing them on your mobile ;-)

you really had to see them to appreciate how 'sensational' they really were live Saw them for the 1st time in 73 in our local assembly rooms supporting The Average White Band in front of about 80 people and thought 'wow..this lot are different' ( i was only 14) then a further 5 times including Reading Festival where they stole the show Should have been HUGE but their albums never really showed how good they were..even the live ones..you really did have to SEE them to experience the real SAHB!
